BSNL Launches New Prepaid Plans to Counter Jio

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has launched a slew of new prepaid plans. The new plans, which cost as low as Rs 118, are pitted against plans from rival Reliance Jio, that currently offer some of the lowest data rates in the country.

According to a report from The Mobile Indian, the cheapest new plan from BSNL directly competes with the Rs. 98 pack from Jio and offers 1GB of 3G data per day for a period of 28 days. The pack also includes unlimited calling, however, it’s only available for BSNL subscribers in the Tamil Nadu circle. In contrast, the Rs. 98 pack from Jio offers a total of 2GB 4G data for 28 days, but also includes 300 text messages and access to Jio apps.

Other new offerings from BSNL include a Rs. 379 plan which offers 4GB 3G/4G data per day along with 30 minutes of free BSNL-to-BSNL voice calls every day with a validity of 30 days. The Rs. 379 plans is only available in the Kerala circle. In comparison, Jio offers Rs. 349 and Rs. 399 plans with 70 and 84 days validity, respectively. Both the plans from Jio offer 1.5GB of 4G data per day along with unlimited voice calls. BSNL has also introduced a Rs. 551 plan for the Kerala circle which offers 1.5GB of 4G data per day.

For the Mumbai and Delhi circles, BSNL has introduced a Rs. 444 plan which comes with a 60-day validity and offers 1.5 GB 4G data per day along with 200 minutes of free calls every day. A Rs. 485 plans has also been announced for the same circles, which offers 1GB of 4G data per day for a period of 90 days. BSNL has also changed its Rs. 666 plan for the Kerala circle, which now offers 1GB data per day along with unlimited voice calls, including roaming, and 100 text messages per day for a period of 129 days.
