Lenovo-owned Motorola has been on a roll recently. The company recently launched its Edge 50 Pro in India, which gained popularity for being a value-for-money device. However, that was not the end of it as the company has now launched the Edge 50 Ultra in select countries in Europe. Unlike the Edge 50 Pro, the Ultra is a flagship, which, on paper, seems to get a lot of things right. Here’s everything you need to know about the Edge 50 Ultra.

Motorola Egde 50 Ultra: Build and Design

The Edge 50 Ultra boasts a 10-bit 6.7-inch 1.5K pOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate. It seems to be the same display as the Edge 50 Pro with a peak brightness of 2,500 nits, HDR10+ certification, and a touch sampling rate of 360Hz. The display also has DC dimming, covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space, and is calibrated by Pantone. It’s protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus thanks to Motorola’s recent partnership.

The phone looks quite different from the back with the Pantone finishes we’ll get into in a bit. The overall construction is metal and the back has been designed to feel like leather.

Performance and Battery

Performance-wise, the Edge 50 Pro will be the second smartphone in the world to use the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. We’ve compared the same with the vanilla 8 Gen 3 and 8 Gen 2, and the results were quite surprising. TL;DR, the CPU and GPU performance are a bit similar to the 8 Gen 3 but it misses out on a few features, and it’s a better overall SoC compared to the 8 Gen 2. The storage used is UFS 4.0 alongside LPDDR5X RAM.

The battery in the Edge 50 Ultra is a 4,500 mAh cell capable of charging at a whopping 125W, the same as the Edge 50 Pro. Although we wish Motorola bumped it up to 5,000 mAh, the current capacity with that superfast charging should be good.

Cameras, Connectivity, and Software Experience

As for the cameras, the phone features triple-rear cameras. The primary is a 50 MP wide snapper with OIS, the secondary, the second is a 50MP ultrawide, while the third is a 64 MP 72mm telephoto with 3X optical zoom and OIS. The front camera is also a 50 MP unit.

The phone supports 5G, Wi-Fi 7/6E, and Bluetooth 5.4. Besides, the USB Type-C port is a USB 3.1 Gen 2 spec.

The Edge 50 Ultra will come with Hello UI based on Android 14 out of the box and is expected to receive three major Android updates and two years of security patches. The phone is IP68-rated for protection against dust and water.

Edge 50 Ultra Pricing, Color, and Storage Variants

The phone comes in three colors Fuzzy Peach, Forest Grey, and Nordic Wood. The former is a Pantone color which was previously used in the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra. The Motorola Edge Ultra should go on sale in select European countries in the coming weeks for a starting price of €1,000. The phone will also be available in Asia, Oceania, and Latin America soon.
