Best of MWC 2024: Wrist Phones, AI Phone, Transparent Laptop, and More

It is that time of the year again when tech nerds from across the globe gather in Barcelona to show off their latest innovations. Yes, we are talking about the MWC (Mobile World Congress). This year as well, we get to see some pretty exciting tech make a public appearance and baffle the crowd. We have handpicked what we feel are the best reveals of MWC 2024. So, without any further ado, let’s jump into the list!

1. Lenovo’s Transparent Laptop

Straight out of a sci-fi movie, the Lenovo ThinkBook Transparent laptop makes every tech lover’s dream come true. By transparent, we mean a see-through level of transparency on a massive 17.3-inch, 720p Micro-LED display with 1,000 nits of brightness. Now, although this is a “concept” product right now, it gives us a clear insight into what the near future possibly holds for us.

This is no ordinary transparent display and is actually backed by AIGC (Artificial Intelligence Generated Content). In other words, the presence of a transparent display tuned by this tech will allow users to interact with real-world objects in a virtual-real hybrid environment.

Sounds cool, right? Well, it is an insanely fun time to use it too, and is hands down, one of the best MWC 2024 unveils.

2. Xiaomi SU7 EV

The Xiaomi SU7 series does not require any introduction at this point, for it has quite literally taken the automobile industry by storm with its first physical appearance at MWC 2024. The SU7 series of EV sedans was announced last year with Xiaomi’s latest HyperOS. But, now that we have seen this beauty for ourselves, we can’t wait for Xiaomi’s very first car to hit the roads.

The Xiaomi SU7 series includes the SU7, SU7 Pro, and the top-of-the-line SU7 Max. Weighing up to 2,205 kgs, generating a whopping 673 Horsepower, and reaching top speeds of up to an impressive 265 km/hr, this car has the potential to revolutionize the EV automobile space. We got to check it out at MWC, have a look:

Most importantly, the SU7 comes with fast charging support as well. According to Xiaomi, it can go 220km with just a 5-minute charge, 390km in 10 minutes, and 510km on just 15 minutes worth of charging.

However, Xiaomi is just getting started and already has an SUV scheduled to launch sometime in 2025. Most importantly, with these EV cars using HyperOS, Xiaomi plans on making its Human x Car x Home vision a reality. A solid Xiaomi ecosystem? Sounds like something.

3. “Wrist Phones

No, we are not talking about smartwatches that guise themselves as wrist phones (ahem, a Dream, right?) Not anymore. We are talking about full-fledged phones that hug your wrist like a band and flex their muscles when you take it off.

At MWC 2024, there’s not one but two brands that presented their renditions of this concept. There is the Motorola rollable “wrist” phone using an adaptive display technology, and then, there is the Samsung Cling Band concept baffling everyone at the event.

I mean, we saw this coming, but the MWC showcase of such wrist-phones only showed how there’s still a lot to go before this becomes a commercial reality. Nevertheless, a phone wrapping around your wrist is a cool idea and something that the not-too-distant future is awaiting the arrival of.

Talk about taking foldable phones to the next level. Easily, one of MWC’s best this year.

4. Samsung Galaxy Ring

After being teased alongside the Galaxy S24 series launch last month, the Galaxy Ring made its first public debut at MWC 2024 as well. Now, although the ones showcased at the event were prototypes, some interesting Galaxy Ring details surfaced online. Right off the bat, the design of the Galaxy Ring seemed identical to the Oura Ring.

Other confirmed features like the My Vitality Score are also similar to the Oura Ring’s Readiness Score. The Galaxy Ring will also feature a Booster Card that will provide insights and guidance by using the in-depth metrics measured and captured by the Ring’s sensors.

We can also expect the Galaxy Ring to offer contactless payments support upon availability. There’s a lot going for Samsung with its Galaxy Ring, and it is undoubtedly one of the best showcases at the MWC event this year.

5. Honor Magic 6 Pro’s AI Eye Tracking

Recently, the Honor Magic 6 Pro went official in China, and at MWC 2024, the brand announced its global availability. It’s the age of AI and Honor is not planning on staying behind. The brand showed off its revolutionary AI eye-tracking feature at the mega tech event. With this technology, one-hand usage of your smartphone will probably reach whole new heights.

The Chinese phone maker has confirmed that the feature will arrive on the Magic 6 Pro. Whether you want to open your notification or even remotely control your car, you can do so by staring at your phone screen, like we don’t already do. However, this is not the only AI feature that Honor is planning to introduce.

They are also working on something called a ‘Magic Portal,’ which automatically pulls details like emails, addresses, and dates from your messages and links them to the appropriate apps. Honor is also working to introduce a feature backed by its MagicLM tech that will let users create videos out of their photos by using text prompts. A lot of AI and a lot of Magic.

6. Concept AI Phone

While on the topic of AI in phones, imagine a smartphone with no apps and just an omnipresent AI assistant helping you to carry out day-to-day tasks that you would otherwise carry out manually on your smartphone. In other words, an actual AI phone.

Well, you don’t have to imagine anymore as MWC 2024 saw German company Deutsche Telekom put up a concept AI phone on display.

This smartphone comes with zero apps and just an AI assistant that does all the heavy lifting for you. Deutsche Telekom has joined hands with Qualcomm and Brain.ai to bring this technology to a concept device.

You can simply use voice commands like, “Book me tickets to Dune 2,” or anything of this sort and the phone will do it for you. Mixing minimalism with technology doesn’t sound like a bad idea. But, it all comes down to how practical such a device actually will be.

7. OnePlus Watch 2

Whether you are a OnePlus user who wants to dip toes deeper into the ecosystem or just someone looking for a powerful and reliable smartwatch, the OnePlus Watch 2 is probably it. This is the very first OnePlus smartwatch to run Wear OS 4.0. Those in the tech space know that when it comes to smartwatches on the Android side of things, nothing really beats Wear OS.

However, it’s not just Wear OS that makes the smartwatch stand out in a saturated market. It is also the Dual-Engine tech where both the Snapdragon W5 and BES 2700 work together to further offer a seamless experience.

Additionally, there’s the 1.43-inch AMOLED display with 1,000 nits of peak brightness. All of that for $299 (or Rs. 24,999 in India) makes it one of the best MWC 2024 launches!

8. Humane AI Pin

What if I told you that you could take a break from your smartphone and go screenless if you wanted to in 2024? The Humane AI Pin can make that a reality for you. Of course, it may not be as practical as it sounds to a lot of people.

Still, as something that is the first of its kind wearable computer, it’s an exciting gadget to see on the MWC 2024 showfloor.

This mini AI computer clips to your clothes and accessories and uses lasers to project data onto your hand, which you can then use touch inputs to browse through the device. Voice and gesture inputs can also be used in tandem to make the most of the AI device.

It’s like this AI assistant is with you wherever you go, making your life easier with every step you take.

However, it doesn’t end there and if I started talking about every other innovation showcased on the MWC 2024 show floor, I’ll probably end up needing a psych evaluation. From a creepy doll powered by ChatGPT and a lawn mower that lets you play Doom to Tecno’s first robot dog and HMD’s Barbie flip phone, there have been just way too many exciting revelations at this year’s MWC. But, these are undoubtedly some of the best that the event has seen so far, in our opinion.

What about you? Which innovation in particular caught your attention this year? Let us know in the comments down below!
