Spotify Lyrics Not Working? Try Out These Fixes!

Spotify lyrics are an absolute lifesaver and can help you understand and vibe to songs better, especially in those languages that you’re not familiar with. However, if you’re here, the lyrics feature is probably not working for you, and you’re annoyed out of your mind. From a weak internet connection to just an in-app glitch out, there are n number of reasons behind this. So, to help you out, I’ve curated a comprehensive list of fixes for your Spotify lyrics not working problem. Let’s get to it right away!

Method 1: Check If You Have Spotify Premium

In case you’re coming back to Spotify after a while, if you’re unaware, Spotify has removed Lyrics from its free version. Yes, you heard that right. So, if you’re getting hit with “Couldn’t load the lyrics for this song error” even for popular tracks like Starboy, it’s time to get Spotify Premium or avail the Spotify student discount if you’re eligible.

Or, maybe just find a Spotify alternative that works for you. On desktop, the Spotify free version is rather direct and locks lyrics behind a bolded-out “Enjoy lyrics on Spotify Premium” banner.

Method 2: Give Another Track a Try

If you’ve got your hands on Premium and are still unable to get lyrics, chances are that Spotify doesn’t even have lyrics in its database for that particular track. Spotify doesn’t have the lyrics to a lot of songs, especially underrated ones.

So, if you’re someone who likes to listen to super niche and underrated artists like me, Spotify’s lyrics system will probably fail you. Try popular tracks, and if it’s working for those, it’s a simple case of too-underrated-for-lyrics.

Method 3: Check If Spotify Is Down

A lot of times, while the Spotify mobile app may work, the web version doesn’t respond at times. We use DownDetector (website) to keep a tab on the music streaming service’s server status. If you visit DownDetector and find that the service itself is down, that’s understandably the reason your Spotify lyrics are not loading up.

Method 4: Sign Out of Every Device and Sign Back In

Just like how a simple restart will fix most of your PC and phone problems, a quick log out and log back in should solve your Spotify lyrics not working issue. If that doesn’t solve it, you may need to take a harsher step and sign out of everywhere on the platform. Chances are that you have a tad too many devices running the same Spotify account and that’s glitching the app out.

You can only do this on the web version of Spotify. So, once you are on a PC, follow these steps:

  1. Head over to Spotify web, sign in to your account, and click on your profile picture at the top right.

  1. Then, select Account and go to Security and privacy > Sign out everywhere.

  1. Click on Sign out everywhere on the next page, and that’s it!

Next, simply sign back in on the device that you want to see lyrics on, and it should be working again. Spotify also lets you know that, “It can take up to 1 hour for sign out to take effect on the web player”.

Method 5: Clear Spotify App Cache

If the Spotify lyrics not working issue is limited to solely your mobile app, then a quick uninstall and reinstall should help. If that doesn’t, you may want to clear your Spotify app’s cache and data. Since time immemorial, Android users have been enjoying this quick fix for apps. iPhone users can offload apps to not just free up space, but fix central issues with apps.

If you’re unaware about the process to delete your Spotify app’s cache and data on Android, here are the steps:

  1. Head over to your phone’s Settings app and tap on the Apps panel.
  2. Here, navigate to App management > Spotify.

While we’ve used an Android 14-based OxygenOS 14-running device to showcase the steps, it shouldn’t be too different across other Android skins. The primary objective is to find the App Management panel. From thereon, the steps will be similar.

That brings us to the end of this guide, and I hope these fixes are an answer to your Spotify lyrics not working problem. If that’s not the case, finding a good Spotify alternative is your final resort. Moreover, with Spotify gradually stripping its free version of features and putting them behind Premium, it’s anyway not the ideal platform if you don’t want to pay up.
