Best Facebook Alternatives You Should be Using

That ends our article on the best Facebook alternatives that you can use the replace the social media giant. I hope you find the perfect alternative for you. If we missed anything, mention it in the comments below along with your favorite replacement Facebook apps.

  1. I have managed to have the same fb page since I started fb. They gave me a 27 day restriction bc I commented on a post that fb posted. I don’t wanna change platforms and delete fb. I just want it all to work the right way. I don’t think it’s to much to ask. But last night they blocked me from even getting in my acct by saying they needed proof it was me. I did everything they ask me to 7 times. So I got mad as heck and made another page. Please fb get your stuff together. It’s more stressful than it is fun. Thank you

  2. The biggest issues are privacy and censorship. Big Tech deciding what information you have access to and profiting from your personal information. There are no real alternatives until these issues are addressed. Not for profit, no ads or selling or trading of personal information, free speech without censorship.

  3. I recently got a 29 day block from Facebook for saying the word monkey . They said it was bulling for some reason I still don’t understand how that is bulling . They won’t even explain it to me . This was in a social group in Australia and yet they only banned me for six days from viewing their ads at the same time . I can watch their ads but not partishapate in my social group .

  4. I’m having some real issues. I have checked out almost all of the Facebook alternative networks. Most are Twitter replicas for people with smartphones. I’m old school and use a Desktop or my laptop computer(s) to connect to social media. so far Facebook has the SUPERIOR Setup for Groups, Pages, but most important Administrative tools for managing those pages or groups. My main issue with the alternatives I have tried only max out at 777 on GETTR, all of the others are between 200 and 400 only. Facebook allows up to 8000 Characters per post. I have several groups I have put many untold hours into running them, but the constant Faq Checks (Fake Check is what I call them) are causing a lot of issues. NO other social media networks so far has this ability, so I’m FORCED to stay with Facebook. also on many of the other alternatives it is hard to follow any one Thread or group of posts, drives me nuts. so MY Question does anyone actually exist that has what I need for my pages &/or groups I host or administer? They have to be able to post videos, photos, acrobate files (pdf) to the group and a files area/archives. Please help! Security is a Must/privacy as well.

  5. I am creating an alternative social media platform for Dutch people. Its called Dutch underground network engine and its online. Not sure if I can share it here.. Do feel it deserves a place here and its not out of context so without further adue heres my new site DUNE.wtf

  6. Over the past two years & some I was jailed something like six time by FaceBook. Latest two were for using the term “gringo” in reference to my own befuddled state. Seems “gringo” is a hate speech word to FaceBook. Not to me or my Spanish &Portuguese speaking friends. I’ve been jailed for being an atheist, for speaking Norwegian, for posting an antifascist meme with Hitler’s face on it, a meme that later showed up on a friend’s page no problem. I figure there’s a bunch of people at FB who look for folks like me. Folks who’ve been Fair Game so long that the Crutch of $cientology has book on ‘em. So I’m out to find an alternative & leave Zuckerboy & his attack algorithms.
. . .If only I could get ‘em to kill my account outright.

    1. I have not had those problems on FB but I do have problems getting others feedback on FB. Seems that the face-verse is a farce-verse as far as politically intense replies.
My political input is just ignored.
Sad the FB viewers are just socialites and have near zero interests in our world at large. No wonder wars (by the US) rage as none seem to give a crap except for silliness and self adoration.
Sadly to argue world politics and war is beyond the depth of the FB 99%!
I am seriously tired of bland yapping and the offensiveness of ignoring the crimes of war that continue to engulf our poor world.

      1. Yes the world is failing but whining about It on Facebook and bitchin politics constantly isn’t gonna change or better the world til people open their eyes, wake up & actually do something about it. Facts.

      2. Perhaps, it’s your need to “argue” rather than discuss or debate the issues. Starting with calling everyone on FB “socialites with zero interest.” Being open minded and accepting of other points of views would probably go a long way, as well.

  7. I am not entirely happy with Facebook, especially since one of my favourite contributors (The Atheist Conservative) has apparently been banned. Being an infidel and a libertarian, I am looking for an unbiased alternative. Any suggestions would be welcome.

    1. I think we would often disagree but I would love an alternative the FB where the masses do not just ignore our world at large and the continuous wars by the USA.

  8. I just checked out Gab. Didn’t created an account because 99% of the front page looks like a bunch of rightwing garbage to me.
Not a bit interested in that or I’d do to Parlour.

    1. Then you need to stay on FaceBook and Twitter. Left wing garbage and controllers of thought and speech.

      1. The growing majority are opting no No Wing. You have the freedom to choose what works best for you.

  9. I was banned from Facebook because the Facebook Team viewed my profile page linked to my YouTube page “a form of self-promotion” and that they believed that I was trying to make money from my link. The point was for people to get a chance to view my musical compositions for listening, not profit. I am on MeWe now and it is great!

  10. We the People MUST remove our accounts from Facebook to show them we do not need them or want them to show them we are in control! I left on leave Facebook day yes that is a thing I have been gone from there about 3 or 4 years now just do your research for the best alternative and backup all your stuff before you give Facebook the boot or YouTube or Twitter lets show them who is really in charge!

