NYT Connections May 22 Answers

Today’s NYT Connections, while not difficult, did take me some time to solve. I began by solving the Yellow category, and while I was unfamiliar with this exact song, I did have the sense to put these body parts together.

The Green category came next, and this was a breeze as I’m an autohead myself. The Blue category, on the other hand, was where most of my time went. However, some back-and-forth Googling helped me out here, too.

With only four words, I connected them all and got the Purple category along with the NYT Connections puzzle for May 22.

NYT Strands Hints, Spangram, and Answers for May 22, 2024

The Strands today was pretty boring, and I didn’t have a fun time solving. After a while, it got rather annoying, and I cursed the NYT Editors for coming up with something so challengingly ordinary. Well, if you’re stuck at the game too, take a look at the May 22 NYT Strands’ hints and answers that I’ve listed down below!

What is the Theme for Today’s NYT Strands?

As revealed by the New York Times, the theme for today’s Strands is “Home grown”. And, just like me, you’re probably thinking about vegetables and fruits. We shall soon see if that thought is right.

Spangram Hint for Today’s Strands

Spoiler Warning #1

Even though we try our best to be subtle, the hints below might partially spoil the experience. You’ve been warned.

Every Strands game has that one Spangram that you need to decipher and today’s was no exception. The hint for today’s Spangram is – “Aromatic plants”.

Theme Words Hints for Today’s Strands

If you have figured out the Spangram from the above hint, figuring out the theme words will be easy. However, I don’t want to ruin it for you. Instead, here are three theme word hints that may help you:

  • Hint #1: A plant that rhymes with time
  • Hint #2: A ‘wise’ plant

Spoiler Warning #2

The next sections reveal the answers for today’s NYT Strands. So, I’d recommend not scrolling further if you are still solving the puzzle. However, if you are stuck, I suggest scrolling a wee bit to see the Spangram answer.

Spangram Answer for NYT Strands on May 22

The Spangram for today’s NYT Strands puzzle is HERBGARDEN, and it runs from left to right in the letters grid.

Apart from the Spangram, you need to find 6 theme words in today’s puzzle. However, if you are having a tough time getting through the Strands, check out some tips and tricks in my guide on how to play NYT Strands.

Anyway, with that being said, let’s go to the next section. However, proceed only if you are ready to check out the theme words.

List of Theme Words for NYT Strands on May 22

If you have scrolled this far, you are probably ready to see the answers. So, let’s take a look at today’s theme words in Strands:

  • SAGE
  • BASIL
  • PARSLEY
  • CORIANDER
  • ROSEMARY
  • THYME

The Strands today had me looking for vegetables, fruits, and plants in the grids that can be home grown. While I was almost there, I wasn’t specifically thinking about herbs. So, I had to use up a hint after around 15 minutes of looking.

That gave me SAGE, and I still wasn’t sure what it was all about. However, after that, I somehow came across BASIL at the bottom right and grasped the theme there and then. I instantly found PARSLEY in the leftmost column and CORIANDER right on top of it. In the bottommost grids, there was ROSEMARY and diagonal to it, THYME.

Finally, that led me to find HERBGARDEN as the Spangram for the day. Well, I did have to use that one hint, but not too bad, given they’re herbs.

What about you? Did you solve the Strands today easily or did you have to use up hints like me? Do cry your heart out in the comments down below!

Did Carl Pei Just Leak Nothing Phone (3) with an Action Button?

Nothing Phone (2a) launch was a success, thanks to the phone delivering a good value for its price and Carl Pei’s Bhai marketing campaign. But now, Nothing fans and Android enthusiasts are eyeing the launch of their next flagship device, the Nothing Phone (3). Till now we haven’t seen any leaks of the device but looks like Carl Pei has secretly teased the design and a big feature of the next Nothing Phone.

