OxygenOS 15: Expected Features and Release Date

In Short
  • Lockscreen customizations could be the main highlight of the OxygenOS 15 update.
  • The new version is also expected to bring UI, quick settings, and dynamic pill improvements.
  • OxygenOS 15 will be released later this year starting with the OnePlus 12.

OxygenOS has come a long way since its second inception from offering a completely unique experience to now, something that’s, to some extent, indistinguishable from OPPO’s ColorOS. The Android 14-based OxygenOS 14 brought many useful features and design changes with the Aquamorphic Design, so what can you expect from the OxygenOS 15 update? Here’s everything that OnePlus could bring to OxygenOS 15 when it releases.

OxygenOS 15: Potential Release Date

The Android 14-based OxygenOS 14 was released back in November last year due to Google delaying the Android 14 update to October. OxygenOS 13 was also released in November 2022. Hence, considering that OnePlus takes around a month to release the next stable OxygenOS update, and Android 15 is released on August 13 at the Made By Google event, the stable OxygenOS 15 update should arrive in October this year.

OxygenOS 15: Supported Devices

If all goes according to plan, the OnePlus 12, 12R, Open and Nord 4 should be the first devices to receive the update, followed by older models in late 2024 or early 2025. Here’s the full list of OnePlus devices we expect will receive the upcoming OxygenOS 15 update:

  • OnePlus 12 (4 updates remaining)
  • OnePlus Open (3 updates remaining)
  • OnePlus Nord 4 (4 updates remaining)
  • OnePlus 12R (3 updates remaining)
  • OnePlus 11 (3 updates remaining)
  • OnePlus 11R (2 updates remaining)
  • OnePlus Nord CE 4 (2 updates remaining)
  • OnePlus 10 Pro (1 update remaining)
  • OnePlus 10T (1 update remaining)
  • OnePlus 10R (1 update remaining)
  • OnePlus Nord 3 (1 update remaining)
  • OnePlus Nord CE 3 (1 update remaining)
  • OnePlus Nord CE 3 Lite (1 update remaining)
  • OnePlus Pad (3 updates remaining)
  • OnePlus Pad 2 (3 updates remaining)
  • OnePlus Pad Go (1 update remaining)

Based on this list, we can expect OxygenOS 15 to be the last major update for the OnePlus 10 Pro/10T/10R, Nord 3, Nord CE 3/3 Lite, and OnePlus Pad Go.

OxygenOS 15: Expected Features

1. New Lock Screen Customizations

The overall theme of recent software releases has been customization, particularly lock screen customizations. With Apple introducing ways to add widgets and change the clock styles on the lock screen, followed by Samsung, Xiaomi, and other Android manufacturers, OnePlus may hop on the train and offer lock screen customizations.

These include a set of fresh new lock screen wallpapers like iOS with depth effect. The other big addition could be the ability to customize the lock screen clock and the overall color scheme. It could also let you add different effects atop your lock screen wallpaper like the Nothing OS.

2. Quick Settings Changes

Quick Settings AKA the Control Centre on Oxygen OS 14 recently received much-needed design changes via an interim update, and it looks like that’s not the end of the road. OnePlus may let you choose between different styles of quick settings panels.

We don’t know much about this change, but if we had to guess, it might let you choose between seeing more tiles over notifications as soon as you pull down or keep it as is.

3. Revamped Device Info Page

OnePlus Nord 4 Software

The least interesting change of the bunch is the revamped software info page. Unlike the current “About device” design that shows you the software version info in plain and off-centered OnePlus Sans font, the new software update page is a bit more charismatic and neat with the version number and a neat curvy line wrapped around an opaque card.

4. Dynamic Pill Improvements

OxygenOS 14 introduced iOS-like Dynamic Island and OnePlus has called it many names Fluid Cloud, Dynamic Pill, etc. It worked with internal system apps and only recently started working with Spotify.

OnePlus might expand its functionality to more apps in Android 15, including apps such as Uber, food delivery apps, and other music streaming apps, including many other system apps.

5. App Archiving

App archiving is not exactly an OxygenOS 15 thing, but rather an Android 15 thing. Google rolled out App Archiving to all supported Pixels with Android 15 Beta 1 update and since manufacturers like Nothing already have it in place, it’s safe to assume that the feature is not Pixel-exclusive.

App Archiving

For those unaware, App Archiving helps you get rid of the apps you don’t actively use without completely getting rid of their data. The feature uninstalls the base app’s files while retaining the data and can be reinstalled from the home page.

6. Android 15-Specific Features

OxygenOS 15 will be based on Android 15 so we have to consider the non-Pixel exclusive additions coming to almost all Android devices eligible for Android 15, regardless of their manufacturer. Now, we’ve covered in detail all the new features coming to Android in our comprehensive Android 15 features guide, but here are a few notable ones:

  • Notification cooldown
  • Split Screen app pairs
  • New Health Connect features
  • Theft Detection in Find My Device

We made a list of features OnePlus should add to OxygenOS 15 and so far, the upcoming update is turning out to be a pretty decent one. And of course, get a lot of AI shenanigans and hopefully lock screen widgets, but we don’t have enough evidence of the existence of the same. This list will be updated with all the new features as soon as the first release of the version drops.

What are your thoughts on upcoming OxygenOS 15 features? What improvements would you like to see besides the aforementioned features? Let us know in the comments.
