You can also use the crafter in Minecraft 1.21 to automate the crafting process. It will require some initial time and resource investment, but it will be worth if you want an army of armored dogs.

How to Use Wolf Armor in Minecraft

After you craft the armor, you can equip it on your adult tamed wolf. Walk up to your dog and right-click it or use the secondary action button to equip the armor.

The armor will provide the same protection as the diamond horse armor, which translates to 11 armor points or 5.5 shields.

Wolf armor is not the same as horse armor. Since it provides such amazing protection to a tamed wolf that already has 20 hearts health, it would be too OP if this item could last forever. So, it has 64 durability. Once a dog takes damage, the wolf armor will absorb some of it while reducing its durability.

The more damage it takes, the less durability it has. Also, as a visual indicator, cracks will appear on the wolf armor’s texture reminding you it should be repaired. But, how do you repair a dog’s armor?

How to Repair Wolf Armor in Minecraft

First, you need more armadillo scutes. While the wolf armor is equipped on a wolf, you can right-click it with armadillo scutes and they’ll repair the wolf armor by 8 durability per scute. This is the only way to repair the wolf armor, as no repairing recipes exist.

Also, in case you’re wondering whether unbreaking and mending enchantments can be applied to wolf armor, they cannot. You have to repair the armor manually with armadillo scutes.

  • If you’d like to remove your wolf’s armor, you need to use shears by right-clicking on it. This will remove the armor and drop it as an item. In the scenario that your dog dies while wearing armor, the item will get dropped.

Moreover, another cool feature is that you can dye wolf armor different colors. The process depends on the game edition you’re using, as you can dye it inside the crafting grid on Java Edition, whereas you will need a cauldron on Bedrock Edition.

Not only that, but it’s possible to combine many color dyes with the wolf armor, so you can create a crazy total of 5,713,438 colors. Yeah, that’s insane. Check out our linked guide for more details on how to dye wolf armor.

So, that’s all you need to learn about crafting and repairing dog armor in Minecraft. It’s a unique new addition that will affect multiplayer servers, as well as the single-player experience. So, what are your thoughts on the wolf armor in Minecraft? Are you a fan? Tell us in the comments below!

It would’ve been nice if Technoblade is still around…the Hound Army can do with some armor, even if L’Manberg is already destroyed
