If you love your cute little doggos and want to take them everywhere with you, but are frightened that something bad might happen to them, then this is the guide for you. We will show you how to make wolf armor in Minecraft 1.21, a special item that you can equip on your tamed wolf to give it some extra protection. With that said, let’s get started!

Resources You Will Need to Make Wolf Armor

To make wolf armor in Minecraft, you will need the following items:

  • 6 Armadillo Scutes
  • Crafting Table

In order to obtain armadillo scutes, you will need to find the adorable armadillo mob in your local savanna biome in Minecraft. They are small, pinkish mobs that will curl in a ball if you sprint near them.

To acquire the armadillo scutes, you thankfully don’t need to kill these animals. But, you can use the new brush tool introduced in the Minecraft 1.20 update on them, and it will see the armadillo drop scutes.

There is no cooldown, so you can repeat this action as many times as you want. However, keep in mind that if you use a brush in this way, the tool’s durability will deplete rapidly, so you’ll need to craft a new one frequently. The crafting table is a basic utility block that can be crafted from four planks of any type.

Now that you’ve collected the required resources, follow the step-by-step process below to make yourself the wolf armor.

  • First, place the crafting table in the world and right-click to open its UI.
  • Place three armadillo scutes filling the leftmost or rightmost column of the crafting grid.

  • After that, finish filling the middle row of the crafting grid using two more scutes.
  • Finally, place the last armadillo scute in the bottommost slot of the left or right column, depending on which one has this slot vacant.
  • The wolf armor will appear on the right, which you can easily move to your inventory.

You can also use the crafter in Minecraft 1.21 to automate the crafting process. It will require some initial time and resource investment but will be worth it if you want an army of armored doggos.

After you craft this item, you can equip it on your adult tamed wolf. Then, walk up to your dog and right-click it or use the secondary action button to equip the armor. The wolf armor will provide the same protection as the diamond horse armor, which translates to 5.5 armor points.

If you’d like to take the armor off of your wolf, you’ll need to use shears on it. This will remove the armor and drop it as an item. In the sad case that your dog dies while wearing armor, the item will get dropped. Furthermore, wolf armor has no durability meter, which essentially means it can last forever unless it’s destroyed in fire, lava, or cactus.

Only a tamed wolf’s owner can equip and unequip the wolf armor.

So, that’s all you need to learn about crafting wolf armor in Minecraft 1.21. Currently, there’s only the pinkish armor variant of the wolf armor, but we’ll possibly get more colorful options to choose from in future beta releases or the official release. Is wolf armor worth it?

The wolf armor is still in early development, but it does seem like it’ll absorb a lot of incoming damage for your wolf. This will make it better not only in PvE battles but also in PvP fights.

  • It would’ve been nice if Technoblade is still around…the Hound Army can do with some armor, even if L’Manberg is already destroyed