    1. I want to have opportunity to sell staff , I used FB Marketplace – any alternative to it ???

      1. Gab has a Marketplace planned. It’s not up and running yet, but it is supposed to be in the near future.

        1. Love Gab!! It’s perfect when you want to get away from Facebook and all it’s BS censorship!

  11. The biggest problem for them all is popularity.
Facebook and Youtube are the best two examples, they both worked well and people liked them, then they got popular and profitable. So, someone decides to make them an offer they can’t refuse and next thing the new owners decide they don’t like it the way it is and start imposing new terms and conditions. Like the way Google wants you to sign in, but not using your old email password but a new one which they won’t accept and virtually nothing I do will get them to accept any password I even if it appears they did because the next time I try to sign in there is a problem with my password, and it just repeats.
These companies see a good deal then play with it to try to get more money which leads to greed, which leads to people being disgruntled and choosing other formats to use.
You see it with entrapeneurs, they work at a new product ( I know, I have done it, still working on it after 7 years) get it to market via Kickstarter. Now, when I design a product I think, “what would I pay” and I try to base my design on that principal. What I have seen with a lot of Kickstarter projects is, lets get our money back on this product I can get produced cheaply in Asia.
Whatever it is, you don’t work on the get rich quick principal, you work on the slowly, cheaply, high turnover principal where more people can afford it, so, more people buy it.

  12. I wish MySpace would come back. It was my favorite. I am going to delete toxic Facebook as soon as I can find something comparable. I am in groups, Chihuahua & Pacific North West, and they are not on these other sites like MeWe.
So…. I will miss my groups. But I have grown to hate Facebook!!! Hope that they get sued!!!

    1. MySpace is still around, just need to make moves to promote it in your groups, basically use Facebook to promote MySpace.

    2. mySpace is so different than what it used to be. Now it’s some sort of stereo deck and it’s not at all easy to find out what’s going on with your friends! Go and try Gab. It’s seriously the best place around…..!!

      1. I just checked out Gab. Didn’t created an account because 99% of the front page looks like a bunch of rightwing garbage to me.
Not a bit interested in that or I’d do to Parlour.

  13. Ijoined Vero and MeWee but what do you think of mewee? You have only 8gb for free for you pics and videos then you have to pay,is it enough space?

  14. Bunch of garbage! These platforms will just as quickly delete you from their platforms as FB or Twitter, WordPress would.

  15. thanks for all the facebook like websites i signed up for them. facebook locked my account after it got hacked and i gave them my photo and number. im done with facebook

  16. What do you recommend for someone who just wants to stay in touch with friends and family, see pictures of their cute kids, but not get any news feeds or adds?

    1. That is what I want to know, someone needs to create something I am beginning to think that is exactly like FB, but not FB. I am ok with the adds, I am just not ok with FB.

      1. What about selfcial.com? It is a new social networking website, was created 2 months ago and tries to make internet more safe. No political correctness, no data spying. And you are telling it what to change.

    2. I’ve tried a bunch of the alternative social media platforms over the last several months. Here is my personal opinion:

MeWe and WeGo are more for activists verses personal pages.

Parler: waiting for Parler to come back online. It was the BEST alternative to Twitter.

Rumble: best setup to become a major competitor to YouTube. Ideal for just about any use: personal, business, news, viral videos, video blogs, etc.

StreetLoc: StreetLoc’s IT team has built the best platform infrastructure to truly compete against Facebook. Meant to be a more tight-knit community, StreetLoc is where you and your family and friends can come together to support each other and your community; and small / independent businesses can advertise AND do business through the platform AT NO COST. They offer groups, news feeds, private chats, messaging, videos, discussions, events, photo libraries, business pages, tagging, content permissions, privacy settings, classified ads, and even a few extras, like stores for businesses and press offices for news organizations. Their Android app has already launched and their iOS app is coming soon.

Each of these options respect your privacy and do not data mine.

And as has been mentioned several times in other comments, the biggest issue is convincing enough people to sign up for alternatives. I am in disbelief how many people complain about what the BigTech social media companies are doing, yet you give them an option and they never even check it out. It’s free people. Give it a try. If a particular platform isn’t what you’re looking for, delete your account and try another one.

    1. I have checked out most of them. None of them, not GAB, MeWe, Signal, Clouthub and others, none of them can compare to Parler. Parler is the absolute best and extremely user friendly compared to the rest. You don’t have to give out your personal information unless you want to “subscribe” but you can join and use the entire site for free without giving personal information and you don’t have to join “groups” or start a group to chat with others of the same interest. You also don’t have to give them your “Contacts.” Parler is the BEST, cannot wait until they are back up online.

  17. simple answer to password problem. 1/ choose a book.
2/ select the first (last) letter of each word of the first sentence.
insert numbers if required by using the author’s date of birth.

  18. Is there anything out there that would be equivalent to Messenger? I want to get rid of Facebook. I use Messenger when I want to just chat with someone privately….

      1. Not WhatsApp. Facebook BOUGHT WhatsApp. There are severe privacy problems with WhatsApp now. I used to use it but now have deleted it.

    1. Hi Sharon. There are literally dozens of messaging programs to choose from. What to choose would depend entirely on what you expect from it. Google messenger or Outlook’s, Instagram, etc, etc. If ALL you want to do is chat, with or without video, and keep things secure I strongly suggest Teamviewer. You can chat with 1 person or invite others to join you. It has a remote control app built in so if you’re more computer savvy you can help each other. Most importantly is that Teamviewer is very secure and does NOT share or sell your data.

