Note: We have created this Admirals ranked list, including all the current and former admirals in the history of the Marines. Look out for a surprise bonus in the end. Also, this article has spoilers for the story of One Piece, and the powers of individual characters.

1. Sengoku

An image of Sengoku in One Piece.
  • Debut: Episode 151, Manga Chapter 234
  • Roles: Admiral (former), Fleet Admiral (former), Inspector General (currently)
  • Devil Fruit: Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Daibutsu (Human-Human Fruit, Model: Buddha)
  • Haki: Armament, Observation, and Conqueror’s Haki

Sengoku aka Sengoku the Buddha used to be a powerhouse of an Admiral back in his day. He was one of the most important characters during the Roger era, alongside Garp and Tsuru. He had a great career in the Marines and is now working as an Inspector General after his retirement.

After Garp, Sengoku is the next best product of the Marines. He was so impressive in terms of power that even Pirate King Roger regarded him highly and mentioned that Garp and Sengoku are the only ones who he considered worth fighting.

That is why Sengoku deserves the top spot on this list more than anyone else. Moreover, he ate the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Daibutsu, a colossal Zoan-type devil fruit that allowed him to turn into a gigantic golden Buddha. He can produce ultimate attacks like giant punches, tremendous shockwaves, etc. Along with this, he is the only former Admiral to have all three types of Haki.

Thus, a legendary character like Sengoku should not be overlooked, and he is the strongest Admiral we have seen to this date. Although, we believe Akainu can take over his spot sometime in the future.

2. Akainu

  • Debut: Episode 278, Manga Chapter 397
  • Roles: Vice Admiral (former), Admiral (former), Fleet Admiral (currently)
  • Devil Fruit: Magu Magu no Mi (Magma-Magma Fruit)
  • Haki: Armament and Observation Haki

There is no other character who is more hated and despised by the One Piece fanbase than Sakazuki. Popularly known as Akainu (Red Dog) is an absolute monster of an antagonist in this franchise. He is completely ruthless with his devastating devil fruit powers and haki abilities. Akainu is an extremely fearsome character, not only among the Pirates but also among the Marines. He showcased his destructive powers in the Marineford War against powerful characters like Whitebeard, Ace, Jinbe, Marco, etc.

He also came out on top as the winner in his battle with Aokiji, which sealed his Fleet Admiral position. His devil fruit is among the most powerful devil fruits in existence as it enables him to manipulate magma at will. He can also utilize two forms of Haki and is a serious threat in the entirety of One Piece. It is likely that Luffy will face Akainu during the final battle, and we don’t who will emerge as the victor. But we do know that we will see Luffy’s Gear 5 technique in action again.

3. Aokiji

  • Debut: Episode 225, Manga Chapter 303
  • Roles: Admiral (former)
  • Devil Fruit: Hie Hie no Mi (Ice-Ice Fruit)
  • Haki: Armament and Observation Haki

Kuzan, who is widely known as Aokiji (Blue Pheasant), used to be a part of the OG trio of Admirals, but he resigned from the Marines and is now a member of the Blackbeard Pirates. Did you know that he was the first ever Admiral we were introduced to back in the climax of the Long Ring Long Island arc? He encountered the Strawhat Pirates in the same.

He is the second favorite Admiral among many fans, and one of the righteous guys before we saw Fujitora. Aokiji possesses some freaking cool devil fruit powers (pun intended!). He ate the Hie Hie no Mi fruit, which enables him to generate and control ice at will. The Admirals always have a mighty devil fruit, right?

Even Sengoku wanted this man to become the next Fleet Admiral, but Aokiji lost his battle against Akainu, which is one of the key reasons he resigned. During the Marineford War, he was able to heavily injure Jozu of the Whitebeard Pirates and hold his own ground against the mighty Whitebeard. He is the only devil fruit user who can completely neglect the weakness of devil fruits by freezing the whole sea. Aokiji is also an expert when it comes to Haki and has mastered the powers of his devil fruit. With that said, Kuzan’s powers are really scary, and he definitely belongs in the top 3 on our list.

4. Kizaru

  • Debut: Episode 398, Manga Chapter 504
  • Roles: Vice Admiral (former), Admiral (currently)
  • Devil Fruit: Pika Pika no Mi (Glint-Glint Fruit)
  • Haki: Armament and Observation Haki

Borsalino aka Kizaru (Yellow Monkey) is the only Admiral left in the OG trio. He has been a menace whenever he is on the screen, right from the Saboady Archipelago arc (see all the One Piece arcs in order here). Like all the other Admirals, Kizaru also holds one of the most powerful devil fruit powers, Pika Pika no Mi, which makes him become lightweight and control it in his will. It also makes him the fastest being on the planet as he is capable of moving at the speed of light.

When Kizaru was first introduced, his name was enough to send shivers down the pirates’ spines in Saboady. He was easily able to defeat Basil Hawkins, Urouge, X Drake, and Scratchmen Apoo with a single attack. He was completely overpowered against Straw Hats and was able to smoothly fight against the right-hand man of the Pirate King, Silvers Rayleigh.

