Later, Luffy managed to bring powerful people to his crew and lead them stronger than ever.

Monkey D. Luffy has created a storm inside the New World and made a name for himself as one who carries the Will of D. He is in his peak form, unleashing Gear 5 as he has awakened his devil fruit powers. Luffy is currently one of the most OP main characters in anime, and he will get more powerful in the future.

Following the Whole Cake Island arc, Luffy was hyped as he was considered to emerge as the fifth emperor of the sea. Fast forward, Luffy, along with Law and Kid, fought and defeated two emperors of the sea and officially claimed a seat as one of the new emperors of the sea.

There is no doubt that Luffy will become the next pirate king, and we can’t wait for the day he finds the One Piece Treasure.

Zoro was working as a bounty hunter and had earned the fearsome title of “Pirate Hunter Zoro” before meeting Luffy. Like Luffy, Zoro too has a dream and aims to become the world’s greatest swordsman. Luffy invited Zoro to join the Straw Hats when they met in the Romance Dawn arc in One Piece.

At first, Zoro refuses to accept the offer but ends up joining the crew after witnessing Luffy’s personality and how he rescued Zoro from the Marines. Luffy backed Zoro’s dream and wanted him to be a part of the future pirate king’s crew. You can read all about Zoro and his sword collection in the article linked here. He owns some of the best swords in One Piece.

Zoro is the second-best swordsman in the One Piece world after Mihawk, but he will surpass him one day. Right now, Zoro is a loyal mate to Luffy and belongs to the monster trio along with him and Sanji. Many people mistake Zoro for being the leader of the Straw Hat Pirates, nonetheless, he is the second captain of the Straw Hats and the right-hand man of Luffy.

But after Luffy learns about this incident, he rescues the village by beating the Arlong pirates. Nami later officially joins the Straw Hat Pirates at the end of the Arlong Park arc, pursuing her dream to make the map of the entire planet. You can check out our 10 facts you didn’t know about Nami to learn more about her character.

Over the years, Nami has served as a great navigator and led the crew wisely during their adventures. She is one of the best female characters in One Piece. Although she was considered one of the weaklings, she recently proved her courage and power with her Sorcery Clima-Tact. Combining her weapon with Zeus, she created devastating attacks and defeated Ulti herself. Nami is becoming powerful and proving her worth as one of the main members of Straw Hat Pirates.

  • Role: Sniper

After Luffy befriended him and helped save his friend, Kaya, Ussop accepted the invitation to the Straw Hats to become a brave warrior of the sea like his father. His father was Yasopp (from Red Hair Pirates), and he mentioned Usopp to Luffy when he was a kid. Usopp’s friend Kaya gifted the Going Merry ship to Luffy, helping them kick off their journey to the Grand Line.

Usopp earned the God Usopp title with his luck and brave acts, making him more like the Buggy of the Straw Hat pirates. But after years, he has managed to become a highly skilled sniper with his Kabuto slingshot. He is also considered among the weaklings, but he is rising in power gradually. We hope to see Usopp’s power upgrades in the anime soon.

Sanji is the fourth member to join the Straw Hat pirates as the Cook at the end of the Baratie arc in One Piece. One of the important things for Luffy is obviously food, and he has the best chef in the world in his crew. Sanji dreams of finding All Blue, a sea legend that refers to the only place where the North Blue, South Blue, East Blue, and West Blue seas meet in the One Piece world. This was also the dream of Sanji’s mentor Zeff. So he decided to join Luffy’s crew in their adventures across the world to fulfill his dream.

Sanji is also a part of the monster trio alongside Luffy and Zoro and is the third strongest in the Straw Hat Pirates. Later, it was revealed that Sanji comes from the Vinsmoke family, as he managed to revive the genetic advancements that lay dormant inside him. He possesses incredible strength and is one of the excellent combatants of the Straw Hats crew. Also, he has a hefty bounty on his head right now as he defeated Queen, an all-star member of the Beast Pirates, during the raid.

Tony Tony Chopper is the fifth member to join the Straw Hat Pirates crew as the Doctor. Every crew needs to have a doctor on the ship. Chopper isn’t a human, but a reindeer. He got this human hybrid form after eating the Hito Hito no Mi devil fruit. Chopper aims to become the best doctor in the world and cure all incurable diseases by traveling around the world. So, like others, he joined Luffy’s crew to pursue his dream.

