During his keynote speech on the first day of Facebook’s F8 2018 conference in San Jose, California, Mark Zuckerberg announced on stage that every delegate at the event will get an Oculus Go virtual reality headset for free.

The Oculus Go is Facebook’s first standalone VR HMD (head mounted device) that was formally launched at the event after being originally unveiled it at the OC4 (Oculus Connect 4) event last October. Following the launch, the device is now available for purchase from Amazon for $199.

The device features a 5.5-inch 60Hz display with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. It is powered by the Snapdragon 821 and comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage. The company will also offer a 64GB model for $249 in the future. It runs on Android Nougat 7.1.2.

The Oculus Go will also have access to just about the entire library of titles that available on the Oculus Rift and the Samsung Gear VR. However, unlike the Rift, the Go won’t come with a positional tracking technology, which means users won’t be able to lean into VR games and videos, potentially making the experience less immersive.

On the first day of F8 2018, Facebook announced several new policies and proposed quite a few changes to the way it runs the service. Many of those changes relate to data-privacy as well as the way third-party apps and services on Facebook can access user data. A whole host of changes were also announced for Instagram, WhatsApp, and other apps, services and platforms owned and operated by the company.
