Fortnite Update 42.40 Patch Notes for October 15

New Match Overrides

No new Fortnite Match Overrides were introduced with update 42.40. On the contrary, Epic Games has vaulted four popular Overrides. They were related to combat and general gameplay. Here is the list of Match Overrides that were vaulted:

  • Super Shot
  • Big Boom
  • Action Hero
  • Healing Overdrive

New Sprites

Epic Games introduced two more Sprites to the island with the Fortnite update 42.40. These are the last two Sprites added this season and have their own variants, much like the others. Here are all the new Fortnite Sprites added to Fortnite with this update:

  • Honey Sprite: Chance to spawn bees at the hit location upon dealing damage with a ranged weapon.
  • Obsession Sprite: Extracts enemies’ equipped Sprites upon elimination and pushes nearby enemies away when damaged. Players are marked on the map if the Obsession Sprite is removed.

Aside from the previously mentioned Sprites, new Quack Fortnite Sprites have been added to the Sprite Mastery reward section. These Sprites cannot be obtained through regular means, as was the case last season.

That said, be sure not to waste time and collect these Sprites before the season ends. Use the Cheat Codes in Fortnite to make it easier to find them, or trade with friends to get them without any hassle.

New Loot Hacks and Weapons

Six new Loot Hacks in Fortnite have been added with the update 42.40. One in particular is a major throwback to when Kado Thorne ruled the island, and the other is the comedic Fortnite Finger Guns, which were first added in Chapter 7 Season 2. With that said, here’s the list of new Loot Hacks:

  • Thorne’s Vampiric Blade
  • Finger Guns
  • Gatekeeper Shotgun
  • Hunting Rifle
  • Slap Splash
  • All Sprite Variants

The Fortnite loot pool has also been shuffled around and updated in 42.40. Two items have been vaulted for the remainder of Fortnitemares 2026, including one that was just released two weeks ago. Here is the list:

  • Midas’ Masterpiece (Rift Anomaly)
  • Witch Broom (Pocket Item)

It’s sad to see Midas’ Masterpiece Fortnite Pistol being vaulted, but it had a good run on the island. Besides, with the meta drastically shifting towards fast-paced gunplay, Midas’ Masterpiece was rather outclassed due to limited ammo.

New Map Changes

No new Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 map changes were introduced with the update 42.40. The island remains as is, except for a giant pirate chest that has appeared east of the Sunken Shores Landmark POI. It is speculated that this chest is related to the upcoming Mini Season, which is rumored to be a Fortnite One Piece collab.

Fortnitemares 2026 Collabs

A bunch of Fortnitemares 2026 collabs have already gone live, with a few more en route. This includes the highly anticipated Fortnite Obsession collab, among others that have been officially revealed. Here’s the list of collabs coming with this update:

  • Beetlejuice
  • Hazbin Hotel
  • Predator Badlands
  • Slender Man
  • The Purge
  • Obsession

Epic Games has confirmed that the Fortnite collab with Obsession arrives on October 15, while the release date for others will be revealed soon.

Fortnitemares 2026 Quests and Free Skins

Quite a few Fortnitemares 2026 Quests have been added to the game, which, when completed, grant you the Jack-A-Nape skin in Fortnite. More will be added this week, granting you XP and other cosmetic rewards.

A new set of Kado Thorne Quests in Fortnite was introduced this week. Lastly, the Gold Punk skin can also be obtained by redeeming a Fortnite Gift Card before Fortnitemares 2026 ends.

Discover Redesign

Epic Games is slowly rolling out a new Discover Tab alongside the Fortnite update 42.40. It offers new features to UEFN creators and aims to make it easier for players to navigate and find what they’re looking for at a glance.

It is still a work in progress, and player feedback will be implemented as development continues. Keep in mind that the new Discover Tab could take a while before appearing to you in-game.

Bug Fixes

New bug fixes have been rolled out for Fortnite in update 42.40. They pertain to gameplay in general, and with them now being addressed, your overall gaming experience is going to be better. Here is the list:

  • Weak Points once again appear when hitting a destructible object on Nintendo Switch 2.
  • Fixed an issue where the Lock Input Method as Mouse setting prevented controller and mouse inputs from working together properly.
  • The Shield Potion’s slurp glow effect no longer incorrectly lingers on your character until the end of the match.

That’s about everything we can tell you about the Fortnite update 42.40 patch notes. Let us know in the comments below what you think of Fortnitemares 2026 thus far.
