Google has updated its privacy policy in line with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) laws which go into effect later this month. Google admits that privacy policies could be difficult to comprehend for the common man and in order to make them more layman friendly, the company has supplemented it with a bunch of video and illustrations.
According to a recent report from Engadget, the supplementary videos and illustrations explain key features of the updated privacy policy, help the user understand how the company uses their data and also explain how they can control the data collection on their end.
In the updated privacy policy page, Google explains:
“When you use our services, you’re trusting us with your information. We understand that this is a big responsibility and we work hard to protect your information and put you in control.
This privacy policy is meant to help you understand what information we collect, why we collect it and how you can update, manage, export, and delete your information.”
The company then goes on to explain, in detail, all the information it collects from its users and why it collects said information
The policy also highlights the privacy controls extended to the user and explains how the user has the choice to control the information collected by the company and how it’s used.
Additionally, the policy also explains how a user can keep their information secure, export or delete it whenever they want to. In my opinion, the updated policy is thoughtfully designed and gives users adequate information about how Google handles their data. We recommend that you head on to the updated policy page and go through the information for yourself, as it provides a thorough insight into how your data is being collected and used by the company. Also, in case you don’t feel comfortable with the way your data is being handled, the company also allows you to opt out of sharing your personal data.
