Recently, we learned that the One Piece manga will be going on a three-week break after the release of chapter 1,111. This dampened the fans’ spirits who were having their time of life with exciting new revelations in the Egghead arc’s final moments. While the break was unexpected and disappointing, concerns over creator Eiichiro Oda’s health started to surface.

Now our concerns must have reached Oda sensei as he prepared a handwritten message to the fans, which explains the reason behind a nearly month-long hiatus for our beloved manga. Find out more about Oda’s message below.

Eiichiro Oda to Focus on Self-Care During Hiatus

The sorrowful news of Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama sensei’s passing took a huge toll on fans and mangakas (manga creators). One such fanboy is Eiichiro Oda, who has come forth and shared a handwritten message about how Toriyama sensei’s passing has deeply affected him. Manga creators often overwork and dedicate their lives to their art, overlooking their health.

With Kentaro Miura and Akira Toriyama’s passing, this has served as a wake-up call to many and made them prioritize their well-being over anything. Recently, Black Clover‘s creator Yuki Tabata did the same. Now, the same decision has been taken by Oda sensei, as he decided to go on a long break specifically for his “self-maintenance.”

Furthermore, Oda confirmed that this hiatus isn’t due to any illness and that he knows how his fans would be worried over prolonged breaks. In the end, he also joked and teased the fans, saying that he could finally think about “what the One Piece treasure is” during this period. You can find Oda’s full message here:

As many aren’t familiar with the Japanese language, you can find the English translations for Oda’s complete message shared by a fan (X/@pewpiece) below:

As much as we all want to witness the ongoing action onEgghead Island, we also want the creator to be in good health and celebrate every moment alongside fans. We are glad that Oda sensei made this decision to take care of himself and his family during this epic journey. So, we will patiently wait for the next chapter’s release while continuing to enjoy the ongoing Egghead arc in the anime.
