Update: Reliance Jio has taken down the JioTV website. According to Jio’s Priority Care, the website has been taken down due to “technical litigation” issues and they don’t have a date as to when the website will be back.
After appeasing the Indian masses with its widespread 4G VoLTE services, Reliance Jio is now planning to dominate the live streaming ecosystem as well. The company has quietly debuted its JioTV streaming platform on the web, making it even simpler for users to be able to binge on TV shows without the need for Jio’s mobile network.
JioTV is one of the many popular apps among the suite of Jio apps that the company has made available since the launch of its mobile network, which completely altered the state of mobile Internet services, in India. It collected all major TV networks of the nation under one roof and made it easier for users to watch them on the move. But, the company is no longer satisfied with its reach and wants to attract more consumers to the live TV watching platform with the launch of JioTV on the web.
Watching your favorite TV shows live on JioTV for free is extremely simple. All you need to do is navigate to the JioTV website and log into the platform with your Jio ID and password to get started.
This means you can either use your e-mail ID or Jio number you registered when buying the SIM to watch TV the web platform. If you do not remember the same, these details can be found inside the MyJio app.
Once you’re in, you’ll notice that the user interface of the JioTV web platform is not much different from the mobile app. The website offers you access to a wide variety of live TV channels, divided into categories such as entertainment, news, sports, and movies. It then provides you the option to filter out TV channels on the basis of picture quality (SD or HD) and preferred regional language.
“The highlight feature of JioTV will have to be Catch-up TV feature that allows you to watch the content from any TV channel for the past seven days”
So, this sounds like the perfect opportunity to give JioTV another shot if you had shunned the service on your mobile device in the past. You can binge on your favorite TV shows in real-time via any browser on the desktop PC or laptop. The huge collection of TV channels available on the platform is good enough to please everyone and keep them hooked. The JioTV website will offer a tough competition to other similar platforms like Hotstar, Voot, and others, who’re also trying to break into the live streaming ecosystem.
Also, if you were unaware, this is not the first Jio app to get a web variant. JioCinema, the movie-oriented platform from the company was the first among its varied suite of apps, to get a similar treatment. Though JioCinema’s movie catalog isn’t quite impressive, JioTV, on the other hand, includes every major TV channel and could deter the growth of existing live streaming platforms in India. So, are you excited to watch the TV shows you missed on the web using JioTV? Let us know your opinion on this launch in the comments down below.