    2. signal. hands down. WhatsApp was purchased by FB if you are looking for something else that is not connected, I would go with Signal.

    3. StreetLoc is the best built platform to challenge Facebook. And they have private messaging as one of their many functions.

  19. So in your opinion …which apps are the most similar to Facebook? Meaning how we can use it …. post our thoughts, opinions, post pictures, connect with friends, groups.

    1. MeWe is really similar to FB I’ve been on it for a week or so and like it. Just need more users and friends to come join in!!!

  20. Try MeWe
ZDNet: “Have Issues with Facebook? MeWe Surges to 9 Million Members” ?

    MeWe Friends,

The MeWe Movement is here! ? The world is waking up to the fact that Facebook, Twitter and the other social media giants spy on, target, and manipulate their users and newsfeeds.? These giants are even censoring good, harmless users and posts simply for sharing viewpoints that these companies’ leaders disagree with.

    1. I was on MeWe, deleted my profile after a month. I made my profile strict so I could not receive private msgs. Still I got private msgs. Was a real problem for me. I reported it to MeWe and they said they are working on some minor glitches. I really understand they have to develop some more. Im not on social media to flirt around , Im married, seriously. But the texts never stopped. I was blocking people more than I had time to read what I wanted to read. I ended up leaving. Im still on instagram only , but I need to go from there. I cant seem to download Parler. Im stuck at home , so I really need some kind of safe social media please advise.

  21. Jack – Parler is the alternative to Twitter & Rumble is the alternative to YouTube. Dan Bongino recently invested in both platforms because they do NOT censor conservatives.

  22. I use Spreely on occasion. It is supposed to promote free speech, but I don’t have any friends on there yet. Anyone else use it?

    1. what is Spreely like Sherry….facebook is just getting old….it really is….anything about the election and you end up in Facebook jail…Jimmy

  23. I finally gave Facebook the boot too …anything I posted regarding truth about the leftist A-Holes and the stooges that follow them got deleted and was deemed false factchecked regardless of the fact that it WAS fact….so having had enough I kicked those gutless spineless cowards to the trash bin before they could ban me. Youtube isn’t far behind FB when it come to pulling the same socialist censoring kind of thing and I feel it won’t be long before they follow suit. I’ve been on the search for a better social media platform since… where conservative values and morals can be welcomed and appreciated. If any of you know where I can find a place to set up shop please post it here and I’ll check back every so often.

    1. Jack – Parler is the alternative to Twitter & Rumble is the alternative to YouTube. Dan Bongino recently invested in both platforms because they do NOT censor conservatives.

    2. Go to Parler. I wonder why they did’nt mention Rumble as an alternative to YouTube either. Hmmmm….

    3. Minds (more popular) and spreely
are FB like but safe from “fact checkers aka ministry of truth” lol.

Is like Twitter without the biased political cencership

Is like youtube but accept all, Alice Jones even moved to it

      1. Blurp.Online is a cross between Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. No fact-checkers, no censorship and completely private. Blurp online has a ton of features that people are used to having like Stories, custom profile page backgrounds, Live videos, and more..

    4. Ughhhh I’ve been searching like crazy I like the setup and layout of WIMKIN but it’s super glitchy 3 times I opened the app and I was logged in under someone else not really tho like I tried posting to see who it would post as and it did it as me but showed another persons profile I’m thinking they’ll work out all the kinks as they know people are sick of the bs at fb if you find something good find me on WIMKIN @Jaime Corter

    5. Usa.life, gab.com, Parler are some options where they don’t censor. Also the replacement for you tube is rumble.

    6. I’m with you Jack! After what FB did to my President today, I’m done with them! Sounds like MeWe is a possibility. I’m fed up with the Commies that control our social media.

    7. Try StreetLoc in place of Facebook. It has the most thoughtful and thorough platform I have seen yet. Just need more people to join it.

  24. It’s not just conservatives being censored. try calling trump’s 4 oldest out for acting like white trash at queen’s palace when they weren’t even invited. 30 days in FB jail! called it hate speech. but you can post ugly racist derogatory caricatures, they’ll leave those up! I guess they are done outta love!

    1. I’ve been on FB since 2009, never a problem. Suddenly, I have been “warned” twice and last evening, restricted for “harassment”! In a discussion with a Trump supporter who was bragging about his 401K and stated wealth is all he needs to re-vote Trump, I simply wrote: “Oh…you’re a money whore!” BOOM! Harassment, jail, cast out! WHAT?!?! I’ve written this in other discussions and even among friends and it’s really tame considering some comments and discussions I’ve read! I’m so ticked that I’m shopping for a new venue…I’m exhausted with FB and slightly enraged thinking that my comments are scrutinized, monitored, dissected and judged by some unseen cowards who have their own agenda.

  25. yep twitter, facebook are nothing more than pirates of the technoauthoritarianism algorythm socialist agenda. They cut everyone off who is conservative.

  26. Guys head over to coldcast .org and enjoy a truly open social experience. You can even earn £1 for every 20 friends you refer. Zero corporate interference.

