Samsung is rolling out Tizen 3.0 to the Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier as part of what the company calls it’s ‘Value Pack Update’. The new software brings along a ton of interesting features that we are already acquainted with thanks to their presence on the Gear Sport, but are new to the older device. The update weighs in at 258.5MB and is in the process of being rolled out globally. So you can check if it’s available in your region by going over to Settings > About Gear on your Samsung Gear app. In case you’re wondering about all the new features and functions you get from the incoming update, here’s a highlight of what the new software brings to the table:
New UI Features
- ‘Watch Only’ mode that turns Gear S3 into a regular watch with increased battery life.
- Reworked widgets to showcase more information on the display
- New functions for the rotating bezel including, extra options when changing the watchface
- Option to reply to text messages straight from notifications
- Rearrange apps based on recent usage
- Contacts and Calendar – create and edit contacts and events on the watch itself
- View and edit checklists on the Gear S3
- Change frequency of web and video notifications
- Swipe up or down from any screen to access the new Moment Bar
- ‘App Shortcuts’ widget for quick access to up to 4 different apps
- Support for watchface-sharing
New Health and Fitness Features
- Redesigned Samsung Health app
- Health Fitness Program to monitor heart rate in real-time
- Nutrition management feature to maintain daily calorie intake
- ‘Multi-workouts’ widget for quick access to different workouts
Other New Features
- SOS requests now include altitude info for more accurate tracking
- ‘Samsung Connect’ to monitor and manage IoT devices with the Gear S3
- Gear VR controller to control Gear VR with the Gear S3
- PPT controller to manage PowerPoint presentations with the Gear S3
- Support for Bixby Reminder for Galaxy S8, S8+ and Note 8
- Support for customized Ringtones – option to set music saved on the Gear S3 as ringtone
