Here’s How Asus 6z’s Cool Panorama Feature Works (with Camera Samples)

asus 6z launched in India - asus zenfone 6

Asus has launched its brand new flagship, the Asus 6z, in India, at an event held in New Delhi today. The new phone comes with a bunch of exciting specs and features, including the latest Snapdragon 855 processor, and a completely bezel-less display without any notch or punch-hole marring the immersive-feeling of staring at the phone. This, Asus achieved with its rotating camera tech which makes the rear camera flip up to become the front camera when needed.

That opens up a world of possibilities – you get 48MP selfies, the ability to record 4K videos in selfie mode (great for on-the-go vloggers, I’d say), and more. However, Asus made the flip camera even better by not only making it motorized, but letting users set it at any angle they want, enabling some incredible perspectives. This motorized flip camera also powers the 6z’s new panorama feature.

Why do I call it a “new” panorama feature? Well, since the phone comes with a motorized flip camera, Asus uses this to its advantage to make the phone take a panorama on its own by simply flipping the camera slowly – this means, you don’t have to move your hand and try to keep it in the same line-of-movement to get a great panorama, you can simply hold your phone (or better yet, place it on a tripod), and activate the panorama feature; the Asus 6z will automatically move the camera module to take a seamless panorama, while you can sit back and enjoy the view.

We used the 6z’s panorama feature quite a bit, and here are some camera samples, so you can see what panoramas from the phone look like.

The panoramas have been resized for the web, but you can view full size images here.

Clearly, the Asus 6z’s panorama feature is pretty impressive, but that’s not the only cool new camera feature in the phone – the 6z can now track subjects in videos as well. That’s amazing, right? So what do you think? Do you like Asus’ implementation of panoramas in the 6z, or do you think it’s just a gimmick? Let us know!
