Christopher Judge has called out Hollywood for not hiring the people who helped create the game when making its adaptation. In his interview at Fan Expo, Christopher Judge said that all game adaptations keep making the same mistake of not hiring the original cast or writers. He particularly called out The Last of Us show and the upcoming writers and cast of the God of War adaptation.
“You have this successful pre-existing property, and the first thing you do is not hire anyone associated with it,” said Christopher. He went on to criticize The Last of Us, saying that even though it was a good TV show, the game’s casting was much superior to it. “I have no idea why you just don’t take that cast, those writers, especially when you’re gonna do episodes that are shot-for-shot remakes of the game.”
Christopher Judge continued to speak on game adaptations, targeting the upcoming God of War series next. He said that the God of War show hasn’t hired any of the game’s original writers, who have over 20 years of experience in the world.
One of the biggest reasons Christopher Judge is loved in the gaming community is his outspoken nature. He has definitely hit the nail on the head with how every game adaptation makes the same mistake. No wonder he was chosen to announce the God of War remake.
This is something I have also been saying for years, and not just about game adaptations, but almost every kind of adaptation. We have seen book stories getting butchered because the adaptation decided to move away from the original writer’s storyline.
Why someone would want to change a proven, working formula is beyond my understanding, and Christopher Judge is clearly echoing the same thoughts. The God of War TV cast definitely has potential, but without the original writers working, the storyline is still a major doubt for many gamers.
Another big doubt is about the actor who will be playing Kratos in the adaptation. After Ryan Hurst’s injury, the God of War TV series is set to recast Kratos. This is a major blow to the show’s production, likely delaying its release quite a bit.