And later, during the Marineford War, fans know how much serious damage he dealt to Marco and even Whitebeard. Kizaru is inarguably one of the strongest Admirals to ever exist and with his versatile powers, he is coming to Egghead Island (an ongoing arc), which will turn the world of One Piece upside down.

5. Fujitora

  • Debut: Episode 630, Manga Chapter 701
  • Roles: Admiral
  • Devil Fruit: Zushi Zushi no Mi (Press-Press Fruit)
  • Haki: Armament and Observation Haki

Issho better known by his alias Fujitora (Wisteria Tiger) is another powerful Admiral who was promoted by the World Government to fill in the vacancies along with Ryokugyu. It should be noted that despite being fully blind, he received this honor. Doflamingo also mentioned him as a formidable monster in the Marines. Fujitora has the amazing devil fruit power of Zushi Zushi no Mi, which allows him to control gravitational forces at his will. He can use his devil fruit powers in tandem with his sword, and he has mastered Observation Haki and Armament Haki.

Fujitora’s excellent fighting prowess is seen in his battle against Sabo. He also defeated Jack of the Beast Pirates in a naval battle. So yeah, Fujitora doesn’t allow his blindness to hold him back. His deadly devil fruit powers, excellent Haki control, and mighty physical strength make him a seriously powerful admiral. We can’t wait to see Fujitora back in action as he is the favorite admiral of millions.

6. Ryokugyu

  • Debut: Episode 882, Manga Chapter 905
  • Roles: Admiral
  • Devil Fruit: Mori Mori no Mi (Woods-Woods Fruit)
  • Haki: Armament and Observation Haki

Aramaki who goes by his Marine alias Ryokugyu (Green Bull) is the latest addition to the Admirals in One Piece. He filled in the vacancy of the Admiral position along with Fujitora during the time-skip period. He was introduced as a mysterious character, but we finally got to see his powers in the climax of the Wano Country arc (one of the new best arcs in One Piece). Before we got to see his powers, Doflamingo teased that Ryokugyu and Fujitora are absolutely powerful monsters in the Marines. And well, that proved true in the manga recently.

Ryokugyu consumed the Mori Mori no Mi (Logia-type devil fruit), which allows him to produce, manipulate, and alter his body into a forest-like entity with plants. One Piece fans were right in predicting that Ryokugyu will have plant-based powers, making him one of the strongest admirals in One Piece right now.

He can generate plants from his body as well as suck out the water from any living being. He holds a terrifying devil fruit power and can wield two forms of Haki. In the manga, he was able to defeat King and Queen with ease and was having no trouble against the group of samurais. We hope to see more of Green Bull’s fascinating powers in the anime soon.

7. Kong

  • Debut: One Piece Film: Strong World, Manga Chapter 0
  • Roles: Admiral (former), Fleet Admiral (former), Commander-in-chief (Currently)
  • Devil Fruit: None
  • Haki: Unknown

Kong is implied to be an Admiral before and became the Fleet Admiral during the Garp-Roger era. And now, he has climbed all the way up to the Commander-in-chief position, which is the highest position in the Marines. Kong’s history of authority tells us a lot about the powers he possessed. He has a sturdy muscular physique and numerous scars on his body, suggesting that he used to be one hell of a tough guy in his prime. Now in his new role, he has the highest authority next to the Five Elders.

As we don’t have a complete picture of Kong’s power, we have decided to keep him in the last position. If we see any updates in the future, he can start his journey up on our list as he did in the Marines ranking.

8. Monkey D. Garp (Bonus)

  • Debut: Episode 68, Manga Chapter 92
  • Roles: Vice Admiral and Instructor
  • Devil Fruit: None
  • Haki: Armament, Observation, and Conqueror’s Haki

You are probably wondering why we placed Garp on our list of the strongest Admirals; that too at the final position. The answer is pretty straightforward, and many die-hard One Piece fans must have guessed it beforehand. Garp might easily have been an Admiral or perhaps Fleet Admiral in One Piece by now, but he has taken the decision to decline all advancements offered to him.

Garp clearly despises the Celestial Dragons, therefore, if he becomes an Admiral, he will have to report directly to them. As a result, he rejected all the offers and elected to stay a Vice Admiral until his retirement. Even without a devil fruit power, Garp possesses admiral-level powers or even more based on what we have seen.

Monkey D. Garp is recognized as the “Hero of the Marines” and earned the nickname “Garp the Fist” for his amazing Haki powers. He is one of the strongest Haki users of all time, and he proved why he is one with his “Galaxy Impact” attack in the manga recently. He used to be the rival of the Pirate King himself and was equal to him in terms of power. Roger recognized his might, and he would have topped our list if he was an Admiral right now.

We have ranked these admirals based on their true powers that we have seen until now, so the ranking may change as the story progresses in the manga. In the Egghead arc, One Piece is now heating up as Kizaru heading to clash against Luffy. Hence, we are going to witness the peak of One Piece once again. In the meantime, let us know who is your favorite admiral in the comments below.
