Diablo 4 Classes Guide: Learn About All the Characters

Are you ready to visit the Sanctuary and clash with Lilith, the mother of demons? Well, to take on demons, you will first need to familiarize yourself with the different classes in Diablo 4. The game includes five classes at the time of launch, and each offers players a unique playstyle. Each of the classes has its distinct skills, passives, and ultimates that set them apart from one another. Many players have already experienced what’s in store in the beta tests before launch, but new players will need some time to familiarize themselves with a class in Diablo 4. With that in mind, in this article, we have discussed all the Diablo 4 classes, their abilities, and other important details related to them.

Diablo 4 Barbarian

Diablo 4 Barbarian

One of the legacy classes that have been in the game since the original Diablo, the Barbarian is a heavy melee-focused class. This class particularly favors players that enjoy brute strength and a large health pool. Like previous titles, Barbarians build Fury, which allows them to use powerful skill attacks during a skirmish with the armies of hell.

With the introduction of Diablo 4’s new Arsenal system, for the first time, the Barbarian class can equip a single-hand or double-handed weapon at the same time in that same build. Depending on the Fury skill, the Barbarian will switch their weapons, keeping the combat seamless and dealing increased damages.

Also, the first time for this class in Diablo 4 is that the Barbarian can now equip multiple legendary weapons at the same time, in the same build. This allows users to equip four total different legendary weapons. And thanks to the seamless weapon switching based on the Fury, the combat does not become overwhelming for players, allowing this to become one of the good classes to start the game with.

The Barbarians come with the following abilities for the players to shred the enemies with ease:

  • Berserking: While consistently attacking and getting attacked, Barbarians can enter into a berserking state. This results in increasing the movement and attack of the class for a set duration.
  • Bleed: Slash weapons from Barbarians’ arsenal causes bleeding to the enemies. This results in the enemies bleeding over time, which results in periodic damage until the bleeding doesn’t stop.
  • Walking Arsenal: As previously mentioned, Diablo 4 allows this class to carry multiple weapons at the same time in a single build. And this skill takes advantage of that. If a user equips various sorts of weapons, the damage and other
  • Unbridled Rage: Barbarian has an increased Fury cost for every skill that they can use. However, to make up for that, Barbarian skills are much stronger in the process. This results in them taking down their enemies more quickly.

Diablo 4 Rogue

New Diablo 4 Class Rogue

Rogue is a hybrid class in Diablo 4, much like its first iteration in Diablo. It can use close combat, and mix it up with ranged combat. If a player wants to focus on the melee side of things, Rogue can do it. If they prefer fighting from a distance, Rogue can do that too. Extremely agile compared to other classes, Rogue also features some class-specific questlines in Diablo 4.

One of the unique features of Rogue in Diablo 4 is the three class specializations that they have – Combo Points, Shadow Realm, and Exploit Weakness. When a player is running a Rogue with a melee build, they can pull enemies into a void space to kill them, thanks to the Shadow Realm specialization.

Combo Points, as the name suggests, allow Rogue to build points with each successive hit, dealing increased damage output in the end. The players can then spend those points on using skills. Finally, Exploit Weakness shows symbols that detail the attacks an enemy is weak to. So, players can then use this knowledge to their advantage and take out enemies more quickly. Rogue is a versatile player class that gamers who want to experiment can choose.

Rogue has the following abilities in Diablo 4:

  • Marksman: Rogue can kite and damage enemies from a distance using range weapons like crossbows and bows. Each hit has a chance of damaging the enemy critically and making them vulnerable. This then opens up the player to damage them further and kill them.
  • Imbuements: Players can imbue their weapons with poison, cold, and shadow energies. This results in the attack using that particular imbuement dealing with some special properties while damaging the enemies.
  • Traps: Rogue can lay traps around the ground to trap the enemies. Each of these traps can either slow down an enemy, damage them, poison them, and much more.

Diablo 4 Necromancer

Diablo 4 Necromancer

One of my favorite classes to play during the Diablo 4 beta was the Necromancer class, a staple in the series, and returning to the game for the fourth time. In this class, you can summon undead skeletal minions to do the heavy lifting of taking out enemies for you. At the same time, you can take advantage of blood magic to deal additional damage and wipe out groups of enemies within a matter of seconds. Diablo 4 Necromancer has some changes to the way the character is played.

