Ask any Helldiver, and the name Malevelon Creek will give them war flashbacks. This pesky planet has become infamous for its heavy Automaton presence and ruthlessness. The game’s developers recognize the same and have dedicated a day as the Malevelon Creek Memorial Day by Presidential Decree. As part of the day, all Helldivers will get a free special commemorative cape. Want to know what it is and how to claim it? Well, let’s talk about that.

What Is the Malevelon Creek Cape?

On February 15, 2024, Helldivers 2 posted a video on X (formerly Twitter). In it, it issued one of the game’s first major orders. The task was to relocate the reinforcements from the Terminid campaigns to the Automaton-infested planets and liberate them. When players went into these planets thinking the difficulty would be similar to that of the Terminid planets, they were taken aback.

Automatons were a much more formidable group of enemies in Helldivers 2. Lasers flew randomly, and rockets kept hurtling, resulting in a much more chaotic experience. The community even started dubbing it the “Robot Vietnam” for its chaos.

Unfortunately, Malevelon Creek became one of the first planets players managed to lose. From that day onwards, players remembered their comrades’ sacrifices and the Creek as a site of spilled blood. As such, the President of Super Earth issued a commemorative cape meant to signify the sacrifice of the Helldivers who fell in battle. Malevelon Creek Commemorative Cape: How to Claim

While the Malevelon Creek Commemorative Cape is fully free to claim, you won’t likely find it anywhere. That’s because Helldivers 2 does not provide direct pop-ups for it.

Thankfully, the game has already claimed it for you. All you need to do is log into the game and head into your Armory. Head to the Cape section, and you will find one named “Fallen Hero’s Vengeance.” This is the free Malevelon Creek Cape that must be respected. The cape itself is clean and has a dual-tone black and white design. Adorning it all in the middle is a Red Helldiver skull logo.

If you can’t see the cape yet, don’t worry, as it will show up sooner or later. Furthermore, you don’t need to have fought the Automatons themselves to get the cape, so you will find it in your inventory nonetheless.

We don’t know how long the cape will be available. However, since it is a commemorative item, it should stay in your inventory by default. The cape also fits the game’s themes of hyper-obsession with Democracy and the will to serve Super Earth.
