- Kojima Productions hasn't yet revealed the release date of the horror game OD.
- Hunter Schafer, Udo Kier, and Sophia Lillis are the main stars of OD.
- OD is an anthology horror game that explores a variety of psychological horror themes.
Hideo Kojima, the visionary behind Death Stranding and the Metal Gear Franchise, never got to fulfill his dream of making a distinct horror game. Now, he has teamed up with Jordan Peele and Xbox Game Studios to deliver OD, a horror game unlike anything the world has ever seen before. If you are gearing up to experience the spiritual successor to P.T., here is everything we know so far about Kojima’s OD game, including its release window, cast, and gameplay.
What Is the Release Date for OD Knock?

Unfortunately, Hideo Kojima hasn’t yet disclosed OD‘s release date. OD’s production was delayed several times due to the 2024 SAG-AFTRA video game strike and Udo Kier’s sudden passing in 2025. Therefore, the contemporary horror title is still in development at Kojima Productions, with filming resumed in June 2026.
Hideo Kojima revealed OD to the world at The Game Awards 2023 event, and the game still doesn’t have a release window. However, we speculate that OD Knock will arrive sometime in either late 2027 or early 2028. Since we are slowly getting more new details about OD, we can expect Kojima Productions to announce the OD release date soon.
What Is the Plot of OD Knock?

The core plot of OD remains under wraps, and Kojima continues to tease the numerous psychological horror experiences you are guaranteed in the game through various teasers. In case you didn’t know, OD is claimed to be an anthology horror game. Different directors (including Kojima and Jordan Peele) will handle the various chapters in the game.
Each segment of the story is expected to be based on a certain fear. For example, the latest OD Knock teaser featuring Sophia Lillis was rooted in the ‘fear of the knock.’ The primary goal of Kojima in OD is to let players overdose on fear. So, we can expect every chapter to focus on a unique case of horror.
Who Are the Actors in OD Knock?
Hideo Kojima is a cinephile at heart; he always casts popular Hollywood actors in his video games, as is the case with OD. The cast of his previous game, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, included Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, Guillermo del Toro, and George Miller, along with plenty of celebrity cameos. Thus, the current cast of the horror game OD is as follows:
- Hunter Schafer
- Sophia Lillis
- Udo Kier
Due to Udo Kier’s untimely passing, the veteran actor has a posthumous appearance in OD. Kojima remarked that Udo Kier wasn’t able to complete his motion capture footage and voice recordings. However, the studio has a complete scan of the actor. Kojima Productions refused to share any comment on whether Udo Kier’s role will be replaced at the time of writing.
Is There a Teaser or Trailer for OD?
Hideo Kojima’s OD was announced at The Game Awards 2023, along with a creepy teaser starring Hunter Schafer, Sophia Lillis, and Udo Kier. Following the announcement teaser, a brand-new teaser titled ‘OD – Knock’ featuring Sophia Lillis was released during Kojima Productions’ 10th Anniversary event last, which you can view below:
In the latest OD teaser, Sophia Lillis is unwillingly performing a sinister ritual before she gets interrupted by a terrifying entity. The entire sequence looked eerily realistic as OD is being developed using Unreal Engine 5. Kojima couldn’t use the Decima engine used in the Death Stranding games, as Sony Interactive Entertainment owns it.
What is the Gameplay Like in OD Knock?

Hideo Kojima’s OD is confirmed to be a first-person psychological horror game. Now, Kojima Productions hasn’t released any gameplay trailer for OD yet. But the latest OD first look and the knock teaser give us an idea of what OD gameplay will be. Remember P.T.? The playable teaser created by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro for the Silent Hills game that was later cancelled by Konami.
OD now seems like the spiritual successor to the unreleased Silent Hill game. Similar to the P.T. demo, the OD stars can be seen traversing claustrophobic hallways, stalked by a mysterious entity. So don’t expect high-octane combat like in Resident Evil games here. Instead, OD’s gameplay is speculated to revolve around investigating and solving environmental puzzles. Earlier, Kojima also noted that they will be utilizing Xbox cloud gaming technology to make OD a very unique and immersive game.
Since every chapter of OD is set to deliver a distinct horror experience, the gameplay will likely evolve depending on the scenario players find themselves in. Kojima recently mentioned a new gameplay system in OD, designed to help scared players make their way through the game.
He couldn’t share many details about the gameplay at the moment, but we can look forward to more gameplay reveals during the major video game events in the future. That said, are you excited for Hideo Kojima’s OD game? Let us know in the comments below.
