Exceptional Performance Badges
Some Wordle games are more impressive than others. Maybe you somehow got today’s Wordle answer on the first try, or maybe you managed to outsmart the WordleBot. These badges are all about those standout Wordle performances.
- Wordle in 1: As the name reveals, you earn this badge when you solve the day’s Wordle puzzle correctly on your first guess. Since you have no clues to work with before your first attempt, getting the answer immediately takes a fair bit of luck.
- Wordle in 2: This badge is awarded when you solve the puzzle on your second guess. This badge is a little easier to get than the ‘Wordle in 1’ badge if you utilise your first attempt wisely. Your first guess needs to give you enough information to figure out the answer on the next try.
- Beat the Bot: This badge is awarded if you outperform the WordleBot, a software specifically designed to solve Wordle in as few guesses as possible. If you’re aiming for this badge, try our list of best Wordle starting words; they can help you uncover useful letters early and potentially improve your chances of beating the bot.
- Sea of Greens: You earn this badge if you solve a Wordle puzzle without getting any yellow tiles during your attempts. That means your board only contains green and gray tiles before you find the answer.
Streak Milestone Badges
If you’re the kind of Wordle player who refuses to let their streak number drop to zero, these badges are for you. NYT rewards players for maintaining their Wordle streak through a series of milestones. The currently documented Wordle streak badges are:

Keeping a long streak going takes more than just knowing your five-letter words. You should also know the common Wordle mistakes to avoid, as they can help you stay on track and protect your hard-earned streak.
Note that The New York Times only shows the highest streak badge you have reached on the Badge page in the NYT Games app. Your earlier milestones are still a part of your achievement history and can be viewed by opening the badge and scrolling through the carousel.
For example, if you have reached a 100-day streak, you won’t see separate 7, 14, 30, and 60-day badges next to the 100-day badge in the NYT Games app. However, if you tap on the 100-day badge, you can scroll back and see these earlier badges.
Play Milestone Badges
Not interested in streaks? You can still earn badges simply by sticking with Wordle and playing lots of puzzles. Wordle offers badges based on the total number of puzzles you have played, rather than how many days you’ve played consecutively.
The milestones we can currently verify are 1000 Wordles and 1500 Wordles badges. You don’t have to maintain an enormous streak to earn these badges. You don’t need to win every game; you just need to know how to play Wordle, and you’ll be on track to get these badges.
Gameplay Mode Badges
If you’re someone who likes to make an already tricky puzzle a little harder, try to collect the Wordle Hard Mode badge. It is awarded when you complete a Wordle while playing in Hard Mode.
In Wordle Hard Mode, once you uncover any green or yellow letters, you have to use those revealed letters in your subsequent guesses. That makes it harder to experiment with completely new words after you’ve gathered information. So, completing a puzzle in this mode is an achievement in itself that needs to be awarded with a badge.
Special Events Badges
Every now and then, NYT brings out special badges tied to events, celebrations, or limited-time challenges. Wordle’s fifth birthday gave us a recent example. In June 2026, NYT introduced two special Wordle badges: The 5-for-5 Challenge and the 5th Birthday badge.
To earn the 5-for-5 Challenge badge, players had to solve Wordle every day from June 15 through June 19, 2026. The 5th Wordle Birthday badge, meanwhile, required players to solve the puzzle on June 19.
However, remember that these special-event badges are only available during a limited time period, meaning you miss your chance to earn them once the event ends.
How to Check Your Wordle Badges
Now that we have covered all the Wordle badges released so far, it’s time to learn where you can find them. You can check your Wordle badges on both the NYT Games website and the app.
On the NYT Games website, you can only see your most recently earned badges once you complete a puzzle.
On the other hand, the NYT Games app lets you see all the badges you have earned so far. The app also lets you check out the unearned badges you’re on track to get. This is a nice way to see what achievements you can work towards next.
To check your badges in the app, open the NYT Games app and tap on the Me icon at the bottom of your screen. Next, click on the Wordle card and then the ‘View all badges’ option.
You’ll find your Wordle badges in one place, and you can browse through your collection and tap on individual badges to see more details about them.
Tips and Tricks to Unlock Wordle Badges Faster
Now that you know what each badge means and how to earn them, let’s look at a few tricks that can help you unlock them quicker:
Pick a smart starting word: A good opening word can help reveal a lot of useful letters. Badges like ‘Wordle in 2’ and ‘Beat the Bot’ heavily depend on the information you figure out early on. So, instead of picking a random word, go with one that covers common vowels and consonants. Over time, this tiny habit will noticeably improve your odds.
Study the patterns from previous puzzles: Going through past Wordle answers can show you the kind of words the NYT Games team tends to pick. While this won’t tell you today’s answer, it can still help you guess smarter. Once you start noticing patterns, you’ll naturally start avoiding guesses that work rarely, and this awareness will help you across almost every badge on the list.
Furthermore, I would like to remind you that Wordle has now started reusing existing answers, starting in February 2026, so you might want to be a little cautious with scanning past answers. The patterns can be less predictive, so we suggest keeping an eye on unused Wordle words as well.
Give Hard Mode a shot: While playing in Hard Mode, you must use every green and yellow letter in your next guess. This rule limits your options, and you have to think more carefully before locking in a guess. Completing one puzzle this way is enough to earn the Hard Mode badge.
Don’t skip any game: It’s helpful to treat Wordle like a quick daily habit to stay on track and earn more badges. For streak badges, you have to play and win the game every day. However, if you are not actively chasing a streak, playing regularly will still count towards badges like 1000 Wordles and 1500 Wordles over time.
Keep an eye on limited-time events: Special badges, like the ones released for Wordle’s fifth birthday, don’t stick around forever, so it helps to check the NYT Games now and then. Since these events pop up without much warning, keeping an eye out is the only way to not miss them. Once an event ends, the badge becomes impossible to earn.

No, not every NYT game has badges. At the time of writing this, the only games that have badges are Wordle, Connections, Strands, and Spelling Bee. All these games have their own badge system with achievements specific to the respective games.
There are a total of 20 Wordle badges. Out of these, 18 badges are still obtainable, while two badges, the 5-for-5 Challenge and the 5th Birthday badge, are no longer obtainable.
You can earn Wordle badges without an NYT Games subscription. You only need to have an NYT Games account and must be logged in while playing Wordle to save your badges.
Badges exist purely as a fun and simple way to track achievements. They don’t influence your win percentage, guess distribution, or streak count, and they do not affect your position on any Wordle leaderboard.
