According to Mark Gurman, Apple Intelligence will miss its initial launch date to allow Apple some more time to address bugs. Apple will introduce Apple Intelligence through software updates by October, a few weeks after officially launching iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. The upcoming iPhone 16 series will likely launch without Apple Intelligence capabilities and will need a software update to access them at a later date.
According to Mark Gurman, Apple Intelligence will be free to start, but Apple's long-term plan is to make money off of the capabilities. We might see something like "Apple Intelligence+" with certain features locked behind a monthly subscription service. Apple Intelligence might either follow the current iCloud+ service and require a monthly subscription fee or become a part of the Apple One subscription. Apple might also partner with Google and Anthropic for their AI services.

At the WWDC 2024 event, the Cupertino giant introduced Apple Intelligence and announced ChatGPT integration into Apple devices. Elon Musk took to X and went on a tirade against Apple for integrating ChatGPT and threatened to ban all Apple devices at his companies. That said, it appears Musk's argument is misplaced as Apple has developed its own AI models. Only when Apple's AI model fails to come up with a proper response, it seeks the user's permission before routing the query to ChatGPT.
Apple has developed two capable AI models to power Apple Intelligence features on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. For on-device processing, there is a small 3B model, and for complex tasks, there is a large, server-class model. The smaller 3B model performs better than Microsoft's Phi-3-mini and Google's Gemma 2B and 7B models. And Apple's large server model does better than GPT-3.5 Turbo.
