Rockstar Games surprised fans today with the announcement of GTA 6: An Extended Look, a special presentation that premieres on August 27. The company first plans to stream it on Netflix at 3 PM ET. Later, Rockstar will share it on YouTube and the official GTA 6 website later that evening.
However, GTA 6 fans barely spent time talking about the announcement itself. Instead, they flooded YouTube and X with memes after realizing Rockstar had uploaded what many called “a trailer for a trailer.” Within minutes, Rockstar’s YouTube comments and X replies filled with jokes about the 25-second teaser.
Rockstar’s Teaser for Extended Look Announcement Has Fans Cracking Jokes
One of the most liked comments simply read: “A trailer for a trailer is crazy work Rockstar.” And to be honest, it is not the only time the gaming giant has done it. Rockstar already did it for the announcement of the first trailer and the GTA 6 cover art.
The timing makes Rockstar’s strategy even more interesting. GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, but the studio has barely expanded its marketing since Trailer 2. Aside from new artwork and GTA 6 preorder details, fans have had little to dig into. That’s why an announcement for an Extended Look sparked so many jokes across the community.
“I clicked so fast thinking it was trailer 3,” says a fan expecting a GTA 6 trailer 3 when they click the video. Others poked fun at Rockstar’s unconventional marketing strategy, saying, “Get ready to get ready.”
But as a fan of Grand Theft Auto games and a video games journalist, I would definitely say one thing. Rockstar is the only company in the world that makes trailers for trailers and gets away with it. Of course, in a good way. They made the best video game of all time, Red Dead Redemption 2, after all.

Some fans compared Rockstar’s marketing to “preheating your airfryer” before cooking, while another joked that YouTubers were already preparing “100 Secret Details You Missed” videos about a 25-second clip. Despite all the memes, many players still sounded genuinely excited for what’s coming later this month.
One X user said, “Can’t wait to overanalyze every frame for hidden details again,” while most fans wrote:
“People need to breathe. Can’t rush greatness. This is about to change the entire entertainment industry.”
Some fans even started joking about what comes next, with one asking, “When do cinema tickets go on sale for Trailer 4?” while another pleaded, “Don’t test us, we want gameplay.” Given that the Netflix page of GTA VI clearly mentions it as a movie, we might actually see detailed gameplay. So, who knows, we might finally see the entire GTA 6 map for the first time.
Nevertheless, the jokes may have stolen the spotlight today, but they also show just how much anticipation still surrounds GTA 6. Only Rockstar could post a 25-second GTA 6 announcement trailer for an Extended Look and turn it into one of the biggest talking points among fans.
Now, fans will wait until August 27 to see whether the presentation finally delivers the gameplay and new details they’ve been asking for. Do you think the GTA 6 extended look is separate from a new trailer? Let us know in the comments.
