So the Coronavirus pandemic has forced the world to go into a lockdown mode, and most people are working from home these days, including, yours truly. However, you are not going to be working the entire day, right? And even if you are, there are times when you just want a break. Whatever the reason, if you are looking for some great movies to watch online during the quarantine, here are some options from Netflix and Prime Video that you should check out.
Best Netflix Movies to Stream Right Now
Netflix and chill is quickly turning into quarantine and chill, but the streaming service does have a lot of great movie options that you can take a look at. From old classics to new ones, Netflix has a great mix of a little bit of everything. Here are some movies I would recommend you to check out on Netflix:
1. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before
In times such as these, a feel good rom-com can do a lot to boost your morale, and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is exactly that. It’s a Netflix original movie, and if you haven’t seen it yet, you really should for the perfect combination of love, laughter, and some teenage drama. Its sequel, “To All the Boys PS I Still Love You” is also out now, so you have quite a bit of Lara Jean to follow around.

3. Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark
Chances are you’ve seen this one, but even so, Raiders of the Lost Ark is definitely worth watching many times. The movie stars Harrison Ford (and who doesn’t love his acting) as Indiana Jones, and is definitely one of my all time favorite movies to watch. It follows Indiana Jones as he tries to find the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis. It’s action packed, with some light fun-filled moments thrown in.

4. The Lunchbox
The Lunchbox was our top pick for the best Hindi movies to watch on Netflix, and it’s definitely one you should check out right now. It stars Irrfan Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui and if that hasn’t convinced you to check it out, I don’t know what will. The movie received critical acclaim across the board, so if you’re still not sold on this idea, check out the ratings below.

5. Queen
Queen is one of my favourite bollywood movies. Starring Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao, the movie follows a girl from a conservative Indian family who goes on her honeymoon alone. In her journey, she discovers the world, and herself. It’s a truly wonderful story, and will leave you laughing and crying. Kangana Ranaut outdoes herself with her performance in Queen, and it’s a perfect watch especially in times when we ourselves are stuck inside our houses.

6. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is the road trip that we all want, in countries and places we also all want. It’s a wonderful story of three friends played by Hritik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, and Abhay Deol, who go on a road trip across Spain for a bachelor party. It’s a movie filled with a lot of fun moments, and showcases the bonds of friendship. Plus, I mean, the cast is excellent. This is one movie you can watch many times and not get bored of, and it will certainly break the monotony of this quarantine.

7. Bareilly Ki Barfi
Bareilly Ki Barfi is a story about Bitti, a small town girl played by Kriti Sanon, and how her life changes when she reads a book that hasn’t sold a single copy otherwise, and tries to find its author. In her quest to do so, she meets Ayushmann Khurrana, and Rajkummar Rao. The story unfolds with a lot of funny moments, and some typical bollywood drama, but it’s a fun ride for sure.

8. National Treasure
National Treasure is one of those few movies that merge history and fiction into a thrilling adventure. Starring Nicholas Cage in the lead along with top hollywood-talent including Diane Kruger and Sean Bean, the movie has our heroes trying to unravel clues in order to find a chest of treasures hidden away by George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin.
The movie somehow didn’t score too high with critics, but is definitely an interesting and fun watch.

Evan Almighty is a movie where a news host turned congressman, played by Steve Carell of The Office, is called upon by God (played by, who other than Morgan Freeman) to build Noah’s Ark in preparation for a flood. The movie is hilarious and is guaranteed to leave you laughing by the end.

Guilty is a Netflix original hindi movie that follows how Nanki Dutta (played by Kiara Advani) investigates what really happened when her boyfriend is accused by another girl of sexually assaulting her during a Valentine’s Day party. The movie is one I haven’t seen yet, but if you’re looking to watch something that’s part-thriller, part-suspense and a lot of drama, this might be something to check out.

Kid-Friendly Movies to Stream on Netflix
Most of the movies I mentioned above are not exactly PG-13, and if you have kids at home, watching movies of war and crime might not be the best idea. For that, here are a couple of kid-friendly movies you can stream on Netflix:
13. Ratatouille
Ratatouille is an amazing animated movie from Disney and Pixar which is based on a rat that loves food and cooking. It follows the story of how Remy (the rat) follows his passion of being a chef at a fine dining restaurant against all odds, and is a great movie to watch with your kids.

14. Cars
Cars is yet another movie you can (and probably should) watch with your kids. The movie follows Lightning McQueen, a race-car that gets lost in a town and finds friends, love, and also grows as a race-car by learning some tricks of the trade. It’s a funny movie filled with heart warming moments and is a good watch for a nice family evening.

Another fun kids movie on Netflix, The Good Dinosaur is set in a time where dinosaurs and humans co-exist. It follows a neanderthal human kid and a young dinosaur as they have adventures.

