Fortnite is Getting DLSS 3 Support Very Soon

NVIDIA DLSS 3 Update Is Coming to Fortnite

Fortnite, the massively popular battle royale game is getting a major update that will increase the performance for RTX 40 series graphics card users greatly. The game is expected to get Nvidia’s DLSS 3 tech soon. Let’s discuss the details, including what kind of advantages one can expect with the addition of DLSS 3.

Nvidia Confirms DLSS 3 Upgrade for Fortnite

NVIDIA is finally introducing DLSS 3 to Fortnite, as confirmed in a recent blog post. The update will come out ‘by this fall’, so we can expect it before the end of this year. This will also come for titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and PAYDAY 3. This comes after Nvidia just introduced DLSS 3.5.

This is not the first time Fortnite has supported DLSS. Back in 2020, the game was updated with support for ray-tracing, NVIDIA Reflex, and DLSS 2. What exactly does DLSS 3 include? It has frame generation, which basically leverages the power of artificial intelligence to insert ‘fake frames‘ into your gameplay for additional smoothness. With the feature turned on, RTX 40 series gamers will be able to magically multiply their FPS in Fortnite. You can learn more about Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) tech and how it improves your gameplay experience here.

As an example, let’s assume you were running Fortnite on an RTX 40 Series GPU at about 100 FPS. After the new DLSS 3 update, you could get up to 150-200 FPS instead! In my personal experience of using DLSS 3, I observed a 1.5x to 2x gain in FPS across different games. You can read out the RTX 4060 Ti review here, which includes DLSS 3 benchmarks.

It’s important to note that DLSS 3 is not perfect – it also increases the input latency, which is a major no-no for competitive games. NVIDIA’s Reflex technology does help greatly with this, and every user should definitely turn it on after enabling DLSS 3. After enabling DLSS 3 on Fortnite, the experience of having a slightly delayed mouse input can definitely feel jarring to many people.

Still, for many people who don’t mind the input lag, the feature will provide a vastly superior experience and pretty much double their in-game performance. Are you excited for Fortnite’s upcoming DLSS 3 update? Do you own an RTX 40 Series GPU, and if not, does the DLSS 3 feature entice you to upgrade? Let us know in the comments below.

    @Andy

    I am sure they’ll add it after 27th september, when Cyberpunk hits with the official 3.5 dlss release along with the new DLSS for raytracing, it’ll start being added, ie : fortnite will benefit from 3.5 and the raytracing part of it.

    keep in mind that the INPUT DELAY with dlss 3 (fram gen) is based on the MAIN FPS you have before the FPS boost.

    So for example, if you get 50 fps and you use frame gen, you will have some input delay, thing is, most ppl will get at least 60 with DLSS on.

    So assume you get 60-70 FPS, Frame Generation on, will be even smoother in terms of DELAY, 70 fps + basically makes the DELAY from Frame generation almost non existant.