  27. My longstanding FB account was getting heavily censored so I tried creating a new one was just getting started repopulating my friends list etc… I had literally made four posts, a couple articles and a couple videos from educated professionals like an Oxford professor or researchers knowledgeable on the subject related to current events like how they are inflating covid numbers, recording asymptomatic non-infectious as infectious, recent studies indicating that children are being put at more risk due to related restrictions than covid itself etc… I Tried to login today and apparently with no warnings, no bans, no means to contest decision those censor happy fucks disabled my account that had only existed a few days. That was the last straw, this is ridiculous and people need to take a stand but the lemmings will just keep on following and guzzling that kool-aid. I’m on Mewe now but I’m pretty sure absolutely nobody else I know is there so I’ve essentially just had to abandon all my friends and family altogether in order to take a stand. Sucks to not be able to stay in contact with a lot of people now but whatever, maybe they will all wake up one day too.

    1. yep twitter, facebook are nothing more than pirates of the technoauthoritarianism algorythm socialist agena. They cut everyone off who is conservative.

    2. You are exactly right. FB has pissed me off to no end for the umpteenth millionth time. I am done. I am going to diaspora or ello.

  28. Not the same. He’s not knocking at anyone’s door, simply exercising his right to Freedom of Speech. FB is taking down his speech – putting tape over his mouth. They are pulling down or not showing his content – building a wall around him so no one, even those who share his beliefs, can see them. If people don’t want to see or hear, great! That’s their right. But everyone has the right to post or say what they want. You don’t like it, don’t look. And like always, there are scientists on BOTH sides, experts on both sides, pick any subject – from global warming to the pandemic. Both sides deserve the same rights to express their opinions.

  29. I was banned from Facebook before I even finished the profile. Apparently it was based on the email I used, because it was from a website that promotes prayer and action to end human trafficking. I am totally amazed at what they’re doing. This small church in Houston, TX that I know that doesn’t ever talk about politics, was actually banned without any recourse. Cool ministries is a ministry to people coming out of prison and their families. They provide a resource setting with worship services for them where they would not be judged by others and the page was just shut down. Facebook took their page down, didn’t send them an email as to why, so they sent their people to another personal page Of the pastor that they were sending people to for info on worship times and the church and their videos and that one got shut down within two days, again with no explanation or reason why. I think that stinks. This is happening over and over to Christians and conservatives. Since when do they hate Christians so much? What happened to freedom of speech? Most Christians are really nice people who love God and others like they are supposed to and like this church try to help others. The only other countries where Christians are treated this way are dictatorships or communist regimes. Have we really allowed us ourselves to become that kind of country? How did we ever let a company like Facebook become a monopoly with a product that Has cornered the social media market Without a true competitor? I thought that was against the law. I know they were competitors out there at one time, but what happened to them? To think that the whole nation will be shut off from each other if Facebook goes down, is a sad and dismal reality. And losing the freedoms to express views is the first freedom people lose in authoritarian/communistic countries. Next is jailing them fro their beliefs. That is happening to a pastor in California, Che’ Ahn. They are going to jail him for having church. If people are social distancing what’s the big deal?
If walks like a duck and talks like a duck and has the same feathers, it probably is a duck. We are about to become a dictatorship or communist country.

  30. I moved from using AOL& MySpace to facebook to share with family and network gaming friends. I hated the changed in 2008 but had already had my older family migrate there. The new data view is crap. If I wanted to browse via phone I would use my phone. And there are a lot of user-friendlier apps to use as social platform if on smartphone. I used AOL& Myspace until they became to narrow. AOL I was willing to pay forever if it stayed in a static base format. I liked Tribe a lot for all its aspects except handling image sharing. If I want a corporate giant to have control of my info without any real benefit in return may as well just go to MSN groups! maybe diaspora.. or maybe just split out into different services that equate. I don’t fiddle around on my phone that much… it is for communication and entertainment is secondary

  31. Why is Marc Chinoma the only one who says Nap sack is the true alternative to Facebook. Does anyone else without a vested interest agree? Can you describe how it is the same as Facesbook, and How it is different?

  32. I am in the process of looking myself for another SM platform instead of FB. They keep taking down my posts and now updated another restriction.

        1. I agree with Sue get LastPass password manager. A suggestion though before you do a new password write it down as they need to be 8+ characters long, have a capital, a number etc etc.
Password managers are necessary these days

      1. I went to Parler but I don’t see anything comparable to FB Messenger or adding friends.
Maybe it’s there but I haven’t seen it?

    1. Not banned yet… but certainly want to be able to have my own view. I can post hentai and never see a peep over it. I say Constitution and people flip their $4it!

  33. I don’t know enough about the alternatives to FB to choose, but choose I must, since they have banned me, for reasons not specified. I AM a strong Conservative, but I do Not use vulgar language, nor do I say anything offensive, other than the Truth. Truth is offensive to heathens, America-haters, etc, but I think it should be allowed in public forums. They have no problem with filth and hate speech, but they ban decent commentary.

    1. Somewhere out there, a large Rottweiler stands between a Jehova’s Witness and a current resident’s front door.

    2. You guys should move to usa.life Conservative christian FB basically! Full of patriotism and fun! Clean, kids can be on it without worry!! Come on over!:)

  34. Parler is gaining popularity but signing up requires a phone number, and that’s a bit too invasive for my taste.

    1. I signed up to Parler and have never been able to log back. I’ve tried and tried but no luck. I even tried to sign up with a new name, password, and email address, but it won’t even do that, so I give up. And what’s up with the dam password BS? No password I tried originally was good enough, so I had to use the stupid password generator which gave me the longest most ridiculous password I’ve ever seen. there is no way on earth I’d ever remember that.