Carl Pei recently shared an X post revealing a redesigned quick settings panel for Nothing OS 3. We covered the new quick settings panel in a separate story, however, many users, including me, initially overlooked the phone’s frame. We initially assumed it was the Nothing Phone 2, but closer inspection revealed a brand-new button on the right side of the frame; hinting that this may be our first official tease of the Nothing Phone 3.

What is this New Button on this Nothing Phone?

From the images, we can see that this button is located right under the power button and is smaller in size compared to the other buttons. Its placement is a tad too high, which rules out the possibility of it being a dedicated camera shutter button. So, what could it be then? Let’s discuss!

My mind went straight to a customizable key similar to the iPhone 15 Action button. This would allow users to set a custom action to the button like turning on the torch, taking a screenshot, or turning on DND. This would sit right with Nothing’s emphasis on offering customizable features throughout their Nothing OS.

It could also very well be a dedicated AI button to trigger ChatGPT Voice. We recently saw Nothing introduce a feature to launch ChatGPT using their Ear and Ear (a) TWS. Not to forget, they also added widgets and shortcuts to make the AI chatbot more accessible throughout their OS. So, introducing a dedicated button wouldn’t be too far-fetched.

My last theory leads to it being Nothing’s alternative to OnePlus’s alert slider. It was under Carl’s reign that OnePlus introduced the alert slider so he could try to mimic the feature for his own company. What possibly adds weight to this theory is the horizontal slider in the new quick settings panel with the “Vibrate” option in the middle similar to how it would be in a three-step alert slider.

Carl, Please Don’t Play with My Feelings!

It is also entirely possible that this is some sort of a ploy by Carl Pei to get the fans talking about the Nothing Phone 3 and get the hype training chugging. The phone’s launch is still a few months away so this could be a great way to tease an upcoming feature and kickstart a conversation around their device.

We all know Pei is a marketing genius and knows how to drum up hype around his products. The phone in the picture has a metal frame leading us to believe that it could be the Phone 3, but again, it is all speculation as of now.

What do you think this new button could be? Do you believe it is the Nothing Phone 3? Let us know in the comments down below.

Microsoft Teams is Getting Slack-like Custom Emojis Soon

While Microsoft Teams offers more features with its free version, it’s not exactly the most intuitive messaging platform out there. For collaboration, many organizations prefer Slack to Teams. This is thanks to its integration versatility, upbeat user interface, and informal messaging elements like custom emojis. Well, it looks like Teams is taking a step forward to create a more expressive space with custom emojis feature.

Microsoft made the announcement at the Windows Build Developer Conference on May 21, 2024. Moreover, the feature is scheduled to drop in June of this year via the Microsoft Teams public preview. We can expect public availability in July 2024.

For custom emojis to work, IT admins of a Teams domain will have control over which custom emojis appear or who can use them. For example, admins can give the custom emoji access to the users they want to limit it to. They can also choose to keep the feature turned off entirely on their domain.

As for how the feature will work on Teams, it’s no rocket science. Just like on Slack, you can head over to a chat or group > Emoji icon, and add a custom emoji.

While this is a pretty appreciable step by Microsoft for its Teams, they’re probably a tad too late to the party. Custom emojis have been present on Slack and Discord for years now. If you ask me, the Beebom team can’t go a day without making GIFs out of each other’s embarrassing moments and sharing them on Slack groups.

Besides, it also makes conversations a lot more fun and spontaneous, thereby keeping the spirit of it all alive. Here’s a look at how the Beebom team uses custom emojis and reactions on Slack:

Yes, it may appear a tad too informal to some, but the way teams work has changed over the years, in my opinion. Gone are the days of conventional emails to keep each other in the loop. Quick decisions and team achievement celebrations are better with platforms like Slack. With custom emojis, I sure do hope that Microsoft Teams are used for more than just stress-inducing meetings.

