- Dynamax Articuno Max Raids run from January 20-27, 2025, requiring 3-4 trainers and 800 Max Particles per successful attempt.
- The best Articuno counters are Gigantamax Charizard, Dynamax Metagross, and Gigantamax Toxtricity.
- Shiny chance is 1-in-20, so use Golden Razz Berries and aim for Excellent curveballs.
Articuno, the legendary Ice and Flying-type Pokemon, is making its Dynamax debut in Pokemon GO’s Legendary Flight event. You can challenge this majestic bird in Max Battles starting January 20, 2025, from 6 PM to 7 PM local time. After the initial hour, Dynamax Articuno will continue appearing at Power Spots alongside Charmander, Beldum, and Scorbunny until January 27, 2025. Want to know everything about it? Pokemon GO Articuno Base Stats
While Articuno looks cool, it’s not exactly a top performer in the current meta in Pokemon GO. In PvE, there are simply better Ice-type attackers like Mamoswine and Glaceon that hit harder. For PvP, it does okay in Ultra League, where it can take on popular picks like Giratina and Venusaur, but struggles in Great League and Master League due to its many weaknesses.

How to Catch Articuno in Pokemon GO
The fight itself isn’t too hard, but you’ll need 3-4 Pokemon GO trainers with decent counters. Make sure everyone brings Pokemon from the counter list above, and you should be fine. Each raid costs 800 Max Particles, but remember, you only pay if you win.
After beating Articuno, here’s what CP to expect:
- Regular encounter: 1,665 – 1,743 CP (Level 20)
- Weather boosted (Snowy/Windy): 2,082 – 2,179 CP (Level 25)
For catching, here’s what works best for Dynamax Articuno in Pokemon GO. For starters, always use Golden Razz Berries to get the maximum chance of catching it. If you’re low on Golden ones, Silver Pinap Berries work, too, but aren’t quite as good.
Wait for Articuno to finish its attack animation for the perfect timing. Aim for excellent curveball throws, as the catch circle is pretty big. Be patient, as Articuno has a 2% base catch rate so that it might take a few tries.
Can Articuno Be Shiny?
Yes, you can get a shiny Articuno! The odds are pretty good at about 1-in-20 (5%). When you get to the catch screen, you’ll know it’s shiny immediately. This is because shiny Articuno is a lighter, more noticeable blue color. The shiny version looks nice but isn’t drastically different from the regular one.
Try to raid with a group of four trainers for the best results. Three is possible, but we might be cutting it close unless everyone has really strong counters. Make sure to stock up on Max Particles beforehand, and don’t forget those Golden Razz Berries for catching.
