Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has finally revealed the reception to GTA 6 pre-orders at the August 7 investor call. Zelnick described the GTA 6 pre-order sales as “exceptional”, “astronomical”, and “unprecedented.”
While Zelnick and his other Take-Two colleagues on the call didn’t exactly drop exact sales figures for GTA 6 pre-orders yet, he said, “We’ve received exceptional pre-order reception to GTA 6” towards the beginning of the investor call.
However, as the investor call moved to a Q&A section, Zelnick opened up a bit more about the pre-order sales for both GTA 6 Standard Edition and GTA 6 Ultimate Edition.
When asked whether Take-Two could reveal how many units have been pre-ordered for GTA 6 by an investor, Zelnick replied, “I’m not gonna tell you how many units we’ve sold, or we’re selling, but I’d say that the sales are unprecedented and astonishing and astronomical that we don’t know how to translate [that] into numbers [yet].”
But still, when investors continued to press Zelnick if Take-Two is celebrating the “unprecedented” GTA 6 pre-order sales, he said, “We’re not taking a victory lap about pre-order sales right now, but I’d say the numbers are that Take-Two or the entire industry has never seen before.”
That’s quite a massive claim coming from the chief of one of the world’s largest entertainment conglomerates. If Zelnick is to be believed, then GTA 6 may as well break the record of most video-game copies sold to date, which is 520 million units sold, held by Tetris.
However, given that Tetris was available across a variety of platforms, GTA 6 being a console exclusive for Xbox and PS5 would certainly impact that number.
While Zelnick continued to dodge questions about GTA 6 pre-order sales figures for Standard and Ultimate Editions, he confidently made one thing clear when he said, “We’re really excited about what the future is bringing for our colleagues and our company, and it will bring wonderful returns for our investors.”
