It’s been a while since NetEase Games added a new map to Marvel Rivals. Thankfully, the devs have finally introduced Thebes, a brand-new convoy map in Season 9, inspired by ancient Egyptian aesthetics. So, if you are eager to dive into the Temple of Anubis, check out our complete Marvel Rivals Thebes map guide here, featuring the best chokepoints, team comps, tips, and tricks to win every match.

Marvel Rivals Thebes Convoy Map Explained

As you may have already noticed, Marvel Rivals Season 9 is themed around ancient Egypt, as the new storyline follows the heroes arriving in a collapsed timeline to investigate Apocalypse’s death. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the new Marvel Rivals Thebes map is based on ancient Egyptian architecture while also blending retro-futuristic technology.

So, it’s now Marvel Rivals players’ turn to explore a map inspired by Egyptian aesthetics, much like how CS2 fans enjoyed Anubis and Overwatch fans fought on Temple of Anubis. As teased in the Marvel Rivals Season 9 roadmap, Thebes features a hybrid layout. So, you will begin pushing your payload in small open spaces, but as you make your way, you will find yourself in constricted corridors of ancient tombs.

Since the Marvel Rivals Thebes map is a Convoy objective map, the attacking team is tasked with escorting the Faith-Harvesting Engine to the Temple of Khonshu while the defenders’ mission is to stop the payload as usual. You can also make a stop to see Apocalypse’s dead body in a Sarcophagus, as revealed in the Marvel Rivals Death of Apocalypse event.

Best Choke Points in Marvel Rivals Thebes Map

Multiple choke points in the Marvel Rivals Thebes map will decide the course of the match. In a way, the new Thebes map is very reminiscent of the Arakko map. Therefore, Thebes favors the flanking heroes based on our experience with the map so far.

Additionally, when it comes to the tight spaces, brawler tanks come out on top on this map. We have highlighted the paths the flankers (red arrow) and the brawlers (green arrow) can take in each chokepoint on the Thebes map.

Apocalypse’s Pyramid Entrance

  • Chokepoint Before Apocalypse's Pyramid in Marvel Rivals
  • Chokepoint Inside Apocalypse's Pyramid in Marvel Rivals Thebes Map

As soon as the door opens, hell begins raining down on the Marvel Rivals Thebes map. The first chokepoint in the starting area is an open space which will lead straight to the entrance of Apocalypse’s Pyramid.

And the second is right outside the entrance of Apocalypse’s pyramid, as you might have guessed. So, gear up for intense close-quarter combat right off the bat that will continue until you reach the pyramid’s entrance.

Attackers

  • Brawler tanks like Emma Frost, The Thing, or a hybrid tank like Devil Dinosaur can lead the way in the first and second corner.
  • To support the tanks, duelists like Hela, The Punisher, or Phoenix can deal heavy damage from behind.
  • Alternatively, dive heroes like Psylocke, Magik, and Black Widow can take flanking paths to trouble the enemy backline.
  • It is incredibly difficult to push beyond the initial tight corners. So, if you get stuck trying to push the payload, then it may be game over for you.

Defenders

  • Vanguards like Peni Parker can set up mines, which makes it difficult for the attacking team.
  • And Doctor Strange can protect the teammates with his shield and force the attackers back.
  • In order for the Tanks and Duelists to hold off the attacking team, they need the best heals from their Strategists in both early choke points.

Inside Apocalypse’s Pyramid

  • Chokepoint 1 Inside Apocalypse's Pyramid in Marvel Rivals Thebes Map
  • Chokepoint 2 Inside Apocalypse's Pyramid in Marvel Rivals Thebes Map

Once you get inside Apocalypse’s Pyramid, this is where the real fun begins. Besides the main lane, there are many alternative routes overlooking this chokepoint which you can take advantage of.

Attackers

  • So, brawler Vanguards can remain close to the objective and tackle the enemy frontline on the Marvel Rivals Thebes map.
  • On the other hand, if you have aerial heroes such as Iron Man, Human Torch, or Ultron on your team, it’s their moment to shine.
  • Take advantage of the elevated locations and continue applying pressure on the enemy team, either using Iron Man’s Repulsor Blasts or Punisher’s Turret.
  • Pushing your payload through this abrupt turn is relatively easier than crossing the previous chokepoint if you play your cards right.
  • So, the flanking/flying heroes need to step up and carry the entire team here.