      1. simple answer to password problem. 1/ choose a book.
2/ select the first (last) letter of each word of the first sentence.
insert numbers if required by using the author’s date of birth.

  35. This is the problem Facebook and the Zuckerberg bots have the monopoly on Social Media and that’s why he can get away with taking such liberties with data harvesting and so fourth, because there isn’t an alternative that can be used, so until someone comes up with a workable free SM idea, there will be no way of knocking Zuckerberg off his perch

  36. FBwankers don’t like the truth about jews, muslims, catholics or any other religious fucktards. Why is there no proper alternative to fbwankers? Because your governments want it that way.

  37. Woke up this morning and I’m banned on FB, for life, it appears. Must have posted too much truth last night, lol. Oh well…I’m gonna consider it divine intervention. Thank you Jesus, for pulling me away from the demons that aim to censor, divide, and destroy the free thinking world. Wish I would have gotten some people’s addresses! I like writing letters anyway. F Facebook!

    1. Still in beta. Couln.t even get through the sign up without a hiccup. Where’s the alternative. Not even attractive

  38. OneWay is a Christian faith based alternative to Farcebook who doesn’t use censorship as a means to control others.

  39. This isnt helpful for people looking to share truth and articles that have been banned by the fedbook nazis.

You tube is also starting to censor information and control the narrative of all its content, it’s a nazi organization as well.

      1. Who decides what is misinformation, AND who verifies what the “Fact Checkers” say. What if there are qualified alternative views or research that counters the point?
There is an obvious problem with “Fact Checkers” that are biased and it is far too open to abuse by those that would force their views upon others.

  40. There’s also Facebook alternative for sharing ideas and inspirations for family friendly things: infoStraight.com and another Facebook alternative called Myspace.com for sharing music and videos (yes, for those who still remember them, they are still alive!)

    1. I’m tired of FB nazis censorship! I received a warning this morning for sharing someone else’s post as SPAM! Are you kidding me?!? Memes are shared all over FB! is there an app out there where groups of like minded people can come together and chat real-time? There use to be a program YEARS ago called Pow-Wow. Absolutely loved it but AOL shut them down because they used the term IM. AOL sued them and poof, they were gone.

  41. GAB.AU is off line- temparary, I hope.
Whilst Facebook is willing to host Muslim extremist groups, anything remotely right-of-centre is prohibited.
I got bans of one month for saying the truth regarding manchester politicians ( later expressed in the newspapers ) regarding the nightclub bombings.
The last straw was when someone posted “I’m glad you’re ols-you’ll be dead soon ” and i retaliated in kind.
    Yet another month’s ban !
Perhaps one day, the authorities will investigate the tie-up between Facebook and Google.
Too many times havie i Google searched a item, only to have the thing i was searching for turn up on Facebook in their ‘groups that might be of interest’ section.- too many times for it to be couincidental.
Since i have removes all instances of Facebook and Google from my main computers, i have had no ‘tracking’ or location based advertising whatsoever.
I must comment that i found no extreme right wing activity on GAB whatsoever- but then, I was’nt looking for it .

    1. Pete, The same thing happened to me.. I spoke the truth about the muslims.. and I got banned for another 30 days.. So I just left. I think the entire staff is now made up of muslims.. No more of their dammed Sharia from them on me.. I left for good.. I am now looking for a American human social room.. How are you doing ?

      1. Well done Laura. I’m looking for an alternative myself. Created an account on MeWe, but there are others. Still looking

  42. Hi everyone, There is another facebook like site called INFINITYSN. They are not judgmental and allow you to post whatever you want including political views. Please check it out. They have a lot of people on there that have post photos and opinions that are not censored like facebook does to people. You can use your android phone to go to play store and and download their app. You can also download to your comuter too if you like. That’s what I did. I too was sick of Facebook censoring and booting people off because they have different views and opinions that the FAR LEFT facebook people have.
Its worth a try to check it out and if you don’t like it then uninstall it. INFINITYSN APP
When I first went on the INFINITYSN site it was a little difficult to find things and make a profile but they have made improvements and it is so much better. Try it and let me know what you think.
P.S. They also have a HOW TO PAGE on YOUTUBE to show you how to navigate this website and set things up.

  43. Sidenet.com – a social website for meeting new people, not for dating. It’s lightweight, does not collect any secret data, and concentrates only to personal communication with other real people.

  44. I had bad Experience today with FACEBOOK. they disable my account without prior notice due to security reason. I had experienced back then some person hacked my account facebook didn’t do anything now someone for the 2nd time did this and post something and boom. my account since 2009 gone for good. I asked them and said it is final.

    1. Don’t feel bad – they just shut me down, probably for the same “security” reason, after I attracted 122,000 followers from all over the globe, in 4 years and 28 days. All people who had/loved dogs of the Shih Tzu breed (or an endless variety of ‘mixes’). Our purpose was to promote rescues/adoptions/fostering of these beautiful pups. Do you suppose the world is now safer? Do you feel more secure? My website (Shihtzumania.com) is still up and running, but no one in my household does FB anymore 🙁

        1. Wow, Laura…what a stupid thing to say. Let’s just do exactly what fb does and “label” what we think is true and stereotype a person from a group because we had a bad experience. Not all people who are Muslim, Jewish, Liberal or Conservative etc are bad…smh..

