Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Gets Its First Gameplay Reveal; Check it Out Here!

Spider-Man 2 finding the prowler stash

After pin-drop silence from Insomniac games, we finally have an official trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The sequel to the hit PlayStation 4 title sees everyone’s beloved web-slingers (Peter Parker and Miles Morales) teaming up to save New York. The new trailer dropped at the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase, giving us a look at a few familiar faces from the character’s Rogues Gallery, and a release timeline. So, let’s look at what we have in store:

Spider-Man 2 Trailer Sees the Web-Slingers Team Up

The trailer begins by giving us a glimpse at the game’s rendition of Kraven The Hunter and his acolytes coming to New York to hunt down Spider-Man and Miles Morales. In the Spider-Man 2 trailer, we also get our first glimpse at the symbiote suit and how it drastically changes Peter Parker’s fighting style. Of course, the fighting style leans toward a more aggressive approach, and some familiar move-set from the 2018 game also make a comeback.

Spider-Man 2 gameplay then switches to Miles Morales, confirming that players will be able to control both characters in various instances. Though it doesn’t confirm how the character switch will work in open-world sections. But Insomniac did recently confirm that Spider-Man 2 will be a single-player game and will not bring co-op support.

Regardless, we did get a taste of how Miles plays in comparison to Peter, who is shown utilizing the venom power he got from the previous standalone expansion. Both characters have different fighting styles, and each excels in their respective ways.

The Spider-Man 2 gameplay reveals also showed us a glimpse of the game’s rendition of Lizard, a chase set-piece involving him, and some story beats, which hints that Peter’s personality will be a lot more aggressive. Maybe because of the Venom suit. Of course, the reveal does not show Venom in action, which was confirmed during the reveal of the title.

Spider-Man 2 Release Date Confirmed for Fall 2023

The trailer wraps up with a confirmation of Spider-Man 2’s release date, dropping exclusively for PlayStation 5. No release date for PC or even a confirmation of the game gracing the platform yet. However, it will launch later this year in Fall 2023. We did not get a definite release date, however, that should change in the coming months. The first Spider-Man game launched in September 2018, and this should also follow in its footsteps.
