- A third-party website, worksonwoa.com, maintains a list of Windows games playable on ARM-based Snapdragon X series PCs.
- The website is maintained by Linaro. Qualcomm and Microsoft have also contributed to the website.
- Currently, big titles like Fortnite, PUBG, and Roblox are unplayable on next-gen Copilot+ PCs.
At Build 2024, Microsoft and Qualcomm revealed a website where you can find your favorite Windows games and check whether they can be played on the new Copilot+ PCs, powered by the ARM-based Snapdragon X series processors. The website, worksonwoa.com, is maintained by Linaro, an open-source organization that deals with the ARM ecosystem. Microsoft and Qualcomm have also contributed to the website.
By the way, users can also contribute to the “Works on Windows on Arm” project after testing games on the WoA (Windows on ARM) platform. There are four categories of gaming compatibility.
- Perfect: Windows games run at 60+ FPS at 1080p resolution. (Around 700+ games)
- Playable: Windows games run at 30+ FPS at 1080p resolution. (Around 1400+ games)
- Runs: Windows games run, but may have some issues. (Around 200+ games)
- Unplayable: Windows games don’t run currently. (Around 19 games)
Microsoft says currently 1200+ Windows games are playable on ARM-based Copilot+ PCs, delivering 30FPS at 1080p resolution. Apart from that, you can also discover gaming titles that support Automatic Super Resolution, an AI feature on Windows 11 24H2 that upscales the frame rate while maintaining detailed visuals. Keep in mind that this feature is exclusive to Snapdragon X series PCs currently.
To find the compatibility status of my favorite gaming titles, I launched the website and searched for Apex Legends, Elden Ring, and Rainbow Six Siege. However, the website couldn’t find the games in its repository. Next, I searched Valorant, and it showed that the game is currently unplayable on Snapdragon X Elite and Plus processors. It was last tested in November 2023.
After that, I looked for Red Dead Redemption 2 which was Playable, Forza Horizon 3 runs with some glitches, and God of War runs out of the box. At the event, Microsoft demonstrated that Baldur’s Gate 3 and Borderlands run at 30 FPS with Auto SR enabled. Overall, it seems a long way before you can play your intensive gaming titles on ARM-based Adreno GPU.
I found some games which are currently unplayable on Snapdragon X series processors. The list includes Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Diablo Immortal, Fortnite, Half Life, League of Legends, PUBG Battlegrounds, Microsoft Solitaire Collection, Roblox, NBA 2K24, and more.
Microsoft has developed a compatibility layer called Prism, similar to Apple’s Rosetta 2, that will allow users to run x86 apps and games to run on ARM-based PCs seamlessly. Earlier, a Qualcomm engineer said that Windows games will just work on Snapdragon X Elite.
However, games that rely on anti-cheat techniques might not run on new-gen AI PCs. At the event, Microsoft did say that BattlEye anti-cheat system now supports ARM, but we will have to wait for it to materialize.
