Oppo R17 Is the First Snapdragon 670 Phone, and Has Gorilla Glass 6

Oppo has unveiled the company’s latest smartphone, the R17, which flaunts a unique drop-shaped notch design and comes with a lot of firsts. The R17 is the first smartphone to come equipped with the recently announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 SoC which features a new core architecture and brings a host of AI features to the table.

The R17 also holds the distinction of being the first smartphone to feature the Corning Gorilla Glass 6, which is claimed to be significantly more durable than previous iterations of the Gorilla Glass, and also boasts of superior optical clarity, touch sensitivity and scratch resistance among other advantages.

As far as specs go, the R17 packs a 6.4-inch Full HD+ display with a unique notch design and a 19:9 aspect ratio with super thin bezels around it, giving it an impressive screen-to-body ration of 91.5%. The device features an under-display fingerprint sensor which is claimed to unlock the device in just 0.41 seconds. There is a 25MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture which boasts of functionalities such as 3D portrait, facial recognition and a host of AI features.

On the rear side, the Oppo R17 features a vertically stacked 16MP + 5MP dual rear camera set-up. Under the hood, the device packs the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 SoC, coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128 gigs of internal storage. The dual-SIM device boots  ColorOS 5.2 based on Android Oreo and packs a 3,500mAh battery which supports the VOOC fast charging technology.

As per the R17’s listing on the official Oppo website, the device will be available in Streamer Blue and Neon Purple color options, however, details about its pricing are known yet. The new Oppo smartphone is already up for pre-order and will go on sale starting August 18th, 2018 in China, however, details about the R17’s availability in the international market have not been officially announced.
