Season 4’s conclusion was absolutely diabolical, as every fan wanted it to be. Here is a quick recap of The Boys season 4 ending, broken down into major highlights:
Shapeshifter’s Plan to Kill Robert Singer
After the penultimate episode showcased the shapeshifter to be the main orchestrator of the chaos in the finale, their ultimate plan of taking down the president was put to sleep by Starlight. This resulted in enraging Homelander who was already in a furious state.
He threatened the super-abled Victoria Neuman to stick with his new plan otherwise her beloved family would be slaughtered by himself. Thus, this made Victoria jump ship and seek The Boys’ help for the safe space and future she has always wanted in return for helping them kill Homelander and Vought International.
Ryan Kills Grace Mallory and Butcher’s Powers Revealed and
We finally had a great superpower in hand along with the supe-killing virus to put an end to the wicked plans of Homelander. Well then, Butcher butchered our trump card by killing Victoria Neuman with his new tentacle power.
As overwhelmed Ryan ran amok killing his aunt Grace Mallory and choosing his path, so did Butcher who finally has come to terms with Joe Kessler’s version of himself. That is why Butcher killed Victoria and also stole the supe-killing virus from the team for his grand final plans which will be revealed in season 5.
Meanwhile, Ashley Berrett (yes, Ashely’s last name is Berrett, Deep) takes up compound V to avoid herself from being massacred by The Deep. While Ashley’s powers were not revealed completely, she was seen to be growing out of her body briefly. We’re not sure whether Ashley is dead or has survived the Compound V dosage. We’ll get to see more of her in The Boys Season 5 or Gen V Season 2.
Sister Sage’s Plan
Butcher’s unexpected plan of killing Neuman put all the hopeful things we had in ruins. However, it inadvertently helped Sister Sage accomplish what she wanted along with Homelander in the front. Robert Singer had to be arrested as footage of him saying “wanting to kill Victoria” was unveiled to the world.
By perfectly exploiting this chaotic situation, Sage assisted Calhoun in assuming the presidency and made him swear his loyalty to a helpless Homelander. Thus, Homelander’s dream of being the supreme power in his homeland came to fruition, thanks to Sage.
With the president by their side, they successfully imposed martial law where the forces of supes and the military of the US assisted Homelander in apprehending his enemies. As this ultimate game has reached the final level and Butcher betrays the gang, the remnants try to escape in each direction.
However, the aforementioned forces involving Love Sausage (Derek Johns), Cindy (Ess Hödlmoser), Cate (Madelaine Rachel Phillips), and Sam (Asa Germann) from Gen V arrested the Boys members Hughie, Frenchie, Kimiko, and MM while they tried to flee from the country. We will more of these new Supes in Gen V Season 2, which is currently under production.
Only Starlight aka Annie was able to escape with her super powers and it looks like she will play the savior role in the upcoming season. On the other hand, we saw Butcher becoming the lone wolf (not really as he has Kessler completely with him) to kick off the genocide of the supes.
The Boys Season 4 Mid Credit Scene Shows Soldier Boy
As season 4 ended, the creators decided to throw in a surprise as a mid-credits scene. The mid-credit scene finally reveals that Soldier Boy is still alive (kept inside a cryogenic chamber) and he is visited by his son Homelander in the end. The Boys’ Season 5 is about to get even more menacing if these two going to team up again!
