Wikimedia Foundation announced on their blog that they have raised a record-breaking $20 million from more than 1 million donors in nearly every country in the world.
According to them it was the most successful campaign ever, since the campaigns for donations began in 2003.
The number of donors has increased ten-fold since 2008 and the total amount raised in the campaign has risen to over $20 million from $4.5 million.
Though Wikimedia’s 2011-12 planned spending is $28.3 million. Bulk is raised in annual fundraiser and rest comes throughout the year via different institutions.
