Huawei has announced a definitive timeline for the roll-out of its next major software update in India. In a press release on Thursday, the company said that the incoming update will hit eight of its smartphones in the country. The update will start rolling out to the Huawei P20 Lite this week, followed by the Mate 20 Pro, Nova 3, Nova 3i and the Y9 (2019) from July 24. The Huawei P30 Lite and Huawei P20 Pro will receive the update in the last phase and the entire process will be completed by August 7.

According to Huawei, EMUI 9.1 will bring improved performance, new wallpapers and icons, GPU Turbo 3.0, EROFS and much more. One of the highlights of the incoming update is the GPU Turbo 3.0 feature that promises to optimize gaming performance while reducing power consumption by 10 percent. Besides reducing touch latency and lowering energy consumption, GPU Turbo reduces frame drops and results in a higher average frame rate, thereby offering a smooth and seamless gaming experience.

As for EROFS (Extendable Read-Only File System), it is said to increase the random read speed by up to 200 percent, and will also save about 2GB of system storage. Another new feature is the AR Measure app, which is a quick measurement tool for simple DIY projects. It allows users to accurately measure length, total area and volume with the HUAWEI TOF Camera. “By utilizing the Face Recognition technology, you can now measure the height of a person with just a simple task of scanning from toe-to-head”, said Huawei.

The update also brings that Dual-View Video feature that uses multiple cameras at once to capture videos, enabling the user to shoot a video from different angles, at once. In addition, there’s also the Huawei Phone Clone that enables users to quickly transfer their contacts, photos, videos and more to their new phone.

As is the case with most FOTA rollouts, it is being randomly pushed out to a limited number of users, and is expected to have a broader rollout in a few days after making sure there are no critical bugs. While users can expect to see the OTA update notification in the next few days, they can also check for it manually from the Settings menu.