      1. I tried to sign up yesterday and had a problem. I sent e mail under “contact” and as yet today have received no response.

  45. Yes, I have some strong opinions on politics, religion, and other such “stuff” – as I am sure many others do as well. And when (or if) I want to share them I can go find some discussion site devoted to that. Although, in my experience, people seldom willing to put down their own bullhorn long enough to actually consider the validity of an opposing viewpoint is rare to vanishing, that is usually time not well spent anyway. So, I don’t care which way FB leans or censors.

What I wanted with FB is a place to keep up with friends and family. Maybe view/post pics of the kids or places that have recently given me a warm feeling. That sort of stuff… And with the revelations about FB, I guess I’m still looking.

    1. Laura I have not had the sharia experience in Facebook to which you keep referring. I have discovered though a sickening proliferation of child porn and groups where adult men choose their favourite young boy!! Yes, all on Facebook. I reported many photos (one showing a naked bruised boy child lying on a bed) and sexual comments from men. Facebook refused to remove any of the photos and very few of the comments. This is why I feel unable to stay on the platform.

  46. It is not ready for prime-time.
For example, when responding to ‘connect requests’ and going to look at the person sending the request you get a blank page saying you are not authorized to look at that profile.
Plus, I don’t see what makes this that much more secure than FB except that it is not as big and powerful yet.
There needs to be a fundamentally different model where the community somehow owns and protects the control of the code and data.

    1. I have a 30+ websites on different platforms, and I think SMF could be a more or less ideal platform, partly because near unlimited child boards e.g. from world>continents>countries>regions/provinces/counties>municipalities>towns/villages>areas and or streets for rss feed news . (local)moderators and combined with chat you can chat with whoever is in a certain (child) board without disclosing data (except the moderators-webmasters who have to be member to moderate/adminster) . Every member has a profile page, and can send pm’s to other members besides the mentioned chatoption, it has also a portal with frontpage.Cause it’s UTF-8 it can handle every language, and I myself put a google translate button on my dutch or english pages so it can be read in as many languages as google translate has (and yes that works cause i get traffic from ALL those countries) . Sofar I have a smf for local use, one for national and others on several subjects.

  47. Have you actually given it a try? I don’t know what happened, but others are getting on with no problem. Please contact me and I would be happy to go through it with you, but you’re wrong about the site and I am more than happy to help you. I’m on it right now. Contact me.

    1. As I said I tried many times. Maybe they changed something to try to make sure people added what they wanted in that field or something. It is just a text field but nothing I entered seemed to satisfy its hidden requirement…

      1. I don’t get it. Many have tried with no problem. Are you David last name start with an S? Also, please allow me to go through it for you. I will even set it up just so I can see what you’re talking about. That is if you already created a profile.

    2. No, I was not able to continue as hard as I tried.
It said something about illegal characters in the location field and would not let me continue. All I had in that field were the names of cities and such with spaces. Maybe you need to look at the error checking on that field.
It is best practice to accept whatever characters are entered and move on or if you are going to block a user from proceeding to explain exactly what was found that is illegal.

      1. I am lost because it does accept characters in that field, especially if it is a legitimate city and state. If you can do me a favor. Can you please go to the contact on the site, give me your information and let me create a profile for you. This way I can see for myself what is wrong. I would need your DOB, full name, email address, political preference, race, education, occupation, relationship status and that should be it.

    3. wow, you seem scammy Marc. Maybe you should take “no thank you” as an answer! I was interested until you started pushing so hard, now I’m just suspicious.

      1. I had a bit of an issue trying to set up my account as well. It took me three tries. I think it was my password that was the issue. It wouldn’t accept symbols.

  49. I am done with Facebook for all of the above stated reasons. I am looking for a FB type platform which remains politically neutral and allows all users to express their views.

    1. I SO TOTALLY “AGREE!” However I’ll not leave it YET. For I need to keep looking for another alternative that is quite similar in friends/gaming/NO NAZI-ISM against its members!! WITH FIRST AMENDMENT PROTECTION!

  50. I’m just looking for a place that will display all the latest articles from sites I “Liked”. Maybe with an option to share. Basically a Facebook clone, but not Facebook. They’ve become complete nazis (the site, not the people).

    1. Most of his article is absurd. Poorly written in several ways including its gross departure from the thematic statement, it best serves as a validation of the popular contention that today’s internet bloggers are poorly educated “hacks”…

  51. Hi. Seeking ideas for a social network niche. Not political, not a place to vent your anger or frustration, just a useful platform where people can find new friends, share information, ideas and hobbies. A social network for ??????????

    1. Basically run with a platform similar to farce book ! Except keep it a level playing field for all , political opinions etc should not censured! The UN has no right to stop anyone from critique of a religion, political ideology, long as your an adult what you post should be only condemned by those in that group!

  52. Facebook is geting progressively left wing-criticise islam- you’re banned from posting.
Same if you criticise the labour government banned- no appeal !
If facebook really wanted to be democratic in it’s policies, instead of a totalitarian, on line ‘megastate that dictates what is posted, their would be a ‘appeal’ procedure in place — there is no such thing !

    1. I’m on the opposite side of the political spectrum as you, and have many similar frustrations. It makes me think there’s a deeper problem leading to similar symptoms hitting both “sides”. Either way, I’m getting tired of Facebook’s dictatorial “service”, that’s increasingly tailored for the organizations buying our data, and less focused on the individual users.

