How to Prepare for Blood Hunt Mode in Marvel Rivals

The Marvel Rivals Blood Hunt mode features a surprising amount of character and gear progression. This means that you’ll have to prepare for every match by fine-tuning your kit and assigned abilities – just as you would tweak your build in a looter-shooter RPG. These essential systems are all located in one place, and you can learn more about them below.

Preparing Hero Gear

There are six playable heroes in Marvel Rivals Blood Hunt: The Punisher, Squirrel Girl, Thor, Moon Knight, Jeff the Land Shark, and Blade. Every playable hero in the mode has four gear slots. These include Weapon, Armor, Accessory, and Exclusive. Gear is dropped by regular enemies and bosses in every single match, and they come in five different rarities. Here’s a look at the effect of every gear piece on your character:

  • Weapon: Damage output increase
  • Armor: Health and damage resistance increase
  • Accessory: Earn bonus effects such as Critical Rate and Block Rate
  • Exclusive: Character-specific gear that enhances the strength of their abilities

Assigning Hero Trait Points

After your gear is in place, you can switch over to the Traits section, which is basically a dedicated skill tree for the Marvel Rivals Blood Hunt mode. You’ll earn Trait points by playing matches and leveling up. These can be used to purchase three different kinds of Traits. The first section is General Traits that enhance the hero’s base attributes, while the other two improve the damage of their signature abilities.

For instance, Blade has dedicated Trait trees for the Purging Bladedance and the Silver Soulbreaker. Similarly, the Punisher’s Trait trees improve his primary abilities, and the same applies to all six usable characters.

Arcane Realm Level Ups

Next to the Traits tab are two dedicated menus for Arcana. These are more powerful bonuses that can greatly increase your character’s health, damage, and critical rate, and more. You’ll earn Arcana points at a much slower rate than Trait points. Additionally, these upgrades are split into four different scrolls that are tied to various difficulty settings. Here’s an overview of each Arcana Realm scroll:

  • Scroll of Conquest (Normal Difficulty): Increases total output boost
  • Scroll of Immortality (Normal Difficulty): Increases health
  • Scroll of Blessing (Clear Nightmare Difficulty 70): TBC
  • Scroll of Midas (Clear Nightmare Difficulty 70): TBC

As the Blood Hunt mode has just landed in Marvel Rivals, we’re still playing through it and inching closer towards Nightmare difficulty. We’ll be sure to update this section with the exact upgrades as soon as we unlock them.

Scrap and Forge Hero Gear

The last bit of preparation that you’ll need to do can be found in the Forge menu in Marvel Rivals Blood Hunt mode. Here, you’ll be able to scrap collected gear and smelt them into Uru Shards. These Shards can then be used to craft new items for the hero and gear slot of your choosing. For example, you can smelt Blade’s sword and craft a more powerful Ankh for Moon Knight.

The quality of the item can be higher if your character has reached certain level thresholds. If your Jeff the Land Shark is sitting at level 32, you’ll have a better chance of acquiring Epic or Legendary gear. Keep in mind that this system relies on RNG, and you can always check the odds by clicking on the information icon.

How to Unlock and Defeat Hidden Kingpin Boss in Marvel Rivals

The Marvel Rivals Blood Hunt mode has four unique bosses, including a hidden Kingpin boss that can be tricky to unlock. While your first boss encounter is bound to be Capwolf, you’ll unlock the other three by increasing your difficulty level.

Difficulty Levels and Unlocking Kingpin

Right before jumping into a Marvel Rivals Blood Hunt match, you’ll be able to pick between three difficulty levels. However, there’s also a hidden “Nightmare” difficulty that only unlocks after you’ve beaten the other three. Here’s a look at every option and the bosses you can expect to face:

  • Normal Difficulty: Capwolf
  • Hard Difficulty: Capwolf, Ratatoskr
  • Extreme Difficulty: Capwolf, Ratatoskr, Dracula, Kingpin (If challenges are completed)
  • Nightmare Difficulty: Capwolf, Ratatoskr, Dracula, Kingpin
  • Bridge barrier in Marvel Rivals Blood Hunt
  • Ruins area in Marvel Rivals Blood Hunt
  • Destroying Blood Crystal in Marvel Rivals Blood Hunt

As you can see, the Marvel Rivals Blood Hunt PvE mode turns into a gauntlet of sorts once you unlock the Extreme difficulty. But while the first three bosses pop up on their own, Kingpin will only appear if you follow a set of instructions. Here’s how you can unlock Kingpin in Marvel Rivals Blood Hunt:

PhaseTaskTime Limit
Phase 4 (Bridge)Destroy the dome-shaped barrier at the end of the Bridge90 seconds
Phase 7 (Ruins)Find and destroy red flower-like Bloodclot BudsNo Time Limit
Phase 12 (Entrance of Dracula’s Castle)Destroy Blood Crystals in the surrounding area to stop the magic circle. 120 seconds

How to Defeat Kingpin in Marvel Rivals Blood Hunt

Kingpin, who recently made his first Marvel Rivals appearance in the Lower Manhattan map, is the final villain of the Blood Hunt mode. True to his stature, the boss is pretty tanky and requires consistent damage to be defeated. He doesn’t have the most expansive movelist, but you’ll want to keep an eye out for his Cane strike, which can immobilize you briefly. And his AoE explosion leap, which can dish out devastating damage.

Keep your distance and fire away at his hitbox. There are no gimmicks tied to the boss fight, so this is the only way to defeat Kingpin in Marvel Rivals Blood Hunt.

All Marvel Rivals Blood Hunt Mode Bosses and Enemy Types

As mentioned earlier, the Blood Hunt mode features four different bosses, but the list of fodder enemies is significantly longer. If you want to know what you’ll be up against, here’s a list of all bosses and enemy types in the Marvel Rivals PvE mode:
