Pokemon GO is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a special reward for its players. Trainers across the world can claim a perfect Mewtwo in Pokemon GO and a Master Ball for free through a special Timed Research event which is currently underway.
The announcement was made in a YouTube video by Niantic, thanking players for being a part for Pokemon GO for 10 years now.
However, coming to the rewards, the free Mewtwo comes with a special background and could be upgraded to Mega Mewtwo Y with its third Mega level unlocked. If you don’t already know, Mega Mewtwo Y is the strongest Psychic-type Pokemon in the game.
But when it comes to getting the Mewtwo in Pokemon GO through the 10th anniversary event, it’s fairly simple. Trainers need to complete the free timed research that you’ll be able to spot under ongoing Pokemon GO events. Once completed, it will grant an encounter with a perfect Mewtwo guaranteed to have maxed-out stats.
However, the timed research will not stay around forever in Pokemon GO. Players need to finish the tasks and claim their rewards by September 6, 2026, at 11:59 PM local time.
Devs have also revealed that trainers who already caught Mewtwo during the July 9 Times Square event will receive a different version with enhanced stats and rewards, alongside a Mewtwo with a Times Square background in the future.
Additionally, players can also acquire a Master Ball from the 10th anniversary Pokemon GO event. To obtain a Master Ball, players have to simply catch 10 Pokemon. Master Ball is particularly useful because it guarantees a Pokemon catch. It can be especially handy for some of the rarest Pokemon in Pokemon GO.
