Facebook’s recent growth has been due to the platform implementing videos. While videos on Facebook was certainly a great addition, not everyone liked the autoplaying videos. However, anyone who did not have a limited data plan, did not really get affected by the autoplaying videos, because they played in muted form in the News Feed. However, that’s changing, with Facebook just announcing that autoplaying videos will now play with sound. So, when you scroll through your News Feed on Facebook, videos will autoplay with sound and if you scroll past it, the sound will fade away.
Facebook also announced other updates to videos on its platform, like vertical videos playing in full screen, new thumbnail based progress bar, etc. Also, the company announced its new Facebook Video app for Amazon Fire TV, Samsung Smart TV and Apple TV.
While all the new updates are great, the autoplaying video sound isn’t something that I’m a fan of and if you feel the same, here are the steps to disable Facebook autoplay video sound:
Note: The autoplay sound feature is rolling out to users, so you might not see the options to disable it yet. Also, if your phone is muted, the Facebook won’t override the system settings and the videos will play without sound.

2. Then, tap on the “Sounds” option and disable the “Videos in News Feed Start With Sound” toggle. After you have done this, the autoplaying videos in Facebook will not play with sound.
Turn Off Facebook Autoplay Sound in Android
If you are using an Android smartphone, here are the steps to turn off automatic sound in News Feed videos:
1. Open the Facebook app and go to the last tab (with the hamburger menu icon). Here, scroll down below and tap on “App Settings“.
2. You can then disable the toggle that says “Videos in News Feed Start With Sound“. That’s it, this will stop autoplay video sound in the Facebook Android app.
As of now, the autoplay sound feature is only rolling out to the Facebook app on Android and iOS but we’ll update the article with a method for the web version, when the feature arrives on it.