Defenders

  • Things get a bit difficult for the defending team here in the chokepoints inside Apocalypse’s pyramid.
  • Similar to the attacking team’s flankers, the defending team can also send flankers such as Psylocke, Venom, and Spider-Man in alternative routes to catch the attacking team’s backline off guard.
  • If the flankers are being cornered, then feel free to escape through the new slide route, which also has bonus health packs.
  • But it is entirely up to the tanks to hold off the payload. If they fail, then the team fails together in these chokepoints

Temple of Khonshu

  • Temple of Khonshu chokepoint 1 in Marvel Rivals Thebes Map
  • Temple of Khonshu chokepoint 2 in Marvel Rivals Thebes Map

The final chokepoints of the Marvel Rivals Thebes map are right at the entrance of Khonshu’s temple. Remember the Budokan chokepoint in the Tokyo 2099: Shin-Shibuya map? On the same note, you need to put up a great fight before you can complete pushing the payload to the final location.

Attackers

  • Heroes are bound to get crammed into the tight space in the straight doorway. So, it is time for hand-to-hand combat once again.
  • Although Moon Knight was nerfed in the recent patch, he surprisingly turned out to be a good pick, especially to take control of this chokepoint.
  • The Moon Knight on my team timed his ultimate ability and successfully created the much-needed space for the tanks to push forward.
  • Alternatively, some nice flanker routes (the windows and doors) directly lead you to the enemy’s backline. So, if you cannot attack straight, let your dive do the job for you.

Defenders

  • Healers like Jubilee, Invisible Woman, etc. also have a bigger role to play at this chokepoint.
  • With both teams going berserk for the final push, this will ultimately come down to which team’s healers can outperform the other.
  • The defending team has a slight advantage; the healers can take cover behind the structures and continue healing their Tanks and Duelists.
  • But be aware of the flankers who are out on the hunt.
  • Therefore, healers need to step up their game to back their teammates.

Now that you have learned about the various chokepoints in the new map, here are some of the best tips and tricks to help you secure victory every game on the Marvel Rivals Thebes map:

Flank and Poke

  • As I mentioned earlier, Thebes has a very similar design to the Arakko map. So, it’s time for flankers and poke heroes to rise.
  • Marvel Rivals characters like Venom, Black Panther, Psylocke, Hela, The Punisher, etc are the right picks for this map.
  • Flankers can take alternate routes to constantly pressure the enemy backline, whereas the pokers can hit hard from behind their tanks.
  • The enemy team will be overwhelmed on both sides, making it easier for everyone to secure kills this way.

Opt for Brawler Tanks

  • Make sure to pick brawler tanks such as The Thing, Emma Frost, or Hulk, as they excel at close-quarters combat.
  • There are many chokepoints in the Thebes map, and having a brawler tank on your team is the wise decision.
  • Thus, brawler tanks can easily wipe out the front line with their combos and pave the way forward in dire times.

Take the High Ground

  • If you observe closely, you will notice that Thebes features an unusually large amount of high ground in the Thebes map.
  • So, take advantage of these elevated positions by playing characters like Iron Man, Ultron, Phoenix, etc., in case your flankers are struggling.

Don’t Always Stick to the Main Lane

  • While staying close to the payload with your teammates and simply following the main lane seems like a safe idea, it won’t always work out in the end.
  • Thebes is a map with many flank routes and elevated positions.
  • So, let the healers or tank stay on the objective, while aerial heroes and flankers can take their respective paths to keep surprising the enemy team.

Don’t Be Afraid to Switch Heroes

  • Although this is a very common tip, many players often forget it. If your usual strategy with your favorite hero like Cyclops isn’t working, then feel free to switch to another character.
  • A wide variety of heroes are perfect for the Thebes map. So, if you keep failing to push/stop the objective, don’t be afraid to experiment.
