OnePlus has been putting out some great phones in recent years, and one of their latest offerings which the company has been teasing for a while, the OnePlus 12, is finally official in China. Now that the phone has landed in China, in this article, let’s look at everything you need to know about the OnePlus 12 if you’re eyeing it.
OnePlus 12 Key Specifications
There are three main upgrades from the OnePlus 11, the display, performance, and battery life. OnePlus 12 boasts a BOE-made X1 2K OLED display measuring 6.82 inches in size and 1440 x 3168 pixels resolution, capable of going as bright as 4500 nits, making it the phone with the brightest display in the market. It is an LTPO display capable of bringing down the refresh rate as low as 1Hz. The OnePlus 12 display is A+ certified by DisplayMate, meaning it has great color accuracy and brightness.
The performance is also being bumped this year thanks to the 8 Gen 3 from Qualcomm. We have compared the same to other contenders in the market such as Apple’s recent A17 Pro and Qualcomm’s 8 Gen 2 itself, and the 8 Gen 3 offers significant performance improvements thanks to the improved core structure. Qualcomm claims that the 8 Gen 3 is 30% faster than the 8 Gen 2.
The battery is also getting a significant bump to 5,400 mAh from 5,000 mAh on the OnePlus 11. The charging speeds, however, remain the same at 100W; although, one of the features returning this year is wireless charging capped at 50W, which was exempted from OnePlus 11 last year. It also has 10W reverse wireless charging for fueling up other devices and accessories.
The base variant of the OnePlus 12 comes with 256GB storage coupled with 12GB RAM. It remains to be seen if this will also be the case with the global units, but it’s good news for consumers nonetheless. Besides, the phone will also come in 16GB /512GB, 16GB/1TB, and 24GB /1TB variants.
The primary camera of the OnePlus 12 is a 50MP wide Sony LYT-808 sensor, whereas the secondary is a 48MP ultrawide Sony IMX 581 sensor, the same as the OnePlus 11’s ultrawide sensor. The periscope lens, however, is getting an upgrade from 48MP on the OnePlus 11 to a 64MP omnivision OV64B unit capable of zooming up to 3X without losing quality.
Another underrated upgrade is the Type-C port, which is now USB 3.2 Gen 1 compared to USB 2.0 last year. This not only brings faster data transfers but also display-out capabilities. The OnePlus 12 runs Android 14-based ColorOS 14 out of the box in China. The global unit should arrive with OxygenOS 14.
Amongst new additions in the features are a new Rain touch technology that allows you to use the One Plus 12 even in rain and a new X-axis linear motor for haptics AAC Technologies (CSA+ 0916) Bionic vibration motor codename Megatron.
As for the colors, the China launch mentions three colors: Leave blank (white), green, and Iwaguro (black). The base OnePlus 12 variant with 12GB RAM and 256 storage costs Yuan 4,299 (~$606) in China, whereas the top-end variant with 24GB RAM and 1TB storage costs Yuan 5,799. There’s no word regarding the Global pricing yet.
The OnePlus 12 will hit the shelves of both offline retailers and online Chinese e-commerce giants like Alibaba starting December 10.
