- WWE filed a 'Vice City' trademark on August 4, 2026, for wrestling and entertainment services.
- The filing doesn't cover video games, making a conflict with Rockstar's GTA 6 very unlikely.
- The timing is weird because GTA 6 is returning the players to Vice City later this year.
Just a few months are left before we hit the streets in GTA 6; however, an unexpected trademark filing for the word ‘Vice City‘ itself has surfaced online. WWE has officially filed a trademark application for Vice City on August 4, 2026, to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
The crucial context here is that the trademark filing is not an attempt to claim ownership of the phrase ‘Vice City’ across every industry. Instead, WWE is seeking trademark protection specifically for Class 041, which covers entertainment services such as wrestling performances, live events, fan clubs, blogs, and sports-related media.
Fortunately for Grand Theft Auto Fans, there is no sign of a legal showdown – at least not yet. So, let’s look forward to the GTA 6 extended look that is coming to Netflix on August 27.
The language of the trademark filing for Vice City has a limited scope, not related to GTA 6, not to any video games. This is what it says on the USPTO site:
“Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment.”
Industry observers believe the application is likely connected to WWE superstar Lola Vice, as spotted by Fightful. Vice is reportedly expected to receive a bigger spotlight after moving beyond WWE’s development brand, NXT.
Since the superstar had her upbringing in Miami, a city associated with the nickname ‘Vice City’, the trademark would help WWE strengthen the branding around her character.
Even so, the coincidence is impossible for fans to ignore. While Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games own trademarks connected to GTA Vice City and related gaming products of GTA 6, they do not have exclusive worldwide ownership over the word ‘Vice City’ in every commercial category.
Adding another amusing twist is the corporate relationship between the two companies. Rockstar Games is owned by Take-Two Interactive, which also owns 2K Games, the publisher of the WWE 2K series. The shared corporate umbrella makes the situation more ironic.
Fans have already found a Netflix glitch that hints at the GTA 6 extended look runtime being 30 minutes. So, we can see that GTA 6’s marketing is entering full swing, and hopefully there will be no more delays any further.
