After a complete reveal by The Verge which left nothing to the imagination, Oppo has finally launched the much-awaited Find X smartphone at an event in Paris. The flagship device takes a different approach to achieve a bezel-less look and gives it a unique spin of its own by employing a motorized panel which houses the front and rear cameras that pops up automatically when needed.

The Find X flaunts a ‘Panoramic Arc Screen’ with almost no bezels on either side of the display, not even at the top to accommodate the proximity or ambient light sensors, as they are all located on the slide-out tray which houses the camera lens, the ambient and proximity sensors as well as the facial recognition module. As far as design goes, the device features a dual-glass design with curved edges and a metallic frame surrounding the 6.42-inch Full HD+ display (2340×1080 pixels) display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, with an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 93.8%.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage to go with it. Coming to the smartphone’s signature feature, the Find X features an AI-assisted dual rear camera set-up comprising of a primary 16-megapixel f/2.0 sensor, and a 20-megapixel f/2.2 secondary sensor, both of which are covered by a motorized slide-out panel.

The 25-megapixel front camera is also an AI-assisted sensor which comes with features such as 3D emojis (3D Omoji in Oppo’s lingo), selfie beautification, etc. As for authentication, the Find X features a facial recognition system dubbed ‘O-Face Recognition’, which utilizes 3D Structured Light Technology and utilizes a 15,000 facial dot recognition mechanism which is claimed to deliver 20-times higher accuracy than fingerprint sensors.

The Find X boots Color OS 5.1 UI based on Android 8.1 Oreo and packs a 3,730mAh battery with support for Super VOOC fast charging technology, which is claimed to provide two hours of talk time with just 5 minutes of charging, and can fully juice up the battery from 0-100% in just 35 minutes. The dual SIM device ditches the 3.5mm jack and features a USB Type-C port.