Chopper is a part of the weakling trio, alongside Ussop and Nami, and has a bounty of only 1,000 Berries. But don’t let these facts fool you of the great skills he possesses. Chopper has grown to become a great doctor and also helps a lot in fights with his monster capabilities. He has immense strength and willpower to overcome anything, and it’s only a matter of time before the World Government finds out his true powers.

  • Bounty:930,000,000 Berries

Nico Robin is the sixth member to become part of the Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece. She joined the crew as the archaeologist, and she did it surprisingly well too. Nico was first seen as an antagonist during the Arabasta arc but later joined the crew to pursue her dream of uncovering the history of the world, especially during the Void Century.

She is one of the only two members in the world who can read the poneglyphs. Since Luffy wants to reach the Laugh Tale and find the One Piece treasure, it cannot be done without the help of Nico Robin. So yeah, they both need each other to succeed.

Shockingly, Nico had a massive bounty of 79,000,000 berries even when she was a kid. Over time, she has grown into a bigger threat to the world government as she can read the poneglyphs. She has also increased her strength and has dangerous devil fruit powers at her disposal. Robin is a vital member of the Straw Hat Pirates and the whole crew went to rescue her from the World Government in the Enies Lobby arc.

8. Franky

Franky is the seventh member to join the crew as the Shipwright at the end of the Post-Enies Lobby arc. Similar to Robin, he was initially considered to be a villain of the Straw Hats, but he turned into an ally and made up for his mistakes by building an absolutely beautiful ship for the Straw Hats. He dreamt of building a ship and traveling all over the world on it, therefore, he accepted Luffy’s invitation to become a member of the crew.

Franky is an extremely talented guy and has created a lot of new inventions for the ship. Since he is a cyborg, he made super upgrades to his body and also invented vehicles and weapons for the Straw Hats crew in One Piece. Additionally, he also holds the blueprints of the ancient weapon Pluton, which is a big deal. Franky is rightfully known as the Iron Man of the Straw Hat Pirates.

  • Devil Fruit: Yomi Yomi no Mi (Revive-Revive Fruit)
  • Haki: Unconfirmed
  • Bounty: 383,000,000 Berries

Brook is the eighth member to join the Straw Hat Pirates as the Musician in the One Piece anime. He joined the crew at the end of the Thriller Bark arc as Luffy always wanted to have a musician in his crew. Brook ate the Yomi Yomi no Mi devil fruit, allowing him to come back from the dead. He was living alone for 50 years in the Florian Triangle, but luckily, he met Luffy on his voyage to Thriller Bark. And without hesitation, Luffy invited Brook to join them when he was only a skeleton roaming the seas.

Brook is a talented musician and an excellent swordsman when it comes to fighting. Moreover, he has some amazing devil fruit powers as well. Brook is the perfect example of a formidable veteran pirate whose experiences help the crew very much on their voyage. His dream is to meet Laboon (a giant blue whale) again and fulfill his promise.

  • Crew Debut: Episode 980, Chapter 976
  • Devil Fruit: None
  • Haki: Observation and Armament
  • Bounty: 1,100,000,000 Berries

Jinbe is the ninth member to join the Straw Hat pirates as the Helmsman. Among everyone else, Jinbe was the only one we waited years to join the crew. Luffy befriended Jinbe during the Impel Down arc and invited him during the Fishman Island arc. As Jinbe was an ally of the Big Mom Pirates, he had to cut ties with her and promised Luffy to join the crew in the Wano country.

This even became a popular meme among the One Piece fandom, in which Luffy says, I’ll be waiting for you at the Land of Wano!Jinbe finally reunited with the Straw Hat Pirates in the Wano arc and officially became the tenth pirate of the crew.

Just like Brook, Jinbe is also an experienced pirate and used to be a warlord of the seas. He is a Fishman with great pride, as everyone knows, and is extremely skilled at Fishman karate. He can combine his karate with haki to create powerful attacks. Continuing the theme, Jinbe’s dream is to stop the discrimination against Fishman and to create a world where Humans and Fishmans can co-exist in peace.

Former/ Future Straw Hat Members

In addition to the existing members, we have included those who were previously part of the Straw Hat Pirates or will join the crew in the coming arcs. Check out the former and future members of Luffy’s Straw Hat Pirates here:

1. Nefertari Vivi

Princess Nefertari D. Vivi

Nefertari Vivi was one of the most surprising additions to the Straw Hat pirates at the end of the Whiskey Peak arc. As the princess of the Arabasta Kingdom, she wanted to get her country back from Crocodile, the president of the Baroque Works organization. She worked as a spy there and joined the Straw Hat pirates when she was discovered. After the Straw Hats defeated the organization and restored peace in Arabasta, she chose to stay in her country and work for its welfare.

