Top 10 Female Star Wars Characters (Ranked)

Star Wars is the franchise that ushered cinema into a brand-new era of Sci-fi. However, Star Wars was not just limited to this but also brought in some of the most influential female characters to our screens. Now this was quite a huge move back then since not a lot of franchises or movies brought in female actors as the main lead. So, in this article, let’s talk about the top 10 female characters in Star Wars.

10. Omega

Omega is the newest addition to the child cast of Star Wars. She made her first appearance in the very first episode of Star Wars: The Bad Batch and grew to become one of the most loved characters of all time. However, when her involvement was announced in the show people were kind of skeptical about it since the Star Wars franchise does not have a very good track record of portraying gripping child characters. The best we saw was in The Mandalorian and after that, Omega in The Bad Batch but other than that, it’s kinda meh.

The involvement of Omega adds a certain lightheartedness and brings out the emotional as well as human side of Clone Force 99. Along with that, the character development seen for Omega is one of the best in Star Wars. Witnessing a young, timid girl, turn into someone fighting alongside Clone Force 99 is truly a remarkable experience.

9. Sabine Wren

Sabine Wren is one of those female characters in Star Wars who have been around for quite some time. In the lore of Star Wars, Sabine Wren was a Mandalorian who belonged to the Wren tribe. Initially, she joined the Imperial Academy for which her clan shunned her but after some time, she fled from the academy and joined the crew of Ghosts as we witness in Star Wars Rebels.

When her people found out that she was fighting against the Empire they came to accept her back into their clan. Before Bo-Katan Kryze wielded the Darksaber, she was the one to use it. Her most recent appearance was in the first season of Ahsoka.

8. Jyn Erso

If you have watched Star Wars: The New Hope, the very beginning of the movie tells us that someone has stolen the plans for the Death Star. Rogue One brought us  Jyn Erso, played by Felicity Jones, the daughter of the scientist behind the creation of the Death Star. She was the one who stole those plans. Jyn was a member of the Rebel Alliance and she, along with a group of rebels stole those schematics for the Alliance which turned out to be the most daring heist in the Star Wars Lore. However, Jyn and her crew died executing this mission and for that, she deserves her spot on this list of the best female characters in Star Wars.

7. Mon Mothma

One of the most known and respectable characters among the Rebel Alliance is Mon Mothma. She played a major role in the original trilogy of Star Wars and was an important character in the destruction of the second Death Star. Mon Motham is played by Genevieve O’Reilly and her most recent appearance was in Ahsoka where she helped Syndulla from facing charges of disobeying direct orders.

6. Bo-Katan Kryze

In my opinion, one of the most awesome female characters in Star Wars I have ever come across is Bo-Katan Kryze. She made her very first live-action appearance in The Mandalorian. Bo-Katan has previously made her appearance in the OG animated Clone Wars. However, in Clone Wars she was mostly taken to be somewhat antagonistic. In the Mandalorian, she was seen leading a group of Mandalorians in a quest to retake Mandalore. Eventually, she became the last Mandalorian to wield the Darksaber. On top of that, her dynamics with Din Djarin and Grogu added a note of warmth to her character.

5. Rey Skywalker

Rey Skywalker

Rey was set up as the protagonist of the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy as a girl who is unaware of her strengths and her strong connection with the Force. If we talk about powers, Rey was unaware of her abilities but is easily one of the most powerful characters in the Star Wars lore. Her connection with the Force is as strong as we last saw with Luke Skywalker and at some points, even stronger than him.

However, her supernatural powers are not what makes her so special but the way her character went through a massive character development in the sequel trilogy was truly phenomenal. Her whole arc of letting go of what she wants to be, to what she is meant to be is very well done. Even though she is not related to the Skywalker bloodline, she took Luke, her master to be her father figure and took up the name of Rey Skywalker.

4. Hera Syndulla

Hera Syndulla made her first appearance as an animated character in Star Wars Rebels and as a crew member of The Ghost. She is an extraordinary pilot and she, along with her crew played a titular role in freeing Lothal from the tyranny of The Empire.

For her bravery and actions, she was promoted to being a General in the Rebel Alliance with her own squadron of fighters to command. Her live-action debut was made by Mary Elizabeth Winstead in Ahsoka. Her valor and the spirit to do the right thing no matter what makes her truly deserving of being called one of the best female characters in Star Wars.

3. Ahsoka Tano

Ahsoka Tano made her first appearance in Star Wars: The Clone Wars as a Padawan to Anakin Skywalker. She was a gifted and intellectual student but even after that, she was wrongly accused of Treason by the Jedi Council against the Republic after which, she left the Order. After this, she reappeared in Star Wars Rebels and aided the Rebel Alliance in the fight against the Empire. She supported the Ghost crew and proved herself to be a true Jedi.

Star Wars Rebels featured a moment showing us Ahsoka sacrificing herself in a duel against her former master, Anakin Skywalker who has now become Darth Vader. However, she survived her apparent death and then made her appearance in Ahsoka the first live-action series from Star Wars revolving entirely around an animated character

2. Padmé Amidala

Padme was the wife of Anakin Skywalker and the mother of Luke and Leia. This very factor tells us that without her, there would be no Star Wars at all. However, that is not all. Padme became the Queen of Naboo at the age of 14 and a member of the Republic Senate. She played an extremely important role in freeing her homeworld from Separatist clutches as witnessed in Phantom Menace.

However, the way she was presented in George Lucas’ live-action adaptations was very underwhelming compared to what we have read in the Star Wars books. Till the very end, Padme was the one who stood strong against tyranny and corruption and even had faith that there was some good left in Anakin after he turned to the Dark Side.

1. Leia Organa

No one else in the franchise can be given the title of the “best female character in Star Wars” other than Princess Leia. She was the daughter of Padme and Anakin Skywalker who was raised by the senator of Alderaan, Bail Organa. As she grew up, she joined the Rebel Alliance and was crucial in destroying the first Death Star. Now, she was not only a brilliant and fierce leader but also was strong in the Force.

She even underwent Jedi training for some time under her brother Luke. She was then seen in the Sequel trilogy as the leader of the Rebel alliance against the First Order which makes her the only female Rebel leader who has fought against all three Death Stars and standing victorious. Her character was finally laid to rest in Rise of The Skywalker, the final movie in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy.