      1. Facebook’s anti-right movement comes from the pressure of different people, organisations and even governments (Germany and USA are prime examples of that), while their anti-left (less yet still present) policies come either from other governments such as Eastern European ones, Asian ones, or the sheer extremism that left posts started to have (feminists saying they want to burn all men then wondering why they’re banned, for example). Either way, it seems Facebook takes its “you are the product” ideal to the extreme, we have no right whatsoever over our data, while they have the right to outright ban us for the stupidest things ever. That is the lack of serious competition combined with the social pressure, and I am tired of all that. We need another platform…

  53. Listing Instagram and Tinder as alternatives is simply wrong. Instagram is no alternative, since it’s owned by FB. Tinder is no alternative, since it requires a FB account for you to use it.

  54. I really hate facebook and want to find an alternative.
I use facebook as an yellow-page. For those whom (I meet) I would like to know their background or their experiences……I can only look at the facebook. However, there seems to have no alternative for this points.

  55. Add one more to the list, Nojoto. Just found it. It is awesome especially the image uploading section, these guys are very creative. They have an android app available on Google play store.

  56. I agree with all that you have stated here. It so true, there are people who have no one to be with or speak with. We all need someone to keep going. Even owning an animal is better than being alone. I have been attacked on Facebook for posting my own family pictures. People have pretended to friend me for about a year then stole my children’s & my pics. I am looking for another site because i am sick of the trash on Facebook.

    1. We can start our own Facebook alternative. Become founders and set our own all inclusive rules for everyone. But set safe rules for those under 18 users. We just need a volunteer with computer savy enough to design it for themselves and us free.

      1. Not likely to get one for free. These type of sites get quite expensive to maintain especially when they get popular. In free sites you are the product and in membership supported sites you are the customer. Facebook is a free site, how do you like it.

  57. You need to be a proper person with a suit and tie on Facebook. You are not allowed to have a subversive side to your personality. You’re not allowed to oppose American imperialism. I can’t find any way to maintain a presence on network. I once had 4500 groups including one of 178000. And then, Hey, Bisto! my account was gone and my control of groups and pages.

I’d like something like Facebook with a group arrangement. Minds is good. Google Plus is good. But nothing is out there that approaches the flexibility of Facebook.

I keep trying. So many people find fault with Facebook you would think some technical type could find an opportunity there.

    1. I agree entirely ! Seems all it takes is one critic of a meme! One person with a complete lack of a funny bone and your banished! I posted a meme that said hitler would love modern democrats! Busted? Which is complete garbage, compared to celebrities calling for the assassination of politicians WTH is that?

      1. Agree, let the new improved FB (Not) be social, sharing and about personal profiles, buy, sell, trade sites, chat capable, friend and unfriend, one simple abide by policy … Respect and have a report abuse button. Allow ads of course but actually have them by edit/choice. Personal Info not sold or shared to outside sources. This is doable but common sense suggests this may require a forty or fifty dollar per year membership just to keep it safe, honest and with less corruption. Any clean wide spread social network service will have basic expenses and would be well worth a small fee. Besides, a few bucks a year is enough to keep young children and most unworthies away! ????

  58. minds.com
-Facebook -type social media platform with open source and innovative ways of reaching audience. Still in beta and mostly focused on different subjects and channels, rather than personal profiles.

  59. My chief concern with FB is censorship. Zuckerberg aids and abets any criticism of the evils of islam from 3rd world Pakistan to the EU. He is a globalist. I Soros’s jr. apprentice just like Gates.

    1. Yep. it is not out of control. Like Hitler , just blocking people who post things they dont like especially political posts. It has shifted to ring wing viewpoints. Hence why I deleted my account

    2. Odd you should mention that. As a former FBook devotee when they (after seven years) required for very personal information, drivers licence info etc that I never give out, I realized for what they were offering was not worth the information tney wanted,. Had they called my listed ph# they could ha e proven to themselves i was a real human. A blessing in disguise it tuened out to be though. No more negativity, no more sitting on the edge of rage every day. Feeling much better now.

      1. Had a similar experience. I use an alias online. Some retired security government type decided to “report” me for not having a real name, after which FB required a photo ID I politely left. No discussion about it. I do not give my photo ID out online to anyone. That’s the whole POINT of an alias. I didn’t marry them, and I don’t miss them. I emailed him and informed him that if he bothered to search, or has any talent searching online, he could find my real name connected with my alias quite easily himself.

    1. I agree MeWe should definitely be on the list. It takes a bit to get use to, but the community is great. You can truly tailor the groups and interactions to fit your style. If you don’t like what groups are available make your own.

  60. VK is also a big facebook alternative with over 100 Million active users per month and is the biggest social site in Russia followed by facebook. I hope you will consider adding it in the article.

    1. WordPress, Deviant Art, Google Plus, Webstore.com, Flickr, etc . . . I think the only reason some of the others don’t replace FB is because FB has gotten people used to being there, and invested there, and it’s big. If everyone uses it, then it’s problematic to connect everywhere. Just remember, it’s EVERYWHERE. That kind of gives me a huge pause.

  61. I find it highly hypocritical that Facebook makes it’s users prove their identity with a government issued ID which they check against a database. This from a bunch of leftist democrats who are violently against voter ID laws. The irony BURNS. I would agree with the other poster here that these other sites are nothing like the FB interface.