Although she chose to stay back home, Vivi is still considered a member of the Straw Hats in the hearts of fans, including ourselves. She is the only former member for now or can be called the unofficial member of the Straw Hats. [UPDATE] With the recent reveals, Vivi also has the initial D in her name (see more about the will of D here)

2. Carrot

Carrot in Wano

Before Yamato, there was a person who was a strong contender for becoming the next Straw Hat pirate, and it was our charming Carrot. She has been a part of the crew since the Whole Cake Island arc. It all started when she snuck on the ship and eventually became a strong person after the raid of Onigashima.

Since Straw Hats features a diverse set of characters from all over the world, fans hoped that Carrot would fill the role of a mink member in the group. But at the end of the raid, Carrot was announced as the new leader of her mink tribe.

It is highly unlikely that she will join the Straw Hats as she has to lead her tribe. But, with One Piece heading toward the final saga, she may join Luffy to support his endeavors in the final arc. She was just a temporary member of the Straw Hat Pirates, who was adored by the fans.

3. Yamato

Yamato in Wano
Image Courtesy: One Piece by Toei Animation Studios (X)

Ever since we saw Yamato in action, we expected him to be the next member of the Straw Hat Pirates. Yamato is similar to Kozuki Oden and no wonder she calls himself Oden too. Like how Oden went on adventures with the Pirate King Roger to Laugh Tale and many more places. Yamato is most likely to be the one who will join the future Pirate King Luffy.

We thought she would become a member by the end of the Wano arc, but unfortunately, she decided to stay to help Momonosuke and the others raise Wano back to glory again. Moreover, she still needs the blessing of the Straw Hat’s captain. Hopefully, Yamato will join the ultimate voyage of the Straw Hat Pirates soon.

4. Dr. Vegapunk

Dr. Vegapunk in Egghead

We thought that the Straw Hats pirate crew would be completed with the addition of Yamato. But One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda likes to keep surprising fans in the best way possible. In the recent manga chapters, we were introduced to Dr. Vegapunk. And he has made an unusual request to Luffy to let him board his ship.

The World Government has declared Vegapunk a threat and sent CP0 to Egghead Island. So, Dr. Vegapunk has decided to switch sides and join the Straw Hats in their journey toward the much-awaited Elbaf Island.

It’s worth noting that at the current moment, Dr. Vegapunk has not officially joined the Straw Hat Pirates crew, but he will likely become a temporary member in the upcoming manga chapters. This means we will soon have the smartest man in the world traverse the sea as part of the Straw Hats, adding incredible intellect to their already diverse group of members.

5. Jewelry Bonney

Jewelry Bonney post time-skip

Jewelry Bonney is one of the beloved characters that is being celebrated by the fandom now. Right now she is highly speculated to be joining the Straw Hats for a short time. She belongs to the Worst Generation Pirates, and a lot of her backstory has been revealed in the ongoing Egghead arc. It has now been confirmed that she is only 12 years old and yet she already has a massive bounty of 320 million berries.

So, what makes Bonney a great fit for becoming an apprentice or temporary member of the Straw Hat Pirates, you ask? It’s because her whole family is connected with Sun God Nika, and she has a lot of characteristic traits similar to Luffy. She is growing up to become like her mother, Ginny, in One Piece.

And if things go as we predict, she might board the Thousand Sunny to become a part of the Straw Hats for some time. I mean, Bonney fulfilling her father Kuma’s dream by fighting along with Nika (Luffy) would be a wonderful moment and make the story come full circle, wouldn’t it?

Who is the 11 member of Straw Hat Pirates?

Yamato is going to become the 11th member of the Straw Hat Pirates soon. We thought he would become one by the end of the Wano arc, but unfortunately, he stayed behind to help Momonosuke and the others raise Wano back to glory again. But Yamato is confirmed to be the unofficial 11th member of the Straw Hat Pirates.

How old is Luffy?

Currently, Luffy is 19 years old after the time skip in the One Piece manga and anime. The exact age details are currently unknown at this moment.

Who are the 10 Straw Hats?

Luffy, Zoro, Usopp, Sanji, Nami, Chopper, Nico Robin, Franky, Brook, and Jinbe are the 10 members of Straw Hat Pirates currently.
