Awesome Technologies That Will Rule 2022

The evolution in the field of technology is faster than ever and as we’re entering the end of another great decade filled with technological innovations, here are some technologies that are expected to rule 2022 and grab most of our attention.

1. 5G

After a bunch of Android OEMs, Apple finally embraced 5G with the launch of the iPhone 12 series in October of 2020. In addition, Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 888 chipset capable of delivering speeds up to 7.5Gbps. We could expect 2022 to be the year where we witness mass adoption of 5G. As the technology becomes more popular, we will see a host of applications that will largely depend on the internet. With mmWave 5G networks, we will be able to access network speeds in the range of gigabits per second, almost a hundred times faster than the current 4G network. With 5G, we will be able to send and receive information in the blink of an eye – literally!

With the massive increase in data speeds, most of the processing could take place at servers. It will also boost the adoption of cloud gaming services such as Google Stadia, GeForce Now, and Microsoft’s Project xCloud. Besides the significant jump in speeds on our mobile devices, we are also likely to witness an increase in the communication between machines, allowing them to make their own decisions, and also augment ours. From smart vending machines, that will recognize you by the face to dispense your favorite candy even before you make a command, to self-driven vehicles, 5G will open doors to a variety of possibilities.

2. Li-Fi

Li-Fi or Light Fidelity is another network protocol that can replace conventional Wi-Fi systems. Instead of using radio waves used by Wi-Fi, Li-Fi uses electromagnetic signals which may or may not be visible to humans, such as ultraviolet, infrared waves beside just visible light. Using LEDs which are dimmed below human visibility, Li-Fi compatible systems offer faster and more reliable connections than the current generation of Wi-Fi routers. The concept of Li-Fi is not new but we expect the technology to really catch up in the coming years, and French research firm Yole Développement predicts an exponential growth starting in 2022.

3. 144Hz Refresh Rate Display

For those who love to play high-octane games on smartphones would already be gushing over the 144Hz refresh rate display. With incredible smoothness and responsiveness, it’s set to make smartphones a great device for gaming. Even if you aren’t much into gaming, you would fall in love with the snappier performance of the screen. While we got 120Hz phones from smartphone giants like OnePlus, Realme, and Samsung last year and saw 144Hz display phones like Asus ROG Phone 3, chances are pretty high that other smartphone vendors will follow suit, thereby making this tech go mainstream in 2022. If you’re planning to get a 144Hz display phone, do not forget to check out our list of 144Hz supported games on the Play Store.
