5 Reasons Why You Should Start Watching One Piece Anime in 2024

Spanning across every medium, be it manga, anime, games, or live-action, One Piece has shattered every record to become the greatest pirate adventure. It’s all thanks to Eiichiro Oda’s masterclass in continuing the series for decades with more than 1,100 manga chapters and anime episodes.

I know that episode count can seem daunting at first glance. But, the pirate journey you undertake with Luffy and his Straw Hats nakama is worth all the salt in the sea. So, whether you are someone who got into One Piece with Netflix’s live-action adaptation or have had the show on your watchlist for the longest time, hear me out cus I have got five reasons why you should start watching the One Piece anime in 2024.

You must have heard others tell you how the One Piece anime stands out in all aspects such as the worldbuilding, legendary characters, exhilarating action sequences, phenomenal storytelling with twists, and even a comedic element. Since you might already know these, I won’t bore you with the same drivel and present some unique and compelling reasons to start watching One Piece. Without any further ado, let’s get to it, shall we?

5. The Final Saga Has Commenced in the Anime

One Piece has been going on for more than decades, so it’s natural that it has a lot of sagas (with an abundance of arcs in each) under its belt. Now, the anime has finally entered the Final saga, yes, we are in the endgame of One Piece now. The manga sailed to the Final saga long before.

However, after the conclusion of the longest-running arc in One Piece, i.e. the Wano Country arc, it is refreshing to have a slightly new art style in the anime as the Straw Hats set foot on the Egghead Island, kicking off the final saga with a bang in 2024.

Hence, most of you here would primarily prefer the anime over anything, right? Since the final saga has officially begun in the anime, it is wise to begin your One Piece journey right away. Because the culmination of all the events that led up to this is about to be unraveled to the anime-only fans, and you wouldn’t want to miss that out.

Sure, the anime is not going to end any time soon but the fact that you can take part in the finale of this epic pirate journey is the one you should consider.

4. The Box of Mysteries is Slowly Unraveling

So, as I said earlier, the final saga just commenced in the anime at the start of 2024. Just as we are about to witness the pinnacle of the culmination of all the sagas that have transpired so far, we will also get to see the box of mysteries starting to unfold one by one.

As a manga reader, I can confirm that several old mysteries are starting to surface in the Egghead Island arc, and Oda sensei is slowly beginning to answer them all for us, helping longtime readers and fans connect the dots.

One of the best highlights of One Piece is its underlying mysteries (I mean, we still don’t know what the One Piece is after 25+ years) that keep the fans on their toes. Eiichiro Oda is the most proficient mangaka when it comes to tying the mysteries together, and he will now slowly unravel the knots in the epic denouement of the series.

So, if you are someone who loves to watch mysteries building up and getting unveiled at the end in a spectacular fashion, it’s time to mark One Piece as watching on your watchlist right now.

3. Avoiding Major Spoilers is Becoming a Harder Challenge

You heard that right! As we set sail to witness the legendary conclusion to the One Piece story, the spoilers will be everywhere, and they will be difficult to avoid in today’s social media-driven world. Trust me on that, even though the Japanese officials have taken action against leakers recently, the spoilers are still distributed everywhere before we get our hands on the official chapter.

No matter how clever and ready you are to dodge the spoilers, it’s going to get only harder for you to not hear something about the show’s ending that’s fast-aproaching. We are left to tread on a spoiler mine now; any step can completely ruin your entire One Piece experience.

If you are someone who doesn’t mind getting spoiled, you are good to go. However, what makes the journey so special is the massive and story-rich world created by Oda sensei. Thus, getting spoiled about a character or an essential plot point can be excruciating as hell. So get on the ship and catch up to nakama like us.

2. New Mediums to Enjoy the Pirate Journey

If you are someone who complains about not being able to watch One Piece anime because of its gigantic episodes count, well, you have plenty of different mediums to try out in 2024.

  • First is the One Piece manga. If you are an avid manga reader like my Editor, you can either pick up the physical or digital copy and begin your journey. The manga is well-paced (there are no One Piece fillers there) and the art is equally good as the anime. So, you can also start your journey with the manga and catch up in no time.

Pro Tip: If you have decided to start the manga, a pro tip I can give it to you is that you can juggle between the manga and anime. You can switch to anime for some of the best arcs in One Piece to experience the action in all its glory. Next, you can switch back to the manga and resume your reading adventures. This way, you can speed up your One Piece consumption experience.

  • Next, we have the One Piece remake coming up shortly by WIT Studio. This series is highly expected to fix all the pacing issues of the original and offer a more fluid watching experience. But keep in mind that you can still get spoiled from anywhere while you wait for the remake.
  • The final option is the One Piece Live-Action series by Netflix (review) which garnered the attention of longtime fans and newcomers last year. The live-action doesn’t recreate everything the same as the source material but remains faithful to it in its own way.

I won’t recommend the One Piece live-action option personally. However, if you love watching live-action shows over other mediums, then it might be for you. Only one season of the live-action series has been released at the time of writing.

This is a quote from the protagonist, Luffy in the show where he talks about how he doesn’t want to get spoiled about his adventures. The same applies to the fans as well.
