Android TV Not Showing in Google Home? Here Are the Fixes

In the IoT ecosystem, often, it takes more time to make a smart device work than a dumb device. Take an example of Android TV that frequently disconnects from Google Home and does not show up in the app. Users report that even when the internet works fine, Android TV can’t find Google Home and it makes the smart experience very frustrating. So if your Android TV is not showing up in Google Home and you want to fix the issue for once and all then you have come to the right place. Just follow our guide below and you will have the issue resolved.

Android TV Not Showing in Google Home? Find All the Solutions

1. Before anything, you must ensure that the Google account added to your Android TV is the same as the one linked to your smartphone. Unless the linked accounts are the same, Android TV won’t show up in Google Home.

2. To check your Google account on Android TV, move to Settings -> Accounts and Sign-in. Here, you can check the Google account and also add a new one.

5. After that, select “New Device” and let it search for your TV. Once it finds your TV, tap on it and you will be able to add your Android TV to the Home app. Keep in mind, for manual setup, both your smartphone and Android TV should be connected to a common WiFi network.

8. One of the main reasons why Android TV can’t find Google Home is the inability to access the location. So to grant the location permission, tap and hold on Google Home and open “App Info”. Next, open “Permissions” and make sure “Location” permission is granted.

9. Also, turn on the location of your Android device. Open Settings -> Location -> Turn on the toggle.

11. If the above steps fail then you can hard reset your Android TV and make a fresh start. On the setup page, add the correct Google account and then your Android TV will show up on Google Home. The problem with connecting to my Android TV was due to “Nearby device scanning” being OFF on my phone.
I have no idea how the above happened and probably wouldn’t have worked it out if I hadn’t found your instructions which enabled me to eliminate all other possible issues.
So, thank you for the clearest and most helpful instructions I found on the internet to address this issue!
After following through to (including) Step 10 and even restating my Modem, the Home app on my phone wasn’t finding the Android TV OR the Chromecast on a different TV (previously it was only the Android TV that was the problem. I tested whether any other devices could ‘see’ the TV/Chromecast and they could. Hence I checked all the possible settings on my phone.
Open phone settings>Connections>More Connection Settings>Nearby device scanning – this was turned OFF, turn ON
    Problem solved!
If I hadn’t found your instructions, I probably would have continued to make useless attempts to fix it because I thought it was the Android TV!

This didn’t work. Not surprised as all my Google products are frustrating me at this point. Nothing works like it did 2 years ago. Not Android auto, not Google home not my pixel… It’s disappointing to say the least. I’d switch to Alexa but the thought of putting more money into Besos pocket infuriates me even more.

  • Melissa says:

Uninstalling the updates broke my tv, it crashed and now won’t turn on

  • Sudhanshu Singh says:

    Hi Beebom,

Just to let you know that this actually worked for my Tv I bought in February.

I have Motorola Revou 55 (SAUHDMG) and It was not being detected by Google Home. I did TV reset twice and even App reset but never worked despite having my location ON at all times and even permissions were sorted with couple other threads I read about.

But this guide and steps order got mine sorted! Specially tge removal of Updates on Tv’s Google app.
    Thank you