Qualcomm Launches Snapdragon Dev Kit for Windows with X Elite Chip

Microsoft took the first step toward Windows on ARM by launching Copilot Plus PCs during the Surface event yesterday. Qualcomm has launched its own Snapdragon Dev Kit with the top-of-the-line X Elite processor at the Microsoft Build event. Here’s everything you need to know.

Qualcomm says the Snapdragon Dev Kit’s processor is a special edition X Elite chip. It will have a 12-core 3.8GHz Oryon CPU and a Dual Core Boost up to 4.3 GHz. The kit will run Windows 11 on a 32GB LPDDR5X RAM coupled with a 512GB Fast NVMe Storage. The Qualcomm Hexagon NPU with up to 45 TOPS should help developers leverage AI and build powerful AI apps.

As for the I/O, there are 3 x USB-C, 2 x USB-A, 1 x Ethernet, and 1 x 3.5mm headphone jack. Connectivity-wise, the kit comes with Qualcomm’s FastConnect 7800 Mobile Connectivity System with support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. Valorant Replay System is Coming But “It Is Nowhere Near Launch”

A replay system in Valorant has been a long-requested feature by all players of the beloved tactical shooter from Riot. However, the question of when it will arrive has been either ignored or forgotten by the developer. However, it seems that the wait is about to be over as Riot shared details about the Valorant Replay System in a new Dev Updates video.

In the recent video, Marcus Reid, Valorant Tech Lead starts by saying,“…we have been working on replays.” He further mentions the prototype of the free cam view in Replay. In the view, we can notice a clear view of the game while having multiple buttons to navigate the video; it looks similar to Overwatch.

When is the Replay System Coming to Valorant?

After giving us a sneak peek, Marcus emphasizes the word “prototype” by saying, “This is nowhere near launch.” Furthermore, he clears our doubts on why replay is taking so long to implement in the game. Valorant was made from scratch which made all the operations live. Thus, whenever a player does something, the server receives it and sends it back to another player.

However, the Replay system is different as the video needs to stay on the server as players might wanna pause, rewind, or more to check particular plays, etc. According to Marcus, these were not planned beforehand for Valorant and that is one of the main reasons why the Replay system took a lot of time to even reach a prototype level.

He also shares the defects that happen during replay compared to live gameplay. In the video segment, we can notice a different behavior in clocks, doors, and other map elements. Overall, it seems the Replay system release date is nowhere near as of now.

Apart from that, we also got to know more about hero balance through buffs and nerfs where the duelist role will be prioritized over other agents. Well, just seeing Replay System being worked on checks off one feature on my Valorant wishlist. Are you excited about the Replay system coming soon? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Microsoft Releases a Small Phi-3 Vision Multimodal Model

Earlier in April, Microsoft released its first AI model under the open-source Phi-3 family: Phi-3 Mini. And now, after almost a month, the Redmond giant has released a small multimodal model called Phi-3 Vision. At the Build 2024, Microsoft also unveiled two more Phi-3 family models including Phi-3 Small (7B) and Phi-3 Medium (14B). All of these models are open-source under the MIT license.

As for the Phi-3 Vision model, it’s trained on 4.2 billion parameters. It means that the model is fairly lightweight. This is the first time a mega-corporation like Microsoft has open-sourced a multimodal model. It has a context length of 128K and you can feed images as well. Google did release the PaliGemma model, but it’s not meant for conversational use.

Apart from that, Microsoft says that the Phi-3 Vision model was trained on publicly available, high-quality educational and code data. Microsoft has also generated synthetic data for math, reasoning, general knowledge, charts, tables, diagrams, and slides.

Despite its small size, the Phi-3 Vision model performs better than Claude 3 Haiku, LlaVa, and Gemini 1.0 Pro on many multimodal benchmarks. It even comes pretty close to OpenAI’s GPT-4V model. Microsoft says that developers can use the Phi-3 Vision model for OCR, chart and table understanding, general image understanding, and more.

If you want to check out the Phi-3 Vision model, head over to Azure AI Studio (visit).