      1. You are Wrong! Fuckerburg censors all right-wing information. Facebook is run by the Progressive Democrats aka The “Commies” in America! You are Right about our information being accessed daily by the Government.

    1. Their hypocrisy doesn’t affect me. Wierd people showing up on my doorstep does. Give out your real name, and guess what? Crammed inbox, home phone calls from scammers, criminals. They are all out there gathering information also. They troll Facebook pages for a living. It’s very profitable. It’s profitable for Facebook also.

  62. I agree with Mr Smith. Facebook getting too powerful. I tried to log in with Tor , and I lost an account with more than 200 pictures of my neighborhood.Facebook is blocking me and ask for my real ID card.I do not feel confortable uploading online id card.
Curiously in the review they forgot to mention my space , google plus. and the the russian Facebook, Vkontakte. (That has english version ).

    1. You are right ppaul. In a similar fashion, I have lost my facebook access. All my photos (sweet memories of my grandfather, friends and relatives)and sharing present on my account was lost. This happened as I moved to a different location. When I tried to access my account it showed me a lot of queries about verify my identity. For the same, I have almost forgotten the relevant information because it was created way back.
So I am looking to figure out a social media account where I can keep memories alive for forever. And can access it from anywhere without any trouble.

      1. Sorry to hear about loosing your photos. Just to let you know when you uploaded these photos you lost your ownership and Facebook became the legal owner. Read the fine print.

  63. We a real alternative to Facebook really soon or Mark Zuckerberg will control all news on the planet and he too sympathetic to censorship and working with governments that are pro censorship like China, and US government agencies like, NSA,CIA,HLS,in programs like Prism. If someone doesn’t challenge this platform we will lose our freedom of speech the First Amendment, from there the United States will quickly become a totalitarian regime, more so that it has already become.

    1. Agreed. Between fake news and censoring people who criticize Trump and supporters, not to mention the zillions of ads everywhere, I have about had it!

  64. Well, Anne, it sounds you’re quite lost to the real world out there, if you can’t live without posting how you feel, on Facebook. Think again, how much more quality time you will enjoy when you tell a real living person about how you feel, huhh? Facebook is for toddlers who hardly can stand on their own two feet and don’t think for themselves, copying other people’s opinion, related to the amount of likes given to it.

    1. Yeah, what Layla said.

Seriously, FB is what you make of it and for many people it has become a public forum where they share with each other all sorts of news, news alternatives and political articles. It had a profound effect on the last election as did Twitter. The problem with FB, is that it has become an enemy of truth through adoption of corporate models, as did Twitter, Redddit, Instagram, Snapchat, Google+, and Youtube for starters.

FB has joined the globalist elites in censorship and downright political manipulation. There seems to be no preventing such from happening to any site that grows a large enough base of influence to be bought up by corporate interests but hey it’s free. The only way to prevent a service becoming a puppet corporate service is to have a subscription model where the subscribers actually own the site and all changes must be approved by them, but people are too damn cheap to pay, so they endure censorship and ignore its faults.

Remember in 2015, when FB was caught using its members as rats in an experiment by posting stories to make them angry, sad, and the whole gambit of emotions? Does anyone really think they care one wit about you?

    2. @Mirian – It’s so easy for people to comment and say things like, “Facebook is for toddlers who hardly can stand on their own two feet and don’t think for themselves, copying other people’s opinion, related to the amount of likes given to it.” I understand where you are coming from – and I may even agree with what you are saying – person to person relationships are critical to human beings – it’s a fact that people who are alone many times die earlier and suffer physical and mental maladies if their relationship needs are not met. However, I do not agree with the way in which you verbalised it. It sounded completely condescending.
There are hundreds of thousands of people in this world who are home-bound for many different reasons – whether that be due to disabilities, or serious illness. Maybe they are elderly, and frail. Whatever the reason – everyone feels less alone when they have someone to talk to – even if it’s to share a recipe – or a story about a dear loved one who passed away – or just to reach out because they’ve had a rotten day and they have joined a facebook group that gives them support. I don’t know all of the reasons why – but i do know that there are many people that fall into that category. It’s easy to tell someone to put their big-boy pants on and go out into the world when we ourselves – have an easy time doing that. But we need to realize that some do not. I do not like Facebook – not at all. For all of the reasons mentioned above by other posters, I left Facebook. The final straw for me was the announcement that all of the posts were to be censored – we are looking more and more like a totalitarian society – and honestly? Anyone who is not gravely concerned – should be.

    3. One of the most intelligent comments I have seen in a long time. Makes me feel I’m not alone in the world…

    4. You are exactly right. FB has pissed me off to no end for the umpteenth millionth time. I am done. I am going to diaspora or ello.

  65. None of these are anything like facebook. I want to simply post how Im feeling, and interact with people by posting. Having a bio, yes, but mostly just to make friends.

    1. You’re right Anne, FB is like a Swiss Knife, the big problem now with FB is that your privacy is compromised. People want FB like platforms but with more security and privacy. Example Privacy for surname or Profile pic that doesn’t have to be your Real Face on it.

All the alternative given sites do something but missed the point by a mile wide of Being like FB.

    2. Linkedin is a viable alternative to Facebook. You can do all the same things without any of the control that Facebook puts on it’s users.

      1. No its now in the MicroSoft nest… Another NSA Spyware periscope up our wazoo.