Best Movies to Stream on Prime Video
If you’re more into Prime Video, or just not up for any of the movies above, here are some more movies you can watch while you’re at home:
16. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Quentin Tarantino’s latest movie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is set in 1969’s Los Angeles where Rick, an actor whose career is on the decline and Cliff, his stunt double, try to recapture their fame and success. If you’re into Tarantino’s movies, you should definitely watch this one.

17. Contagion
I’m putting Contagion on this list partly because it has been received pretty well by critics and audiences alike, and partly because it follows a deadly and fast moving epidemic and how the worldwide medical community tries to find a cure and prevent panic. It’s just relatable in these times.

18. Ford v Ferrari
Pairing up Christian Bale and Matt Damon is just the icing on the cake for this movie. Ford v Ferrari is based on the rivalry between, as the name suggests, Ford and Ferrari and shows how Henry Ford II, Carroll Shelby, and Ken Miles built the legendary Ford GT40 in order to beat the Ferrari racing team at the Le Mans.

19. Batman Begins
Who doesn’t love Batman? Even as a Marvel fan myself, I do love Batman movies (even Batman v Superman, don’t @ me). Anyway, Batman Begins is one awesome movie and it’s part of The Dark Knight Trilogy which, frankly, is just the best ever. So watch it, and then watch the other two movies as well. Consider this section a 3-in-1 special, and enjoy.

20. Inception
Yes, I included two Christopher Nolan movies one after another, but Inception is an amazing movie that’s also a mind-bending one. So pay attention as Leonardo DiCaprio enters dreams inside dreams and by the end, if you’re able to figure out whether it’s a dream or reality, god please let me know.

21. The Wolf of Wall Street
Another DiCaprio starrer, The Wolf of Wall Street is a story of a wall street stockbroker who starts his own firm, where he committed fraud and corruption, scamming people to earn money, and how all of it finally came to an end. The movie is definitely not one to watch with kids around, or even your parents, for the most part. But it’s fun, and it’s based on true events.

22. Mission Impossible: Fallout
Fallout is the latest entrant in the hugely popular Mission Impossible franchise of movies starring Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt. Fallout picks up the story two years after the events of Mission Impossible Rogue Nation (which, by the way, is also on Prime Video, so check that out too) as Ethan Hunt must save the day once again along with his team members Benji and Luther.

The movie has won a lot of awards, including nominations at the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice Awards, and Screen Actor’s Guild Awards.

24. Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse
There have been a lot of reboots of the Spiderman movies, but this one is an animated, kind-of reboot of the film which mixes the concept of multiverses into Spiderman — hence the name. The movie is fun, although I personally don’t like the pacing, but it features a great soundtrack as well, including the hit song “familia”.
Rotten Tomatoes: 97%
IMDB: 8.4/10

25. Men in Black
Men in Black is that movie that you should watch for Will Smith, if nothing else. The movie is old, so don’t expect the best special effects, but it’s still very well done. Plus it has aliens, lot of fighting, and a whole lot of funny moments. Plus, once you’re done with this one, you can check out the other 2 movies as well, or the new MIB: International which stars Chris Hemsworth.

26. Mad Max: Fury Road
If you like cars and road-battles, Mad Max: Fury Road brings over the top cars and over the top vehicular warfare. The movie is set in a post apocalyptic world where Max, a drifter and survivor, joins hands with Furiosa in order to overthrow a tyrant who controls the land.

This movie series is based on Newt’s adventures, his fight against Grindelwald (played by Johnny Depp), and also features Albus Dumbledore (played by Jude Law). It’s the perfect way to get back into the wizarding world, and once you’re done, watch ‘The Crimes of Grindelwald’ which is also available on Prime Video.

The multiple Academy Award winning movie ‘Parasite’ is also coming to Prime Video on 27th March, so make sure you watch that as well when it comes out. It’s rated at 99% by Rotten Tomatoes, which is high praise.

28. Angry Birds Movie 2
Based on the popular smartphone game by Rovio, the Angry Birds Movie 2 is full of comedy, and has the bird island fighting alongside the pig island to defeat a common enemy who is threatening to destroy their world. It’s a fun watch, and is a wholesome family entertainer.

29. The Harry Potter Series
Who doesn’t know Harry Potter. It’s probably the biggest thing ever in our times, as far as novels and movie franchises go. The Harry Potter series is a perfect watch for the whole family, it has everything — magic, friendship, love, and of course, it has Alan Rickman, so you know, watch it.

30. Kung Fu Panda
So you like Bruce Lee, or maybe Jackie Chan, or Jet Li, or whatever. Those movies are great, but not exactly kid friendly. Enter Kung Fu Panda, which has, you guessed it, a Panda who does kung fu. It’s a fun-filled story that follows Po (voiced by Jack Black) as he learns kung fu, overcomes his own fears and saves the day. It also features some inspirational quotes, including “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the Present”.
