He’s loud, violent, emotionally stunted, and somehow still weirdly likeable. But for those just jumping into the chaos, here’s a deep dive into who Peacemaker is in the DCU, his origins, powers, and what makes him tick.

Christopher Smith, aka Peacemaker, made his first appearance in Fightin’ 5 #40 (1966), and originally came from Charlton Comics before being folded into the DC Universe. His early comic book version was a straight-laced pacifist who believed in peace at any cost, literally. He was so dedicated to the idea of peace that he was willing to kill for it.

Fast forward to James Gunn’s modern take, and Peacemaker gets a much-needed personality update. In The Suicide Squad (2021), we meet a man who’s not just twisted by his ideology, but completely haunted by his past. His father, Auggie Smith, is a white supremacist and also the villain known as White Dragon, and growing up under that roof made him an emotionally stunted person.

Gunn’s version makes Peacemaker a deeply flawed man-child who hides his trauma behind jokes, muscles, and bullets. And that makes him one of the most unexpectedly layered characters in the DCU.

How Was Peacemaker Introduced in The Suicide Squad?

In The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker is introduced as part of Task Force X, a band of expendable anti-heroes sent on a mission to Corto Maltese. He plays well with others until he doesn’t. The turning point comes when he kills Rick Flag to protect what he believes is the “greater good,” proving that his warped sense of morality is more dangerous than helpful. But that decision haunts him and sets the stage for everything that follows in his standalone show.

What Are Peacemaker’s Powers?

Peacemaker isn’t flying around or shooting lasers out of his eyes. He doesn’t have superpowers in the traditional sense, but he is dangerously skilled. Think of him as a walking tank with a warped moral compass. Talking about his powers, more appropriately, skills, he is an expert marksman, excels in hand-to-hand combat even against super-powered individuals, an expert tactician, boasts peak human condition, and also, is also equipped with high-tech helmets that give him different abilities such as sonic booms and x-ray vision.

Now, we all know that Peacemaker in the DCU isn’t a traditional superhero, but the way John Cena has embodied this character has made everyone fall in love with him. With Peacemaker Season 2 coming out soon, the stakes are at an all-time high with the multiversal aspect and the direct threat from Rick Flag Sr.. So, with that, let’s wait for August 21, 2025, for Peacemaker to blow us away.
