- Aquaman 2 is all set to hit the theaters on December 22 with some of our favorite characters making a return.
- We will see Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nikole Kidman as Atlanna, and more.
- The role of Amber Heard as Mera is still in a lot of controversy since her screen time is cut down to just 8 minutes.
Back in 2018, Aquaman was released by DC Studios and became the highest-grossing DCEU movie collecting over a billion dollars worldwide. Now, in 2023, DC is planning to bring back the franchise with Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom, which will be released on 22 December. This movie has seen its share of criticism and praise based on its trailer. However, keeping aside the point of how the movie is, Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom does indeed boast a quite talented star cast, well, most of them (if you know, you know). So in this article, let’s talk about the Aquaman 2 cast and characters.
1. Jason Momoa (Aquaman)
Jason Momoa makes a comeback as Arthur Curry, the King of Atlantis in his standalone Aquaman movie after five long years. Earlier, we’ve seen Jason sporting a comic-accurate golden and green costume but this time, his costume has seen some changes.
This new suit is darker and has the ability to camouflage and is probably made out of Atlantian tech based on cephalopods. This brand-new suit does not have any gauntlets or boots like the classic suit contains.
It has been a while since we have seen Aquaman in action after Zack Snyder’s Justice League, so I think it might actually be quite fun to see after so long.
2. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Black Manta)
In the cast of Aquaman 2, Yahya Abdul-Mateen is making a comeback as Black Manta. In the last movie, we did get to see Black Manta as the human nemesis of Aquaman. However, the last movie did not give him much air for us to have a greater look into the character.
In this movie, Black Manta is going to be the main villain so I think we’re going to see a lot more of him as compared to before. This time, even Black Manta is going to sport some superpowers while wielding the black trident so it is going to be quite an exciting experience to see a standoff between Aquaman and Black Manta.
3. Patrick Wilson (Orm)
Patrick Wilson is also making a comeback in the role of Orm. In the last movie, Orm is defeated by Aquaman. After that, Aquaman reclaimed his throne as the King of Atlantis. In this movie, it seems as if Aquaman is going to team up with Orm against Black Manta.
We saw in the trailer for Aquaman 2 that Orm has teamed up with Aquaman to fight against Black Manta. We also see him in a new suit. In the trailer, their chemistry seems interesting and let’s see how it plays out in the movie.
4. Amber Heard (Mera)
Like it or not, Amber Heard is coming back in the Aquaman 2 cast as Mera. Despite the sensational courtroom war between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, she is still a part of Aquaman 2. However, since it was too late to cut her completely out of the movie, her screen time is said to have been cut down significantly. Because of this, we might not get to see a lot of Amber Heard in Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom.
5. Nikole Kidman (Atlanna)
In the latest trailer for Aquaman 2, we saw Atlanna, Arthur’s mom and the former queen of Atlantis making a comeback. In the first Aquaman movie, she was presumed to be dead but was later rescued by Aquaman.
In this movie, we get to see her sporting a white suit and will most probably act as an advisor to Aquaman. As of now, we do not know to what extent her role will influence the story of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
6. Willem Dafoe (Nuidis Vulko)
Willem Dafoe is going to make a return in the role of Nuidis Vulko, the chief scientific advisor for Atlantis and Aquaman’s mentor. In the first movie, Atlanna left Arthur under his wing so he could train Arthur in combat, and with time, Arthur turned into a deadly combatant. In this movie, we might get to see more of him as an advisor to Aquaman and also in combat.
As for other returning and new characters in Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom, we will get to see the following supporting characters and cast members:
- Dolph Lundgren as King Nerus
- Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin
- Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry
- Jani Zhao as Stingray
- Vincent Regan as Atlan
- Indya Moore (Pose) as Karshon
- Pilou Asbæk as King Atlan’s brother (rumored)
So yeah, that’s pretty much all the confirmed cast members and the characters they will play in the Aquaman 2 movie.
Amber Heard will be returning to the role of Mera in Aquaman 2. However, her role has been majorly cut from the movie, and she will only appear for a total of 8 minutes.
Black Manta will be returning as the villain in Aquaman 2, The Lost Kingdom. However, his powers are substantially increased since he wields the black trident now and has superpowers because of it as well.
Jason Momoa is reported to be “done with Aquaman” but might come back to James Gunn’s new DCU in the role of LOBO.
