- There's an unofficial Netflix Wrapped similar to Spotify's annual recap.
- It shows a personalized report based on your viewing activity from Netflix.
- The report includes viewing time, most binged shows, favorite genres, and much more.
Like many of you, I eagerly wait for Spotify to drop their annual Wrapped so I can learn which new artists I’ve discovered and which songs I listened, even if they are the same as the year before. But I do wonder why video streaming platforms haven’t jumped on the opportunity to create their own wrapped yet.
I always wanted to find out how many reruns of The Office I’ve watched this year. Well, it seems like I don’t have to wonder anymore, as there is a way to see how you have been Netflix and chilling over the past year thanks to this unofficial Netflix Wrapped.
Learn Your Netflix Watch History
Yes, there is an actual way to see your annual Netflix recap using a third-party tool that goes by “Unofficial Netflix Wrapped”. It shows your most binged shows, how many episodes you have watched, and your total watch time. It’s by Kapwing, a video-editing platform. They have been doing this Netflix Wrapped thing for a couple of years now. But it’s just now that it has come to my attention.
But how do they do this? How can they know how many seasons of “Too Hot to Handle” I’ve watched? They take a creative route, asking you to download a copy of your Netflix viewing history and then upload it to their site. This ensures that your login information is secure. They even state that “your data is not uploaded to our servers nor stored for any reason”. Seems authentic, so let’s figure out how to get your own Netflix Wrapped.
How to Find Out Your Own Unofficial Netflix-Wrapped?
To get your Netflix Wrapped, you will need to download your viewing data first. For this, head over to Netflix.com on your PC browser and log in to your account. Now go to Account > Profiles > select your profile > Viewing activity. Here you will see a list of shows and movies you have watched. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click on Download all.
This will save all your activity in a .csv file. You now have to visit kapwing.com/netflix-wrapped and click on the red Import NetflixViewingHistory.csv button. Browse the .csv file you just saved and select it to upload it to the website. Once the upload is finished, your Netflix Wrapped will start to unravel itself.
So How Are The Results?
After going through all the steps, I finally got my Netflix Wrapped and I have to say, these guys did a pretty good job. The presentation itself makes it look pretty legit, just shy of a few transitions and animations. I hope someone from Netflix is taking some notes. But enough about the aesthetics, what does it actually say about my viewing habits? Let’s find out.
As you can see, the Wrapped starts by showing how much time you have spent on Netflix this year. Going from minutes to hours to days is a nice touch. It then takes you to how many shows and movies you’ve watched, followed by the “Show you binged the hardest”. I was honestly expecting it to be B99, but the Nisman documentary took the crown.
You then get to look at your favorite genre in shows and movies, which, to my surprise, was drama rather than comedy, which took the third spot. I know I watch a lot of thrillers, but I didn’t expect it to top the charts.
But after scrolling through it, I came across “Invalid Date Most Movies Watched”. I believe this should ideally indicate the day I watched the most movies. But it failed to retrieve the date, resulting in the invalid text. The Wrapped then showed me the highest and lowest-rated movies and episodes I have viewed, although I’m not clear where it got that score. Is it Rotten Tomatoes or IMDb? I suppose we’ll never know.
Finally, I landed on the most-watched TV show, which to no one’s surprise was Brooklyn 99 with 144 episodes including the reruns. This is something I can agree with because it is one of my favorite shows to watch while doing housework. What I disagree with is that I just saw one episode of Spy X Family, and I have no idea how it got to this number.
Now overall, this unofficial Netflix Wrapped was surprisingly quite fun and I would highly recommend you all to try it out. It does have a few inconsistencies, but I blame the data for it, and I guess Netflix themselves will have more accurate numbers. Honestly, Kapwing hit it out of the ballpark with this one and after trying it out, I can only hope that Netflix follows with the official version soon.