Necromancer now has two main resources, Essence and Corpses. Essences are a regenerative resource that is used for casting a variety of magic spells in the game. This keeps regenerating, as your minions fight enemies. For a faster build-up, just go and have a hands-on fight session with the enemies yourself. The Corpses are the secondary resource, which is used to raise your undead armies. Not only that, you can use these corpses as traps using skills like Corpse Explosion to deal damage to enemies through the remains of their compatriots. It’s not a pretty sight.

Furthermore, there is the Book of the Undead in Diablo 4, which unlocks various classes of skeletons as you keep leveling up. Necromancer is incredibly satisfying to play and is a contender to become one of our favorite classes.

Necromancer has the following abilities for players to utilize:

  • Undead Army: As the name suggests, Necromancers can summon an undead army to help them during a battle. These include Skeletal Warriors, Mages, and after reaching level 25, a large Golem.
  • Bone: Necromancers can use Bone Magic to kill their enemies. Skills using the Bone often get increased power when the player has a large amount of Essence.
  • Darkness: Darkness wears down an enemy over time, slowly seeping out their lifeline. Skills utilizing Darkness are extremely important for crowd control against a horde of enemies, where they are kept away at a distance and die a painful death over time.
  • Blood: Blood utilizes Blood magic to provide defensive abilities to the users. Players can use this to reinforce their health, ensuring they do not die while fighting a horde of enemies.

Diablo 4 Druid

Diablo 4 Druid

Druids are the only shapeshifting class in Diablo 4, where they can change into large bear during fights. Druids are also the only class that carries two ferocious, yet adorable wolves beside them to the fights. When Druids are not annihilating enemies as a bear, they can utilize the elements in human form to assist them in fights.

Druid players can focus on their shape-shifting abilities or become a master of elements while leveling up their character. If both fancies you, the game gives you the option to do so. Druids are also great at dealing with single and multiple enemies because of their skill range. This makes them better than a Barbarian in some cases. Furthermore, Druid generates Spirit, which is used for powerful Spirit skills.

Druids have the following traits in Diablo 4:

  • Werewolf: Druids carry two Werewolves with them at their sides during the battle. They are agile and ferocious, and can critically strike enemies.
  • Werebear: Druid transforms into a Werebear, dealing AOE damages around an area. Furthermore, during this form, Druid becomes a tank, with enemies having difficulty taking them down.
  • Storm: Druid can use the Storm to bring down lightning upon the enemies, damaging them. Druids can also use wind from the storm to damage enemies.
  • Earth: Druid can use Earth to crowd control enemies, limiting enemy movement in the process.

Diablo 4 Sorcerer

Diablo 4 Sorcerer

The fifth and final confirmed class in Diablo 4 is the Sorcerer class. Sorcerers are adept at crowd-controlling and dealing elemental damage to the enemies, harnessing lightning, frost, and fire at will. One downside of Sorcerer is their paltry health pool, having the lowest out of the other classes in the game.

While the character has a low health pool, Sorcerer passively regenerates mana, and a fully-leveled sorcerer can shred enemies in a matter of seconds. Sorcerer is a high-skill character for players running her solo. However, she is a force to reckon with when using her with a party of players.

The Sorcerer comes with the following traits:

  • Frost: Sorcerer utilizes the frost element to freeze enemies, resulting in slower movement speeds. Continuous usage will further freeze them in one place.
  • Pyromancy: Sorcerer utilizes the fire element to deal burn and fire damages. Pyromancy-based skills deal damage over time, as enemies keep on burning.
  • Shock: Sorcerer utilizes the lightning to deal shock damage to the enemies. Skills utilizing the shock can deal critical damage to enemies.

While Diablo 4 welcomes the return of some of the fan-favorite classes, many other classes from previous Diablo games are not included in Diablo 4. These are:

  • Warrior (Diablo 1)
  • Assassin (Diablo 2)
  • Amazon (Diablo 2)
  • Paladin (Diablo 2)
  • Demon Hunter (Diablo 3, Diablo Immortal)
  • Crusader (Diablo 3, Diablo Immortal)
  • Monk (Diablo 3, Diablo Immortal)
  • Witch Doctor (Diablo 3)
  • Wizard (Diablo 3, Diablo Immortal)

It is worth noting that characters like Wizard are replaceable or comparable to Sorcerer. Even, an assassin, to some extent, is similar to Rogue. However, most of these characters are unique. Blizzard historically adds a new character in the game later in its life cycle, so we can expect one of these characters to return later.
