However, it is already confirmed that GTA 6 has two playable protagonists: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. The official description on Amazon Brazil claims, “Switch between Jason and Lucia during the story and participate in missions as a duo.” And “Two playable protagonists (Jason and Lucia) with co-op mission mechanics” is mentioned on the KaBuM! platform.

These descriptions essentially mean that the fan-favorite character-switch mechanic introduced in the fifth installment will return in GTA 6. The official GTA 6 gameplay description on Amazon Brazil hints that players can freely switch between Jason and Lucia whenever they want while exploring the various GTA 6 locations in the open world. This should work similarly to how players switched between Michael De Santa, Trevor, and Franklin in GTA 5.

However, when players engage in RDR 2-like story missions in GTA 6, they play as the Jason and Lucia duo. It seems like the criminal couple can’t be separated in heist missions, and the game apparently has co-op mechanics. So, players are expected to control the two protagonists at the same time in certain scenarios, and character switching may also automatically happen during scripted action set pieces in GTA 6.

How Do You Switch Between Jason and Lucia in GTA 6?

Once again, Rockstar hasn’t revealed any details about the character-switch mechanic in GTA 6. But if we had to make an educated guess, it would likely be the same character-switching experience in GTA 5. Therefore, to switch your character in GTA 6, while pressing the down D-Pad button, flick your right analog stick to select the character you want in the character wheel that appears on the bottom-right side of your screen.

After getting released from prison, Lucia aims to create a beautiful life together with Jason.

Lucia’s Playstyle Explained: As Lucia’s character bio hints at, it is likely that Lucia will be a melee-focused character. So, players are speculated to engage in hand-to-hand combat scenarios as Lucia during heist missions or free roam. Lucia may also have a melee-based skill tree, allowing the hero to become stronger as the story progresses.

On the other hand, Jason Duval is confirmed to be a former soldier. After a rough childhood, he enlisted in the military to forget his past. However, he couldn’t leave his past behind and became a drug dealer following his military stint. After coming across Lucia in his life, Jason aspires to have a peaceful life that he never had.
