Jujutsu Kaisen: Is Gojo Satoru Really Dead in the Manga?

Spoiler Warning: This article contains significant spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 261, so be cautious.

Jujutsu Kaisen started as a straightforward manga series that featured curses and sorcerers who fought against them to protect humankind. However, the genius mangaka Gege Akutami quickly made fans realize that there is so much more to this story. Slowly, he started flooding the Jujutsu Kaisen universe with insane complexities.

For instance, in the final showdown between Sukuna and Gojo, when everyone was sure that the strongest sorcerer would win, we saw Sukuna as the last man standing. Ever since that fight, fans have been hoping to see Gojo making a return. Well, Chapter 260 hinted at his impending return while JJK Chapter 261 brought back Gojo but not in the way we expected. In fact, the latest events in the manga sort of confirm the dark fate of the beloved character.

Is Gojo Dead in Jujutsu Kaisen Manga?

Yes, sadly, Gojo Satoru is actually dead in the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, and we will not get to see our beloved sensei again, no matter what the speculative rumors state.

Since the very beginning of the series, we often witnessed Gojo showing overconfidence in himself. He used to say that whenever a showdown between him and Sukuna takes place, he will surely win as he is the world’s strongest sorcerer, and no one can defeat him. His students believed that there was no other Satoru Gojo who could kill the King of Curses, and no matter what, he would always guide and protect them.

In the final showdown with Sukuna, Gojo couldn’t stay true to the promise he made to his students. His battle with Sukuna wasn’t a brief one though. It commenced back in Chapter 223, titled Gojo vs. Sukuna, and ran until Chapter 236. However, Gojo wouldn’t have died if Sukuna hadn’t used one of the most powerful attacks, a world-cutting slash, along with Mahoraga and cut the mighty sorcerer’s body into two halves.

Gojo’s Body Exists; Used by His Beloved Student

After Gojo’s death, several speculations surfaced on the Internet, teasing his revival. In fact, Gojo’s comeback was teased by none other than Gege Akutami in Volume 26. Finally, the spoilers of JJK Chapter 261 show Gojo standing in front of Sukuna once again. However, the mindboggling twist is that it’s actually Yuta Okkotsu using Gojo’s body. The most potent student of Gojo will use his body to attempt to take down Sukuna using his Cursed Techniques.

This wouldn’t have been possible for Yuta if Rika had not consumed Kenjaku, giving Yuta a chance to use his technique of switching bodies.

Yuta himself was on the verge of dying so he used Kenjaku’s CT to switch bodies with Gojo. Gojo’s body was cut in half, but it was stitched back for this very purpose. Now that Yuta has taken over Gojo’s body, like how Kenjaku took over Geto’s body (read all about Gojo and Geto’s friendship). It sort of confirms that Gojo is, in fact, dead.

We’ll see Yuta using Gojo’s Six Eyes and Domain Expansion, and it will be like Gojo going against Sukuna all over again. But even though we’ll be seeing Gojo in the upcoming chapters, it’ll just be Yuta in Gojo’s skin. In short, Yuta is using Gojo’s body as a weapon, and our favorite sensei is now gone forever.

So will Gojo ever return in the manga or is his chapter in the world over? If the case is that he really won’t come back then I’m done with this series.
